But that shouldn't have been surprising, as he began the trip - at the dock -by telling us how "brown tide" has killed all the grass and ruined all the fishing!!. "Mosquito lagoon is totally decimated!" He said. Funny, that's not mentioned on his website!!! If he is so resigned to there being NO FISH in his grounds - then he needs to stop taking peoples hard earned money to NOT catch them! Please please please- do not choose Capt. Karty unless you are prepared to waste money on an a truly sub-par experience with an Unprofessional, unskilled, poorly equipped guide who EXPECTS to catch nothing and is entirely un-empathetic when he takes $400 of your dollars to do just that. read more

We did a very enjoyable 4hr fishing trip during our vacation this year with Cpt. Karty. Honestly, this was my first time doing a fishing charter, so I wanted to stay inland to avoid being sea sick. We met at Riverbreeze Park with (3) anglers, at 7am and hopped in the prepared boat. We instantly approached a shrimp boat and Karty bought 3 dozen live shrimp. Then we were off on a 25 minute boat ride across the beautiful mosquito bay. He knew exactly where he was going. We stopped short of our target area and slowly pushed our way in as to not scare the fish. After surveying (while fishing) the area, Karty advised that there was a school of black drum in the area and he would get us on top of them. And he did. The school was moving throughout the day and we were always on their tails. The biggest catch of the day was 24" black drum; it was the biggest fish I've ever caught in my life. His boat comfortably fit (3) anglers, (4) would not be a problem either. This was a major reason why I chose Cpt. Karty in the first place. Definitely the correct decision. We saw another charter out there with only (2) anglers and the guide; they weren't able to move around like we could. We actually fished for about 4.5 hours because in the last 45min. we caught (7) of those (8) redfish. Very nice of him, and I had a good sense of respect from him doing this for us. Catches of the day: (1) trout, (1) black drum, (2) stingray, (1) cat fish & (8) redfish. Keepers were the trout and black drum. We arrived back to the launch and Karty promptly filleted the keepers and shook our hands. What a great experience! We will spread the word and absolutely visit Karty again! read more

I have fish all over the east coast - 4th visit to the area in 3 years. Karty was one of the worst guides I have ever experienced. The receptionist confirmed shallow water site fishing which was not even close to Karty's aim, which entailed a limited plan in an overfished area with other guides and locals. I appreciated Karty's cander in describing the Indian R. fishery as pretty poor these days. I will not return to the area and certainly not with this charlatan. read more

My Dad found Captain Karty on a previous solo trip to New Smyrna and thoroughly enjoyed his fishing service. This year we planned on fishing while vacationing so we called Captain Karty a few weeks out to book a day or two. Fortunately, he had an opening! We hit the docks early and Karty was waiting in the water for us. He knows whats running and has all the gear ready to go. As the previous reviewer mentioned he rolls in stealth mode as to not disturb the fish. We hooked some large reds and sea trout. Apparently it wasn't the best day for fishing but I didn't really notice as I was smiling the whole time. The scenery is beautiful so conversation was sparse most of the morning. This is easily the highlight of my trip and know we will return as soon as possible as you will not be disappointed. Capt Karty is the best site fishing guide for redfish on the Mosquito Lagoon. he fishes in "stealth mode" approaching the fish silently, tells you exactly where to cast and "fish on!" He is the only guide that I use when I fish this area and i would highly recommend that you try him. You will come back time after time! read more

After reading all of the positive reviews for Captain Karty's fishing services, I was giddy. I had been on two other professional guides on the Mosquito Lagoon and had extremely good experiences, so I expected that to be bested by this apparent Mecca of the fishing guides. I booked a 6 hour trip for 6 people total, and so we had two boats. We only caught 8 fish total among all of us, 3 of which Karty himself caught, and none of them were of any notable size. We didn't catch any Redfish either, which really disappointed me. He kept using the excuse, "wind is shifting, fish were here yesterday, maybe we'll have luck somewhere else", but it was the same dull action everywhere we went. I don't want excuses, you're a professional guide and we're paying you a lot of money, put us on fish! Not only was the fishing terrible, Karty himself was boring and at times condescending. He didn't seem overly sympathetic that we didn't catch much- no apologies or discounts, he still wanted his full price. He even had the nerve to tell me that his wife misquoted the price, and I SHOULD have paid more. Unbelievable. read more

Had a great day on the water with Captain Karty today. The bite was a little slow, but Karty put us on the fish. My wife almost had her first inshore slam by first bagging a really nice trout and shortly after bringing a beautiful snook to the boat.
