Instead of compassion or urgency, I was asked, "Have we seen you here before?" When I said no and explained the emergency, her only response was, "Well this is why we tell people to call before they come in. We're full and can't take your dog." I was so taken aback by the rudeness and lack of empathy that I walked out, placed my dog back in the car, and then returned inside to address how inappropriate her response had been given the severity of the situation. While I calmly voiced my discontent, the only response I received was a dismissive "Mmmmhmmmm, ok" repeated a few times. No apology. No acknowledgment. No concern. Nothing. I was absolutely floored. This wasn't a scheduling issue or a routine visit. This was a dog struggling to breathe.
