Fitness Evolution is a new company started up by a personal trainer called John who primarily…read moreworks for the Fitness First gym in the centre of town. He has recently expanded to create is own home Personal Training company whereby he can come and visit you in the comfort of your own home. This is especially handy if you have a young-an to look after or even a husband who needs constant attention! I warn you that you will feel like you have died after just one hour with him. I don't think i have ever worked so hard in my entire life, and I sure did suffer the morning after. However, I take this as a positive thing as it tells me that he has actually got me to use muscles I never knew existed and that my money is clearly well spent. Within 3 sessions with him, myself and others noticeably saw a positive difference in both my body and my confidence. My fitness levels have soared and I can finally fit into that size 8 dress that I bought years ago with the intention of getting into!! I now know without a shadow of a doubt that I could never have lost the weight without his help. I really value the fact that he explains everything in such detail so I fully understand the techniques, meaning I can do them by myself. Price wise, I feel Fitness Evolution is extremely good value. A one off session will cost roughly £35, but the best thing to do is to buy in bulk. This means you can get 5 sessions for £100 making it just £20 a go. Top tip - Fitness Evolution has many deals with local shops so ask him if he has any vouchers and you may find yourself having a free cheeky cocktail at Pitcher and Piano, or money off vouchers at sports shops. Bannatynes boasts a 20 metre swimming pool, state of the art gym, over 80 classes a week and 1:1 personal training. Do expect to pay much more for your membership than the likes of Fitness First, but you are paying for a more exclusive experience. If you are not fussed by luxury then it's probably not worth the extra money. Take note, if you don't have a GPS or Googlemaps, them you may find it hard to find as it really is tucked away amongst lots of houses.

The staff are really good- helpful and friendly, and the bar/cafe makes a nice place to relax after a workout or to meet with friends or clients for business purposes. Hot snacks and drinks, juices, wine, spirits and bottled beer are all on sale. The sauna is nice enough if a little small, the steam room and changing rooms are often grubby. Can't say I've been for any of the beauty treatments at 'The Sensory', but they seem to do a good trade which can't be a bad sign. The range of classes is good but you need to book well in advance for the most popular ones. There is also aqua aerobics on a regular basis and swimming training on Tuesday evenings that can do wonders for your front crawl. Kids are allowed in the pool on weekends only, for which I believe their parents pay a premium.

Not that I was particularly hard to convince as this place has an amazing spa area and swimming pool, as well as all the usual gym suspects. You really do get what you pay for with gyms and although this place is eye-wateringly expensive, you do get an easier gym experience - think personal greetings, complimentary towels and regular free health check-ups such as BMI and cholesterol levels. If your paycheque doesn't stretch to becoming a member then check out the website for weekend or daytime offers for non-members.

Apparently it was even…read morevoted one of, if not the best in the country by one of those magazines that has a half naked, smug looking bloke on the front, the type of guy with more time on his hands to spend in a gym than is humanly possible. Get a job man! Chip on my shoulder, me? Never... But it does have the perfect mix of cardio machines (for girls) and weights (for boys) and an extremely good number of both. They also have a pool, which is really nice for a gym in the centre of town as this one is. They do evening classes that come free as part of your membership, although I haven't done one yet. You can also buy a day pass if you are not in town for long and looking for a gym to use. They have Sky Sports so you can watch the football at the weekends while you pretend to be exercising. The only bad things about this gym are the price (for us normal people, i.e. not students) and how busy it gets in rush hour (after work). You might even say it is almost over subscribed, as often there are no lockers available and no treadmills to use. it's a real shame they've done this as I know it does anger a lot of members.
