I recently went to the east side Goodwill for the first time in a long time. Now that I have a kid, I have more reason to go there to find clothes she'll only be able to wear for a year. On this trip we found some fun things she liked, and I found a shirt for myself. If you don't know the layout, it's fairly confusing. It's not that it doesn't make sense, it's more the lack of signage. After perusing the small selection of furniture, we went to girls clothes. I thought it was strange that there were no tops, only skirts and pants. When I asked an employee, it sounded like where were was the area for those sizes of clothes. A little wandering proved me wrong! Tops and dresses are in a different row! I noticed there are two bathrooms and no changing room. When I asked the same employee, I was brusquely told that there was a 2 week (I think) return window with a receipt if the tags were still attached. In other words, no. They don't have a fitting room. This is where I again want to point out that Goodwill gets their stuff for FREE. I'm assuming they don't want people to steal the things Goodwill gets for free. The answer is to generally deal with it and not punish good honest customers because you're afraid someone is going to walk out with a $4 shirt. I guess the pros right now are that the store is more clean and orderly than I remember. I think the cons are that it still seems like a place where you simply take your chances when you buy something. Maybe it fits. Maybe it doesn't. Maybe it works. Maybe it doesn't. I'm pretty sure they don't test any of it. Clearly, it offers cheap clothes and other stuff. Just be prepared to use the bathroom if you have to try something on. read more

This place used to be a wreck. Stuff anywhere/everywhere. Prices that were somebody's deepest fantasy. Shoddy stuff. Whether it's the pandemic or management discipline, this store has improved, and that's saying A LOT. Hat's off, folks! Stuff is largely in the right place. It's priced reasonably. Selection is better since the pandemic and the closure of Vintage Vogue. There are actually deals here worth shopping for. I'm impressed with the effort. People worked hard, because of many Goodwill stores, this one was the most insane in the area. Now it's much better, organized, and there are decent values and merch. Carry on. Good work. read more

Great for finding books. At $1 per paperback, there's no better place to go. Sure, Goodwill doesn't have an extensive selection like Half Priced Books, but that's the fun of Goodwill: thrifting. You have to be patient to find the gems. If you're not a fan of bargain hunting, this game isn't for you. Bloomington is a college town, filled with books. Students, professors, and local townies discard their books at Goodwill. Lucky for us. Go around the end of the semester, that's when students donate all the novels they didn't read for class. I've purchased NYTimes bestsellers, pulitzer prize winners, and plenty of nonfiction. My two favorite finds? Fiction: Interpreter of Maladies Nonfiction: Gender and the Civil War Unlike other states, Indiana's Goodwills have set prices for clothing items. Check your money before you leave.. very important.. I was there Tuesday to buy some clothes for my dad. I paid $51 and got $8 and some change back. Long story short the$5 bill was a fake. Didn't realize until I took my dad home 45 min drive. Good luck must be going around. read more

overpriced merch. They really should be pricing a lot more stuff at 50 cents. And watch out for the giant plastics department, where nothing is BPA free. But the thing that really drives me nuts is finding two different prices on the EXACT same item. You carry the two items up to the front and ask them to reprice for you and the answer invariably is "the price is the price". It's like the Kafka of thrift stores..... Take my advice and take your donations and dollars to OPPORTUNITY HOUSE, where the vice presidents are not earning $200k. read more

Goodwill recently moved from a smaller store on Bloomington's eastside to this nearby much larger one. Unfortunatley, bigger in this case is not better. Women's clothes, which are in the front section, are supposed to be arranged by size but too frequently 10's are found in the 14's, 16's in the 12's etc. The household section, in the back of the store, is a mess, with merchandise too crowded and piled in layers on the shelves. There is litter and store merchandise strewn on the floor, an unsightly and potentially dangerous situation. The smaller store is sorely missed. read more
