I was expecting Queso that had the consistency of typical Queso. I love Queso, and was sooo disappointed. Is your consistency (like water) on purpose? If so, why??? You dip a chip and it's water cheese. Doesn't stick at all. Are you really from Austin? Not like any Queso I've had in the 20 plus years I've lived in Austin. And I had no idea just how "getting going on it" my friend was. He was having a good time out there, chatting with folks about his aquatic product. I purchased a couple combo packs and vamoosed forthwith. The first time I tried the weed, I didn't rinse it, and I just snacked on it. It tasted a bit too salty, but that was also kind of interesting because it reminded me of being at the beach! Later on, I found out he was selling via Wheatsville, so I purchased a package from there. What I like about the way he packages his stuff is this: 1) there is plenty of veggie goodness in there; I snack on it by myself and by itself, and it's a very filling salad; you may want to use it as two or three portions for a more varied salad or soup 2) the packaging is made of bio-plastic, so there's no question of how to dispose of it; no matter what, it's just going to break down out there in a not-so-bad way My later snackings on the seaweed have been improved in my opinion because I've started lightly rinsing the product before tasting. With just a hint of saltiness, you can really appreciate the texture and inherent flavor of the plant. YUM!

I know Daily Juice has them, and I heard Wheatsville too. Honestly, the guy who sells this stuff is a genius. Like a modern day Renaissance man, this guy does it all. C'mon, he's like a mad scientist farming at his small headquarters (which I hope he calls his lair) and bringing it fresh to all of us. Almost like a sea weed Jesus. Farmers markets are supposed to be welcoming, family-friendly spaces where local vendors, farmers, nonprofits, faith groups, and community members can come together safely and respectfully. Unfortunately, I witnessed something that made the environment feel anything but welcoming. There was a small religious group with a table at the market, and as someone passed by, they shouted offensive racial and religious slurs at the men working the table. It was completely uncalled for. Rather than engaging in any kind of respectful conversation, this person chose to be hateful and intimidating in a public community space. I understand that the organizers may not be able to identify or remove every person who behaves this way, but I do think the market should be more proactive about making its expectations clear. A farmers market should feel safe for everyone, including vendors and community organizations that may be more likely to face harassment. Clear signage, public reminders, or stronger policies against hate speech and intolerance would go a long way. I hope the organizers take this seriously and make it clear that racism, religious intolerance, and harassment are not acceptable at this market. The community deserves a space that truly feels supportive, inclusive, and safe for all.

It's on the smaller side compared to some of the massive city markets, but it packs in a great lineup of local vendors selling fresh produce, artisan foods, and handmade crafts. The setting itself is really cool, tucked into the creative community spaces of Springdale General. Parking is pretty easy and free, which makes just popping in for a quick browse or coffee stress-free.

Cars zoom past like they're running away for their lives, but I risked my life for the giant squirrel statue sitting on the side of the road. What is this thing and what is the store attached to it? I had to see. Birthday weekend energy. Inside, the first thing that hits you is that massive pecan scented candle filling the whole store. They did this on purpose. It feels like a cozy Hallmark movie. The place smells delightful and that scent makes you want to buy something. Makes you ready to sample everything in sight. You deserve this. The store has everything: pecan pies, pecan candy, shelled/unshelled pecans, jams, jellies, hot sauces, toys, Texas branded/themed everything...you name it. It's all specialty, all cute, and all priced like it. I grabbed my niece two grenade-shaped hot sauces from "The General" brand because they were trendy and hilarious. But YIKES...Fifteen dollars each. Why, why, WHYYYYYYYY???? I gently reminded myself that Christmas is coming and delusion is part of the season. The staff was unbelievably friendly. They nudged you to sample this, try that, taste this. But beware because that southern hospitality will have you spending money you know you shouldn't or know you don't have. Once the total in my head started climbing, I called it and marched to the register before I got reckless. So what is this Green Molly business all about? PECAN BUTTER based "Farm-To-Plate Sandwiches"! The peanut butter of the south Pecan Butter is a great alternative to peanut butter for those with peanut allergies (like my niece so sad for a child to be deprived of a PBJ - and with Pecan it is still a PBJ:) The menu is mostly PB based sandwiches like the Classic with strawberry jam and witty named Elvis with banana and the Willie Nelson with turkey bacon added to the Elvis and there is a James Brown that involves chocolate and strawberry. Also on the menu is Grilled Cheese a Veggie Sandwich and an Egg Sandwich (cheddar tomato & bacon fritatta) that sounds amazing. Also Pecan Butter Cookies and specials like Bison Chili and Pecan Butter by the jar of course. They also have Gluten Free sandwiches.
