The entire time I was there (under 24 hours) I was treated amazingly. I cannot begin to say enough kind words about everyone I met there. My night nurse Jess was truly a saint for putting up with my post surgery self. I wish everyone there the absolute best in their lives and careers. Thank you a thousand times over!!

Unfortunately, my experience was frustrating from the start. During pre-registration, I was completely confused about how I would receive my post-surgery medications. The nurse handling my intake incorrectly told me that my doctor didn't prescribe meds to be delivered at the hospital. I had to check MyChart myself and confirm that, in fact, my prescriptions were being handled there and would be delivered bedside. This unnecessary confusion could have been avoided with better communication. My actual hospital stay was even worse. My pain catheter became unplugged, and I didn't realize it for hours until I felt something wet. The nurse never checked it, leaving me in excruciating pain without proper management. Twice, I was the one who discovered the issue. My IV also blew, and the beds were so thin they caused serious back discomfort. The nurse assigned to me was very new and lacked the experience to handle my care properly. To make matters worse, I was denied the progression of pain medication, and I still don't understand why. Thankfully, the next shift was a completely different experience. A more experienced nurse took over, got me in tip-top shape, and both she and the floor supervisor apologized profusely. While I appreciate their efforts to make things right, the initial experience was unacceptable. This facility needs to improve its communication, staff training, and oversight--especially for post-surgical care. I was very disappointed and frustrated at the least but never was rude. I just cried when morning staff had told me my doctors orders regarding prn control and how the night nurse refused me this medication. So many hours in pure agony. The Night Nurse actually quoted me saying did you know that most addictions start right after surgery! She also said oh you'll be taking pills because you're prescribed pills when you go home yet I'm not home right now? These are word for word.

We were seen right away, and my son was put on an iv for hydration and given pain medication. He had blood work, a ct scan and other tests run to rule out appendicitis, etc. and then he was discharged, all within 3 hours. We felt confident in their diagnosis of a virus. We were in constant contact with a relative who is a nurse and she was very impressed with the level of care we received. On top of this, the hospital is clean and very modern.

Each member told me their name and what their job was. For the first time going into an OR, I did not feel like a piece of meat. Apparently I had an incident while on the table. I don't know the details, but my posting here shows the surgeon and her team were prepared for the unexpected. The nurse in recovery was genuinely kind in helping me out of my anesthesia-induced haze. Until I was scheduled there, I did not even know Sunnyside had a hospital. But should I ever need another operation, I would definitely go there again. My wife was given complimentary coffee and a meal ticket for lunch as she waited for me too!
