A hidden gem in Delhi, NY. For me large box stores are overwhelming. Good Cheap Food holds a secret for my success as a consumer and shopper. Walking in on the right are organic fruits, veggies, herbs and other goodies; to the left are oils, assorted pantry goods from all cultures ( rice noodles, udon, chutneys); potatoes, garlics, onions, shallots and so on. Freezers are filled with local and out-sourced dairy products. Frozen items: frozen whole trout caught my eye. Fresh teas, dried herbs/spices as needed (I bought dill) . Granolas from local mills, cereals, grains by the pound , different types of rice, milks and the list goes on. Dry goods , natural cleaning goods, dried fruits, books. It is amazing. Going to the other side they serve coffee, hot soup, daily pulled pork, pulled beef and pulled mushroom with a roll. This is the treat side - cookies, chocolate covered almonds, raisins, and so on. Crackers all types. All natural self care products. So much more than this list. My needs as a shopper brings me here regularly, needing help reading the labels negotiating the environment. (Where is this or how do I measure this because the store offers products in bulk. My dill for example. ) People are so nice and friendly. read more

Fantastic selection of both local and imported specialty foods. Everything from spices to local meats to imported cheeses. They had items that I only thought could be ordered online or found in big city specialty food stores. The staff were all very friendly. Nice soup selection; I believed there are three daily selections, all freshly made. Also tons of great gift items. I wouldn't call it cheap food but given the quality I'd call it good value. read more

It's not cheap. The bulk stuff is fairly priced, but most other stuff is ridiculous - $5.75 for a half gallon of milk (organic) and $7lb for Organic Valley brand butter last time I checked - that's highway robbery. The fresh food looks ok most of the time, but the place itself is kinda grubby, dimly lit, pack-rat looking. Seems like they could just do a lot more with the place. They have a small selection of gifts, postcards, books etc in the back. There's also usually a rack of hideous, overpriced old-lady 'earthy' clothes. Of course, being the only health food store in the area helps them keep their business. It's too bad these kinds of standards can survive when there's little to no competition. read more

Good Cheap Food is in the same building as Quarter Moon Cafe in beautiful downtown Delhi, NY. In fact the owner of the store, Faiga, is the mother of the owner of Quarter Moon. Conspiracy? I'll leave that for you to decide. Seriously though, GCF is the best, okay the only, health food store in Delhi. And though the food is hardly "cheap," it is fresh and good. They carry all the fresh organic things you need for a Slow Food feast. Fresh veggies, small farm cheeses, fresh fish from NYC, local micro brews, world foods, bulk herbs and nuts...whatever you need. They even have a great personal care section for all your organic and natural hygiene needs. The staff is great and totally willing to help you find what you need, even going to the length of special ordering it for you. Check them out on your next drive through the Catskills. read more

For a place that claims to be enlightened and holistic, the staff is the rudest I've encountered. I've seen employees bickering, customers being told "I'm too busy to help you right now." It boasts "cheap" food, however the prices are far from inexpensive with a very limited offering of items. My family has supported this place for over 2 decades. And it's been a bummer to see how "cheap" the treatment of it's locals has become. Avoid "Good Cheap Food" - there's nothing good about false goodness. read more

Very nice little shop with a great variety or organic this's and that's at a price that more a gentry than commoner could afford with any consistency. The bottled spices and associated dry goods are fun to peruse through and if you open the frozen cases, you may come across a $75 all natural and organic steak...cryovaced to marbleized, rock-hard perfection. "Good", "Food" it is, but "Cheap"...it ain't, however I have to admit that my high marks take into consideration the beautiful woman with blond dreads that seems to work there. the cutest health food store i have been to, hands down! the setup is easy, manageable & the lighting is very good. if you're into eating locally, COME TO GOOD CHEAP FOOD!! not only do they sell fresh fruits & veggies grown locally, they have a small health & beauty section that holds everything from essential oils to locally made makeup & lotions.
