WOW! The burgers are truly excellent, as are the sides. It blows any other burger in Dunedin out of the water.

Loved this pub in Dunedin, next to New Zealand's famous Speights Brewery. The ales were great of…read morecourse, but the food was surprisingly good too! I had the chicken parcel, which was chicken breasts in phylo dough with bacon, soft cheese and almonds, plus a salad and crispy potatoes - delicious - and so large that the leftovers made a super lunch the next day. My wife had a chowder that she really liked too. Service was so-so as our waitresss seemed very busy and it took a while to get our bill, but the ambiance is excellent, with lots of historical items and a really fun vibe. Definitely worth having dinner here if you can!

Quality/Quantity - Wished I discovered this place sooner;…read moreit would have been nice to have taken the brewery tour. We got here too late and only had enough time to get a flight. Later we discovered their beers at all the local supermarkets. She told me that the flights of 8 were NOT that much beer. That they were only about 3 ounces each. Well (see picture) they were about 5 ounces each... The fight hit the spot, I was just glad I did not have to walk too far to get back to the cruise ship... Atmosphere - Huge brewery. Restaurant, bar/brewery, etc. Interesting decor throughout. Booth, table, bar, etc seating. Seating upstairs or downstairs, etc. Brewery tours 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm. Service - Good, counter service. Price - $22 NZ; $13.50 US. Inexpensive for what I got, I am surprised I finished... Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1999 (1876 brewery). I will be sure to take the brewery tour next time I am here and might even try your food. Well, I can just do your brewery lunch or dinner tasting tour!

Craft Bar has prime location on the Octagon in Dunedin. A part of Monteith's, Craft Bar features…read moreMonteith's beers on taps, but an extensive wine and bottled beer list as well. As with all Monteith's I've visited, there is a certain amount of quality you come to expect from their menu, staff and ambiance and this one didn't disappoint. Here there was indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor area has TVs playing old music videos which was entertaing to watch while we waited for our food (it was a rather busy night as it was Otago U graduation) -- I still strongly recommend a booking. If you're a Monteith's club member, your card will work here! I had a lamb salad which was amazing; the fresh and bright dressing and salad toppings paired beautifully with the savoury marinated lamb. My friends ordered the calamari which is fried and drizzled over with a light dressing. They were quickly consumed. Mark ordered a burger that was served on a ciabatta roll with streaky bacon inside, chips and tomato paste on the side. He ate every last crumb! One friend ordered the battered cod, which looked appealing even to my non-fish-eating eyes. The lamb loin and roasted potatoes that my other friend ordered always looked delicious; however, the plating was sort of bland. Our service was quick despite the crowd and our beers were never left empty. Definitely a great spot for dinner or drinks if you're in Dunedin, especially for large groups.
