I've been blessed to have traveled to places that excite and gives me the option to shop and with that I try my best to not hold on to items that no longer gives me that purpose and create a lovely tote of donation hoping that it will find new home and purpose to someone else. This donation container is found at Kahala Mall you just need to go to the back side of the mall just below the Queens Urgent Care and there's always a staff there seven days a week happily take your items and is super convenient. Many folks are in need to have items for work, school or just to fill your home and know that every item has it's purpose as long it's useable so to parting with them not only saves it from unnecessarily being dumped but an affordable way to give. We were in the Kahala area and remembered that there's a small donation center in the covered parking lot by the theater wing of Kahala Mall. Located across the parking lot from Panda Express, it was a quick, convenient drop off. The friendly man asked if we needed a receipt... Yes, please! We will be back!

The good thing about it is that it's covered... you can drop off your items even though it's raining! Enter and exit on Young Street. Just follow the signs! Collect a donation receipt before you leave! Easy!

National I AM day…read more.. A positive affirmation that we all need to remind ourselves more often than you'd realize and on this day I am focused to clear some unused items that I did in just minutes and dropped them off for donation at a neighborhood Goodwill. The positive feeling to reduce the stress of decluttering and making a space for myself to relax and enjoy it with moments to do what I enjoy and to donate them hoping it will go to someone who needs it. This Goodwill on Beretania is very convenient with a drive thru drop off and you're given a paper which you can claim in for your tax receipt though the feeling to help is always great and along with Goodwill we can make a difference. They fed us 3 meals a day and helped my parents find employment and budget their money. Eventually they helped us get into Weinberg village transitional homeless shelter in Waimanalo. We left Weinberg after 2 years and started renting a home in Pearl city and eventually we had our finances set well enough that in 2017 we bought our first home together. I was so ashamed to say that I lived here when I was in high school but looking back on it today as a grown man I have to say that IHS was an absolute blessing for me and my family. I was looking for a place where I could donate some of my belongings that could be of better use…read morethan just sitting in my closet and drawers being unused, but I wanted to make sure the donation would go directly to the people in need right here in Hawaii. And specifically, to women and children in need. Surprisingly, I couldn't find many places that fit these specifications till I came across the the Women's & Family Shelter, an emergency shelter from the Institute for Human Services (IHS). IHS is an independent, local 501c3 nonprofit organization that makes sure 100% of all donations stays in Hawaii. Drop off was really simple. The donation drop off area is open Monday thru Friday from 0800-1600. You can park your vehicle temporarily right in front of the garage while you offload your items. On their website, there are 5 different ways you can help: 1. Monetary Donation. A link is provided on the website for your convenience. This can be a one time donation or you can set up a monthly donation. 2. An In-Kind Donation. The donation center is located around the corner of IHS at the garage entrance on Kaamahu Place. On the website " Wish List" you can find a list of what type of items are in need. Items needed are gently used clothing (all types) household toiletries (even makeup), school items, food, baby related items to name a few. Basically just think of what you use and need and eat on a daily basis to give yourself an idea of what you could donate to help another person/child. 3. Planned Giving, such as bequests from an estate plan or will, real estate, personal property, etc. 4. Cooperate and foundation giving, such as scholarships, grants, direct donations, etc. 5. Volunteer. There are many different types of volunteer opportunities, such as tutoring children, kitchen help, serving meals, working at the health clinic, sorting donations, etc. There's an opportunity for everyone to give in whatever form you choose. So instead of letting your drawers, closet, garage, shoe rack, etc get cluttered with unused or unwanted items, why not give it back to the community to help another person or child out? Or if you're not ready to part with your treasures a monetary gift is always appreciated. Donating my belongings not only made my house much tidier, but I was also happy knowing my items had a 2nd life while helping to meet the needs of a person/child right here in Hawaii.

Every time I've stopped by to drop off a donation of food items, the employees and volunteers have been very helpful. Parking is very limited, with all the trucks and other equipment in the lot, so it's good that someone is usually outside to help. They allow me to stop at the front, and even bring a dolly and unload the food from my car to bring it in. They will also provide a written donation receipt, upon request. With the number of families losing their homes and everything during the recent storms, it's reassuring that the Hawaii Foodbank will be there to help provide relief.

Sounds easy but I can tell you it's very hard work just as a volunteer. There's a lot of behind the scenes support from the team like truck drivers on the road all day to the warehouse crew providing logistical assistance day in and out. Administration and Management to the custodians and maintenance people keeping things clean and running. MAHALO PLENTY TO EACH AND EVERYONE. You're the BEST! Never go hungry.

Taking a trip... To…read moredrop off and donate some unused and items that I hope to find great home as I packed my little carry on bag with clothings that I no longer use it feels nostalgic as I wheel it to my car though this trip is for a great cause. Green Drop Hawaii Kai location is in the corner of the huge "Park and Ride" lot sharing spaces with Goodwill and a Reynolds Recycling container. Though this Green Drop Hawaii Kai location is literally across from the Towne Center location the giving never stops as it's almost filled to capacity. Open daily makes it an easy place to drop off and the staff are there so friendly and willing to take it off your hands. Thank you!

12/04/25  I had a couple of boxes of unused adult diapers to donate and all the regular donation…read moreplaces and medical offices did not take these, especially if it is open boxed.  I saw online that Hawaii had a diaper bank and didn't know if they just took baby diapers only and unopened boxes.  When I checked their website, I read there is a need for adult diapers as well and open boxes were ok.  Aloha Diaper Bank is conveniently located on the 2nd floor of Windward Mall right next to the Regal theaters.  The set up of this place is very nice.  It looks like a regular mall store.  There's a bin at the entrance for donations and when I came, there were 2 women volunteers.  I told them I had to make a few trips because the bags were heavy and I couldn't carry it all in on one trip.  They offered a huge flat bed cart but I told them I don't have that many bags so one of the ladies offered to come with me to the car and help me. We managed to get the bag in on one trip.   They were both appreciative of the donation and mentioned they do get requests for adult diapers.  I also had 2 unopened pkgs of adult wipes that they happily accepted.  So that's good to know they accept these in addition to the diapers.  Both ladies were so nice and in speaking to them, have been volunteers at the diaper bank for a few years.  It's good to know that Hawaii has a good resource to help keiki and families in need.

It is hard to rate IHS. Recently, my work organization did a service project here to help with…read moresorting clothes. I write this review to spread words out there for IHS. They can always use helping hands. So if your organization such as work, church, or whatever it is, do contact IHS for good cause. I do understand that we have mixed emotion about homeless etc. but sometimes you do for people who are wanting to help who are in need. So think of it as you are helping the good people. I spent 3 hours on a Saturday and staff were so appreciative and offered us snacks and water. Oh I learned that this location is for women. IHS on Nimitz is for men. And I'm not going lie, when I got to this location to check in at the counter I didn't feel safe. But once I went inside the building and met with other volunteers I was okay.

There's many services available at IHS for those in need. My review is for the wonderful help today…read moreto unload all the bags of rice and box of canned goods from my car. Our local chapter of Blacks In Government had our annual collection of donations of rice and canned goods from our membership (and friends). Even though I came at a busy time of day, IHS had numerous volunteers to come out and help retrieve the donations. Thanks guys, BIG mahalo for helping me so quickly in the small parking lot before the rain poured down. Happy Holidays!
