I was about to give this ReStore branch a merely fair 3-star review, but I decided that my reason…read morewasn't really fair so I added a star. I will say why below. Anyway, we are in the process of expanding our living space and will need a few additional sticks of furniture, so we drove to Bangor to check it out as part of our periodic trip to "the big city." Their items are in one large warehouse-looking space. They had a good variety of items: furniture, housewares, tools and building supplies, and so on. They had a lot of new tools and painting supplies. Not sure why - items they didn't use for one of their house builds, maybe? The tables and bureaus we checked out looked a bit knocked about for the prices they were asking, but we are used to thrift store or similar sources, and prices are higher everywhere these days in our current economy. We will probably check back at some point if we don't fill our needs elsewhere. We bought a few smaller items, however, with prices that were more in line with what we expected. The "unfair" reasons I mentioned for almost rating it lower was twofold. We lived in Florida for several years by mistake (because of the hot summers and the local politics), but there was a ReStore we really like there and went to often. There was a showroom area made up of several rooms containing separate types of items. There was also a partially covered outside area where there was more furniture and building materials. With no snow or frigid temperatures they can get away with that. The second reason I was less impressed had to do with the entire strip mall. There is no restroom in any of the ten or so businesses in this strip mall. So if it takes you an hour or more to get there like it does for us, you may need to stop somewhere else first if you need a pit stop. But it is all for a good cause and certainly worth a return trip if we need to.

I got "deferred" because of something that is involuntary (twitching from pinched nerve in my…read morespine, that i have had for a while now and nobody said anything before) Unfortunately this was my only source of income because i'm disabled. As for the staff, VERY few of them are friendly and helpful and the others look and act like they don't want to be there or don't really care.

I've occasionally been tempted to rip these people a new one, but I'll give them a pass for now…read more Successfully donating around 65% of the time; the other 35% of the time there are repeated issues that either result in me getting "deferred" or getting bounced around between workers, adding lots of time to a process that should be much more streamlined, imho. Adding to the delays are the unavailability of front-facing, front desk personnel, or rather, the delays in getting acknowledged when you come in. The staff at this facility are friendly but overworked and communication between the units is sometimes haphazard and confused. The times I've gotten to the "Donor Floor" for the actual donation, things have been o. k., but there are so many hoops to have to jump through beforehand that the whole process is drawn out for way too long. I get that they're understaffed and probably underpaid, but it's frustrating to have the same issues almost every time I come to donate. (But maybe these hoops are designed to delay the $$$ part? -Just sayin'.) So, a mixed review :-/
