First, my apologies to Sharonda S., I cant imagine losing my mom, then someone making my situation…read moreworse by Not keeping their word. This place needs to be shut down and reported! No One should receive money for poor service and NOT doing their jobs. I almost feel like it's my duty to make sure they no longer have donations, charitable events, and/or sponsors Ever Again. Last night was the second time I used DonateStuff/Purple Heart, only to see my items still on my lawn the next morning. The first time, I was in an apartment and guaranteed by someone on the phone that someone would "show". They did NOT show and I received a FINE from my apartment complex. I contact someone higher up and cannot think of the contact information and they resolved the situation immediately the next morning. That is the reason why, I gave them another chance BUT now I do not think anyone deserves a job or profit over there. It is using people whom actually been through something (Vets,Lupus, high risk children, etc) as a pawn and making a profit WITHOUT helping and providing for them. It's NO WAY, the way this is ran, they're actually giving to the Organizations and I wholeheartedly believe that. And I ONLY donate quality items... I am done.

I called Purple Heart/donatestuff (Houston) to schedule a pickup. Long story short, I labeled all…read moreboxes and put all of the items on the porch before 7:00 as instructed. I called around 5 pm because no one came. They said they didnt have a code to enter the gate. (which they didn't need because its manned 24 hours AND they could have called if they did in fact come by) I rescheduled for the next morning. I informed them that I had ALOT of boxes. I moved them back inside and out the next morning. The truck arrives around 4pm. The driver gets out and proceeds to let me know he cannot pick up all these boxes and I will need to call and reschedule a pick up for items he can't load. I explained that I informed the office on a couple occasions that there were ALOT of boxes. He said it's their problem in the office and it happens all the time. His attitude from the time he arrived was grumpy and rude. He then proceeds to put a couple boxes on the back of his truck, climbs up and throws the boxes to the front of his truck! I heard glass breaking and I'm pretty sure most of the items were damaged! These items were not junk and were in perfect condition. We were moving and I was downsizing in a lot of areas. So I started putting the rest of the boxes in the garage so he could leave. I was shocked and I will not be calling them in the future. I called because I have a son that was in the army and I wanted to offer support to their cause. These items could have helped several families. Needless to say I did not call them to reschedule the pick up. I did use another company and they were courteous and happy to assist.

It's quick, easy, and perfectly located on my way home from work which makes it almost impossible to use the "I don't have time" excuse. The team here is genuinely kind and attentive. From check-in to the chair, everyone made the process smooth and comfortable. On my most recent visit, I donated platelets for the first time at their request and it went great. They explained everything clearly, checked on me throughout, and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Giving blood or platelets is such a simple thing to do that can make a huge difference for someone else. The Pasadena team makes it easy. If you've been thinking about donating, this is a great place to do it.

The process is actually not as time consuming as one may think, on average your out of there in 20min. They sit you down in a room to do a questionare on computer. Next they prick your finger to check your blood iron to see if your eligible for donation, sometimes you may not have a rich iron diet and your Hct maybe too low to donate so if your planning on donating anytime soon, you should eat iron rich foods for the week and make sure to wash it down with OJ as vitamin C assists absorption of iron ;) Also if your a tea drinker its suggested not to that week as tea blocks iron from absorbing. After the vital signs, the paperwork is done, its time! The phlebotomist was reassuring as she preps your arm and your comfortably lying down... I recommend just not looking the entire time so it doesnt hit you! I was texting the entire time I was hooked up, and taking pictures! Its not too bad at all, just get up slowly, you may experience a little vertigo or hypotension. The give you juice and cookies there after and your outta there! The blood drives that are hosted around town may give you t shirts, gift certificates or discounts. The most important thing you get out of this is KNOWING YOU SAVED A LIFE or several... depending how your blood is dispensed, whole or divided into platelets or plasma, so see your doing a good thing! You dont even need an appointment, I just happened to drive by and saw the fairly new location on the way home... Locations all over too!
