SMALL BUT ACCEPTING (5 stats)…read more Never knew this place existed because it's the middle of a tiny plaza and blends in like a business. But it's a donation center that opens at 9am - 6pm everyday. So happy to have found this place as I was looking to donate some house items - many new, with tags, or lightly used (if you know me I buy quality things) and in the midst of minimalizing my home. Usually I drop loads at The Salvation Army but they open at later times and even the big donation centers are rejecting items "we don't have room" (ex: small 4 pair shoe rack) but you'll see them take a truck behind you full of junk-junk. Parking is easy, it's in a not so busy neighborhood plaza. Workers show up early or on time (I respect that!) and are ready for you at exactly at 9am. You can walk in and drop items off in the bins or you can wheel the in with the carts. The staff will give you a receipt and you are on your way. I bless my past things and hope the get put to good use and to good homes in need!

Staff is friendly & efficient with getting your drop offs into the correct bins. Every time I've come, there is parking right in front for easy unloading. Staff offers to do tax write off receipts if needed. I've never spent more than 5 minutes here even with a car full of items. Parking lot is easy to pull in & out of, easy to locate store front.

This is a terribly organized operation. As far as I can tell, there is no system for communicating…read moreinformation from one remote agent to another. Most unfortunately, they seem to have a monopoly on charitable donations of vehicles (as other reviewers have said, e.g. PBS AND a local animal shelter). I first had two different people call me & ask for precisely the same detailed information (name, location of the car, accessibility, type of car, details about condition of car, etc.)--I spent a total of 1 1/2 hours with the SECOND agent providing precisely the same information I had provided the day or two days before. Then yesterday, another agent called (agent #3--or #4...there was another call in there) and said, "This is CARS, I'm calling to let you know that I have left a voicemail message & sent an email to a towing service to pick up your car--the towing company will get in touch with you tomorrow or possibly the day after." Today, I get yet another agent (#5) saying that she was from CARS & was calling to schedule a pick-up! When I told her that I was tired of having to go through the same process over & over & had already been called by someone with the information that the towing company had been contacted, she insisted that it must have been another company. We went back & forth about this a couple of times. Then she told me I would need the title--and I explained --now for the 4th or 5th time--that the title was lost, but that in CA there's a simple form for dealing with it...& she interrupted me to tell me just what I was telling her, as if she were the expert & I had no idea. With this company, you're just starting from square one over & over. I'm sure that the people who are working for the company are poorly paid, but they could be MUCH better trained. There could be a real system for keeping track of the steps in each vehicle donation. I have no way to prove this, but the lack of the most basic organization & customer service awareness makes me question the integrity of the business--I wonder how much of the car value actually goes to the designated charity. A friend suggested selling the car & donating the money directly to the charity & that's my plan so that I can avoid dealing with this organization, CARS.

The only thing that sucked about it was the fact that this was farther inland, and thus it got hotter during the day. This building is farther away from the main freeways that connect San Diego to LA and the IE. It is still a nice, calm drive. The instructor hosting the training was a chill person. We connected well, as we're both veterans. The other students were a mixture of healthcare professionals, event planners, law enforcement, and industrial managers. We were training to be instructors, so this made sense. The class was more fun than anything. It flew by fast. Once we all got a turn teaching a section and getting feedback, we were good to go. The building is clean, spacious, and comfortable. The only thing is, if you come to do training here, make sure to bring food, or to plan it accordingly. The food places are a bit far from here. Overall, the training was fun in a comfortable setting. I would recommend this place, whether you come here for recerts or to certify as an instructor.

I've been donating blood and red cells for years and it's always been sort of hit and miss as to whether I get a great phlebotomist or one who seems to still be learning the ropes. My only (reluctant) complaint would be regarding the shirts which tend to be overly colorful verging on gaudy. I'm happy to donate and to promote the Red Cross, but simpler designs on black or white shirts would be preferable. One other (reluctant) complaint - the Red Cross is forever advertising various incentives for donors like gift cards to various businesses and other things. "Donate now and receive a $20 Amazon gift card!" "Donate now and receive a $10 Starbuck card!" "Donate now and receive a free limited edition (whatever)." In all the time I've been donating, I have never received nor been offered anything other than pretzels and orange juice. Of course I don't donate to get free stuff, but it might behoove the Red Cross to stop advertising in this way. It's annoying to receive multiple emails every week with all sorts of offers that never seem to materialize (at least in my experience). That said, I appreciate all the things the Red Cross does for the nation. Keep up the good work.

Folks contacting them should keep in mind that things are sometimes *slow* now because of staff layoffs forced by federal budget cuts! And meanwhile, so many more people need help, whether with groceries, legal services, mental health or other things! But once clients are processed in the system, the staff is really wonderful and treats clients like family. The Corner Market provides a "shopping experience" for folks who are having trouble with grocery bills where people get to choose their own items, rather than getting stuck with a standard basket of flour, cheese, etc. They have fresh produce, sometimes brought from volunteers' trees, or rescued from grocery stores. They also provide free legal services with regard to immigration (though keep in mind again that there are only so many of them, and right now they don't have as much staff as they used to when they had grants). Overall, a wonderful organization, with really loving and caring staff. (if you're thinking of volunteering, it's a great place to do it! You need to be cleared with a background check, training and fingerprinting, to protect clients!)
