Even with the rings set on the property, the field appears very nicely maintained. Maybe all the rain AZ has received recently has contributed to that. Clearly various activities occur here but I'm here for the dog shows hosted by the Yuma Kennel Club and the Imperial Valley Kennel Club. There are a few vendors offering everything from toys, treats, chews, collars and leashes to those providing beverages, snacks, and meals to help us keep up our energy for winning, long show days. Club members are helpful and cheerful volunteers. Exhibitors bring some impressive competition. And in addition to the Conformation show you may also see Rally Trials as well as CGC and ATT testing offered. A really nice venue.

That moment alone is why I'm giving it more than one star. Unfortunately, everything else was a nightmare. The event was incredibly poorly organized. They sell thousands of tickets, so you'd think they would have a better system in place. Just getting into the event took us an hour and a half. Once inside, we spent some time decorating our lanterns and eventually launched them into the sky. It really was an unforgettable sight. But the moment our lantern was in the air, I packed up my belongings and left immediately because I knew getting out would be another disaster. I wasn't about to sit through another hour or two in traffic. The experience with my family was worth it. The event organization was not. If they can improve parking, traffic control, and entry/exit logistics, this could be an amazing event. Until then, be prepared for a lot of frustration before and after the main attraction.

The event is typically held the weekend before Veterans Day (11/11). Don't forget to bring a jacket in case it gets chilly. If you're bringing kids, I'd also recommend bringing masks for them since there can be quite a bit of smoke from the torches.

Lots of free parking and shopping to be had. Wear comfortable shoes, sunscreen, hat, take water and be prepared to do lots of walking. January is a perfect month to visit when it is nice weather and not too hot.

Then was harassed by the local police who immediately copped an attitude and played the asshole game on me, making me move my motorhome over 10 feet. I had planned on spend some money here and staying a couple of days, but I'm out at first light and will eat breakfast down the road. All the tourists are gone and just the local druggies are left.
