Home with a smashed kneecap, hungry for real food and some human contact, I'm 74, living alone…read morewith two cats. I can feed my furry buddies, sitting on my kitchen floor, but not myself -- can't cook or reach anything. Friends and coworkers kindly bring me rat-burgers and root beer, so that's been pretty much my healing diet ... until tomorrow. Danny from RCCA came out for an assessment, and set me up instantly (God bless him good) and now my diet suddenly upgrades to nutritious, home-made HOT MEALS (!) delivered to my door by volunteer neighbors. Five stars? I'd like to give them Ten. Getting old is a beautiful journey with a promised loving welcome at the end. Meantime, here we are, actual senior citizens with diminishing abilities, both cognitive and physical. We value our independence and cherish each day in a way that the young can't understand, nor can you slap it into them. We are still valuable contributors to society, rich in decades of common sense, memories, experience, and SOMETIMES WE ALL NEED HELP. This is the fourth time in the last ten years that the Bitterroot Council on Aging has helped me with age-related issues. Their open-hearted assistance has cost me nothing, and I've given them not one dime. But I'll find a way to contribute, even by volunteering when I'm back on my feet. Feel free to donate to them, too, if you have the funds. They help old people keep their priceless dignity.
