If it weren't for how close this Goodwill is to my home and how convenient it is for donating, I'd give it one star. For a thrift store, the pricing is consistently disappointing. I regularly see items priced higher than what they originally sold for new, which completely defeats the purpose of shopping secondhand. It feels more like a clearance rack with inflated prices than a true thrift experience. Selection is another issue. I rarely find anything worth purchasing, and when I do spot something with potential, the price usually kills the deal. read more

This one is in a strip mall on North side of Ford Rd. We stopped in on the way back to the airport from Ann Arbor. It's on the smaller side but the prices were fair. They had some interesting things at the front entrance like the Michigan pillow (see photo). They did have a bathroom in the back as well. Some reviews said the staff was rude but they were just fine for us. We did make some decent finds. Not spectacular but good. read more

There are so many shopping options on Ford Road in Canton. Do not overlook the hidden treasures that await you here at this Goodwill store in Canton! It is easy to find in a shopping plaza with other businesses and directly across the street from Buffalo Wild Wings. The selection of clothing and media are excellent here. This is a great place to support local business and we can assist them with changing lives through job creation. The employees are very welcoming. They have gone bag less so bring your own recycle shopping bags or purchase one of the jazzy black Goodwill bags for carrying out your purchases. The bag says, 'I (red heart) Goodwill!' It is less than two dollars and great value for return thrift shopping. My only problem with this store is the staff, they were very rude and even rude to eachother! It's a strange dynamic in the store and you can see they don't care to help eachother. They are also not kind to customers in store and will make remarks right in front of customers, and walk away when help is needed at the register. They also take returns from only 2 places, even though goodwill is a corporation and most stores take others in the area. This one only takes returns from their store or the Detroit location. The store inside is nice and they have a good selection of stuff and it is definitely one of the nicer goodwills that i've been to. Disappointed the staff is unhelpful though. When you pull into the parking lot the front of the store is actually the donation area, and the store part is around the side of the building. I and another customer got confused by this. The store itself was clean and organized. Pricing was not bad, and things were sorted nicely. There were some higher end items in the store. They were definitely priced higher than other things. But still cheaper than you'd find new. I didn't end up buying anything but I was glad I stopped. read more

this has to be one of the worst goodwills i've ever been to. i frequent thrift stores all the time in the michigan area, with my favorite goodwill being in mason. the clothes are so packed tight, especially in the women's bottoms that i guarantee your sales are down because of it. it's literally painful having to look through the racks, i can only imagine how an older person would feel having to navigate the clothes :( please make your clothing more accessible and shopable and maybe you will garner more traffic! read more

The staff were incredibly rude for no reason. The dressing rooms were closed so we were calmly trying on clothes over our other clothes to see if they fit. An elderly grey haired woman stomped towards us and yelled VERY loudly and RUDELY that "girls like us" like to leave things around the store. We were very clearly putting everything away as we went. She could just politely asked that we put everything away when were done. She did not need immediate approach the situation with hostility. THEN an old man who mind you was standing right near us for around 20 mins suddenly decided he had a problem with us. He yelled at us that we were acting like we were in a playground and that we were blocking people's way. There was no one there. He was acting so rude with so much attitude. I almost felt like he was about get physical. He could have asked us when we first went over there to move. We would have gladly obliged. He told us he was a supervisor. The blatant and unwarranted disrespect we encountered at this goodwill was ridiculous. I felt very attacked and disrespected. This is not how a willing customer should feel in any place. I genuinely hope something is done to remedy this disgraceful situation. Somebody needs to get involved to fix this problem. read more

Blatant disrespect, rude behavior, and horrible treatment. These things were not something I was expecting from a thrift store with a good cause. The customer treatment is very terrible. I felt hostility from both workers that chose to reprimand me for things that I evidently was not even doing. The dressing rooms were closed, so the only choice was to try things on in the store, so I decided to go to a more secluded area in the back to not get in the way of other customers. A female employee came up to me and started yelling at me for a stereotype associated with "girls like me leaving clothes in a mess". I was clearly neatly putting every item back into my cart, there was nothing out of place, and the way she snapped at me and approached me with a rude and angry tone right away suggested that she simply wanted to take her anger out on me. I don't understand what I could've possibly done to cause that kind of reaction, and it was completely uncalled for. Almost immediately after that, a man who was looking at things in the area behind me without any issues for 20 minutes suddenly snapped at me, and in a very aggressive tone told me that I'm in the way of other people and that I need to move. There were no customers that were in the area for the whole time that I was there, and I don't see why, if it were an actual issue, he didn't tell me from the start. He added that he was a "supervisor", as if that gave him the right to give me this sort of treatment and disrespect. The most appalling part of this experience were his comments about me, specifically "Don't give me that attitude". Since I was approached with hostility and rudeness, I tried to remain calm and respond politely in order to reach a common ground, and was simply justifying my choices. Again, this comment was absolutely not necessary, and a complete stranger has no right to dictate my behavior or comment on it, especially considering that I was being polite and only assertively responding to the disrespect. I did absolutely nothing wrong. The employees in both of these situations could have given me a simple, polite comment to "remember to put clothes back" or to "please move", but in both situations there was an anger-driven approach that left me very disappointed and upset. The company higher-ups should not ignore this issue, especially since I am not the only one facing these issues, and customers should not be treated this way in any situation. read more

This goodwill location is donation only. There is no store. Which is fine...however...this location has VERY rude employees! The drive is not clearly marked, I entered the wrong way...the girl started screaming at me... "Your going the wrong way!!!" Then she commanded me to stay in my car! Then she told me not to open my trunk. I really thought... "Something is wrong with this girl." Such anger! So I left. I returned another day, and it happened again with another woman!! I used to be able to walk into his store and spend $80-$100 buying things for my family and feel good. That is NOT the case anymore! They have hiked up their prices so high trying to make money off of low income families! Literally something that is normally $15 at the stores is running about the same here if not more and it's used! These are donated goods that they receive free of cost and they're turning around and marking them up so high that low income people can't even afford them anymore! This is ridiculous! This store is the bomb. There are tons of *desirable* gently-used clothing items here, as well as new accessories like hats, belts, jewelry and undergarments. Everything is reasonably priced considering how clean and friendly the store is. Yes, you may pay [just a little bit] more than Value World, but you also avoid sifting through 3 racks of garbage to find one nice item. It's obvious they don't just throw everything that's donated on their racks to sell, because then they'd be no better than their competition! In addition to the clothing, shoes and accessories, this location also has a large selection of vinyl records and CDs. The vinyl wasn't what we collect, but if you're into classic country, Barbara Streisand or classical, check it out. Employees were friendly and fast. The store was clean, bright and organized! Friendly, clean and meets my mother's exacting standards. My mother has not stepped into a charity/used store since the Cancer Society closed theirs in downtown Plymouth. That was some fourteen years back when I scored two Ethan Allen (in perfect condition) end tables for 50 bucks (for both!). I still use those tables and they are amazing. I buy used a lot though. I lured her into Goodwill with the promise of 99¢ paperbacks and $1.99 hardcovers. She has never been above used books. Once I got her in the door? Yeah. She's hooked. We found a Coach purse in excellent condition for 19.99, a Louis Vuitton purse in very good shape (not knockoffs) for 18.99 and we scooped up both. Sunglasses for a mere five bucks, several pairs as we both lose them. Stylish but cheap as chips. Books upon books upon books. yeah they had to get us a big box from the back for our haul. She even found a 44 buck chair. A comfy sturdy and clean chair. She even already has a pretty slipcover that will make it work with her room. Happiness. I love this place! read more

I was there today, 3/15/2020 between noon and 2pm. I was in an aisle looking at the hardware when one of the male employees came up to me in the aisle, grabbed my hip, and said "excuse me." I was really thrown off by it and didn't react but to ignore him. There was more than enough room for us both without any person-to-person contact, on my hip nonetheless. When I didnt react, he said "oh wow, you are really cute." I kept ignoring. He lingered around still then grabbed my shoulder and asked if he smells "or something." I said "no. But we're in a thrift shop so who knows" he then laughed nervously and said "I'll leave you alone now." I thought he was a customer until I saw him standing behind the register a few moments later. I waited until he was gone and replaced by a female employee. I walked up to be rung up and she stood blankly as I stood awkwardly looking at her. I asked "are you ready?" And she said "yeah." No smile. No hello. She was incredibly rude and remarked that she was jealous I had a lit up bar sign in my cart. She said she was "torn up" that she didnt see it first. She then tried to make me feel guilty by commenting they'd never have one like it there again. It was uncomfortable. I will never be back to this store again. It was my second time there. The first time wasn't so great either as two staff members had a conversation completely ignoring me as they rang up my items. Nahhhhhh I pass on this Goodwill. Only go there if you want to be sexually harassed and treated rudely. read more

She rings me up wrong every time I go here and when I asked her about an items price she slammed a drawer and unplugged her internet connection to pretend my card was not working. Today I experienced what I believe to be racially motivated treatment, rudeness, poor customer service and just plain unprofessionalism at Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit Canton location today. I am extremely upset with one of the worst treatments I have ever experienced. Let's start from the beginning: Today was the half off sale at the Canton location from 2-7pm. I misread the email as it being from 12 instead of 2. That was a mistake on my part. I get in line at 1:30p, and my kids are fussing, hungry and tired and just need to go home. I explain to the cashier that I've misread the email, and is there anyway I can get the half off now seeing as it's only 30 mins away. The cashier very rudely tells me, no there's no way, it starts right at 2, nothing she can do about it. She's very rude saying this mind you. I then ask for a manager as I would really appreciate the accommodation on behalf of my little ones. The manager saunters over and again VERY RUDELY tells me that she can't do that no, that I'll need to wait the half an hour to get back in line for the half off. I'm like, okay wow... Is there anyway I can leave my items at the counter and come back? NOPE, ABSOLUTELY NOT, we don't do that, is the manager's response. Meanwhile, I'm waiting and I see someone leave their cart near the register, someone tried to look through it and they inform said person that it belongs to another customer. Ohh wow, so you could do that for that customer but not me? Okay So 2:00 rolls around and I go the manager's line behind a man. She finishes talking to him and I ask if she's open. She looks over to the other cashier's line, sees there are multiple people in line and tells me I need to get to the back of the line because "that would be cutting and it's not fair". When she KNOWS and CLEARLY SEES that I've been waiting for half an hour for 2:00 to roll around. She could have accommodated me but again, due to lack of customer service, just decided not to. I then wait half an hour in a long line with two children three and younger, which any mother knows is a challenge. I finally get to the register to check out, and while I'm waiting, the baby taps his sucker on the plastic shield separating us. The cashier, again in a very rude and exasperated voice, tells me not to let him do that. Whatever. I move the cart away so he can't reach it. She makes another comment about my three year old riding this little toddler bike and how it's dangerous? Atp I'm so irritated and just ready to leave. She then tells me my total and I wait for the light on the card machine to light up. She then cuts her eyes at me, and again, very rudely, asks me the method of payment. I tell her card. She asks me what's the name of the card. That was odd to me because I've never been asked that but okay. As I'm walking away, she loudly tells the customers behind me that she just hates germs and blah blah blah and is viciously wiping the area where the baby taps his sucker like You can look at this and read this and perhaps you'll conclude that what I experienced was just some rudeness, maybe it was all in my head, maybe it was all my fault. But I know what I experienced was terrible customer service, lack of professionalism, and a treatment that if you're black and Muslim like myself, was racially motivated treatment. I plan on calling corporate, leaving a Google Maps and Yelp review, because the way I was treated was not okay AT ALL! read more

I am moving and so had a few items to donate. I was met by a young, white, female worker who, though masked, proceeded too closely to me, and then for each item began telling me, hand on her hip, "We don't take that because of COVID." My response, "Really? A tea pot? It is a tea pot." They wouldn't take extension cords, fans, or electronic items either. "What about framed wall art?" They took those and a few clothes. Apparently framed pictures and clothes don't have COVID. It was an AWFUL experience and I had to take most of my items back home. Anyone who has moved knows how stressful it is to have to pack everything you own into boxes in time for the move date. A quick trip to Goodwill or Salvation Army is almost always part of moving. Having yet another task added to decide how to discard these reusable items because the Goodwill refused them was beyond frustrating. The day before my move, I snapped pictures of the saleable and giveaway items and posted them on Nextdoor. Within a few hours, all items were claimed and picked up. I even connected with a family in need and gave things to them directly. Forget this place. What a waste of time. read more

This location is a joke, DO NOT SHOP OR DONATE TO IT. The staff is rude and doesn't care. And if you donate stuff, you may just get an obnoxious guy with long hair that refuses to help you unload your car and says to you, "Ya know, back in my day we had these things called garage sales. You should've had one, you could've made some money." I thought that was an inappropriate comment to make, but I fired back at him with "I did have a garage sale, sir. This is all of the stuff that didn't sell. You should've come; you could've bought it all from me and saved me a trip and my time coming here and experiencing you making that inappropriate comment just now." Thankfully that shut him up and probably pissed him off too as he didn't say another word after that, even when I asked him a question as to where I should put something; he just pointed instead. But let's be honest and real for a moment, why would you say that to someone who's just trying to get rid of some things they don't need anymore at a donation place? It's downright rude and unacceptable. He almost didn't want to give me a receipt either. Instead, he argued with me about taxes and the value of all of the things I had. He's just very unprofessional, inappropriate, and unacceptable as an employee. There was another time my aunt went there to donate stuff at this location, and the same guy was there and was asking an Arabic man if he had a job and wouldn't he be better off selling these items at his job. Again, rude and unacceptable behavior in the workplace. Whoever that guy is, he needs to go; he should've been gone yesterday. All-in-all, just stay away from this location. The Goodwill over on Middlebelt in Livonia is much friendlier and nicer anyway. read more

I was in the area visiting as I live and work in the Clearwater, Florida area (real estate) and I love to shop at thrift stores. This Goodwill location is smaller than many Goodwill stores I'm accustomed. I did not find anything that I wanted to buy during my visit but it's clean and has public restrooms which is a huge plus for those with children. read more

But, we donate frequenlty and the staff was great and the process was made easy by them. The place is clean, modern. It probably attracts quality because of it. It's been a couple of years now that I noticed a change in the environment of my favorite Goodwill, at first it was only organizational issues and empty shelves at times. Recently it seems as though things are taking an up-swing and the place is really comfortable and easy to shop in once again. As of late, my only real and true complaint is a much greater one: Kathie.. I used to simply walk out after the realization that she was the only cashier. But, last week while shopping, I noticed there were quite a few people on the sales floor, so, I thought we might risk going up to the register and try our luck in hopes one of the kinder cashiers would ring my son and I up. But unfortunately the manager and other cashier were tied up with another more complicated transaction and we ended up in Kathie's line. She managed to speak to a fellow customer so imprudently and rudely that we walked out of the line, left our items and the store without making a purchase! Please do something about her or else I will probably quit shopping there for good even though this is my favorite thrift shop in the area. read more

So I have been an Thrift Store Junkie since I was a small child. I have been in some of the worst thrift stores in the state of Michigan. This goodwill store is the cream of the crop! First off the store is CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know totally shocking. When I entered the store every employee said hello and they were happy to be there! They had a really amazing selection of clothing. The furniture was really clean and in great condition. There were tons of items that were brand new! The prices were a little on the high side but I will gladly pay more not to feel like my skin is crawling after leaving the store. Don't get me wrong I always have hand sanitizer, but I actually tried on some clothing rather than just guessing that they will fit. When I mentioned to the employees that this was the nicest Goodwill store they told me it was a "Flagship store." They have a member rewards program!!!! If you spend enough you will get a coupon for 15% off, they have a facebook page, and will send you coupons to your e-mail address! I will definatily be back to this location. They opened in Dec 2010, so here is hopeing that it stays a clean and friendly location! read more
