lack of clean lines on front plate

Albert is a friendly like-able guy but...the product we received was very disappointing - it was bad. We opted for a modern horizontal modern gate with clean lines. The quote process was efficient. I paid the 1/3 of the quote and we were told in six weeks our security gate would be installed and it was installed close to the date. About 7 weeks after the deposit. Here's a summary of failures: Fabrication: The main gate has a vertical bow in it. There is welding slag from the welds left all over, never cleaned up. The welds look like they didn't penetrate the pieces properly. The joints weren't cleaned with a grinder. The gate is meant to be sleek and modern and it is curvy and unfinished. The manufacturing looks as if a high schooler made the gate in shop class. Or like a used gate was installed. The photos Al shared with us were not representative of the gate we received...by a long shot. Finish/Painting: Our gate was galvanized and painted. The installers beat up the gate during transportation, but Albert mentioned all ironworks companies do this and touch up on site. There were significant drips from the galvanized dipping (which is actually not Gomez as they take it in). They then finished painting it with Rustoleum from a spray can. You will need to have your new gate repainted. Our paint looks splotchy. Installation: There is a bow in the front plane of the installation which is easily seen in the photos. We requested 3 doorbell buttons and they weren't fabricated. The installers told me they needed to come back. They eyeballed most of the cuts they needed to make on site. They had to come back to fix it. They tried to remedy the issues but we are still left with a bowed gate that I need to have a professional grind, sand and repaint or have replaced all together. This is not a cheap gate. It's permanent. I regret having chosen Gomez Iron Works.

Handrails

I can't say enough good things about Albert and his crew at Gomez Iron Works. They installed the hand rails back in 2020 and recently installed the driveway gate. Both great quality products and service and install was great both times as well. Highly recommend!

Look closely, see the black paint underneath? Definitely not galvanized and were take offs from another job they painted trying to fool me.

Update : Al came to my property and spent a total of 5 minutes barely even looked at the crap work his guys did( probably cuz he already knows how crappy the work was). And instead of saying I'll make you a new set of rails and mount them the way they were supposed to be mounted ( they mounted them on old wood i stead of the concrete) he tells me the find somebody else to do the rails and he'll come back and take these down when the new ones go up. This was his best solution to the garbage work they did. And this was supposed to be worth $9,000 get the fuck out of here!

We worked with Patrick Conor - He was great, and so easy to work with! All communication was very clear, and they showed up promptly for the two appointments. Patrick was also helpful in giving us feedback on a design for the railings, one interior and one exterior. We have a 1936 Spanish style house, and we are very pleased with how the railings look in our home. In addition, there was an error at the paint store for the color of the interior rail. Even though this was NOT their mistake, there was no additional charge for the extra work this caused, and without complaint, they took the railing back to the shop and repainted it with the correct color. Thank you Patrick, we really appreciate your kindness and professionalism!

These guys did a great job. Very responsive and on time. The job was done ahead of schedule. Not to mention very respectful. A fair price in comparison to other quotes

Excellent work on a driveway fence! A few things I really appreciated:…read more 1. Very efficient planning and communication 2. During the free consult Alejandro was clearly much more engaged in actually solving my problems. Example: the fence needed to be low enough to see over as I back out of my driveway, for safety reasons. Alejandro held a tape measure at various heights and various points as I backed out. It seemed obvious to him that this was the right thing to do, but no other contractor I met with did this. 3. Construction was done in a single day (7 hours). 4. Sometimes I work with contracting firms where an attentive sales person asks about your project, and then a separate team (plus an annoying game of telephone) comes to actually work on the project. Not with Maldonado! At least for now Alejandro is not only figuring out the design with you but actually building the fence 5. Alejandro made several AI renderings showing the different options, which were quite helpful. I'm surprised more people aren't doing this 6. Above all I got the sense that Alejandro cares deeply about doing great work. We would absolutely work with them again

We went with Marquez Fencing because they were very knowledgeable and responsive. Their team came on time, answered all our questions, got our feedback and approval before proceeding with any changes, and was done in a day. Our fence and gate look great, exactly as the mockup Rick provided. The materials were great also. We now have a higher and sturdier retaining wall. We will use them again for our fence on the other side of the house once we are ready. Highly recommend.

My Project: 2 Gates, Side Fencing, Board on Board 6 Feet, Metal Posts Upgrade, Con Heart Picket…read moreUpgrade I believe this company can build a great wood fence with wood posts. They work efficiently and their pricing is competitive. I didn't even mind that they ate a persimmon from my tree without asking! However, I cannot recommend them for wood fences with metal posts. 1. Insufficient Attention to Metal Post Protection Metal posts are an investment intended to provide long-term durability. The installation did not demonstrate the level of care I expected. A. Inadequate corrosion prevention - The exposed metal edges required appropriate zinc-rich protection to help prevent corrosion since they cut the pre-galvanized, powder-coated posts in the field. This was discussed and agreed upon beforehand, but the crew did not arrive with zinc spray. I supplied my own can, but the crew did not follow the manufacturer's application instructions. They cut the tops, bottoms, and even both ends of the posts. I understand that fieldwork involves practical time constraints, but protecting exposed metal edges from moisture-related corrosion is particularly important. B. Poorly cut post ends - Cuts were uneven, preventing the post caps from sitting flush against the metal posts and leaving visible gaps exposed to the elements. C. Exposed screw hole - The crew made a screw entry hole but subsequently removed the screw, leaving the hole exposed. Ideally, they should have left the screw in place, or even better, use another post since this was their error. D. Incomplete treatment and early signs of rust - 13/15 posts were untreated with zinc and show signs of rust three days after installation. Hopefully, bottom cuts were treated. 2. Communication and Project Coordination Once the contract was signed, communication was slow for a fast-paced project. Responses often took more than two days. Lack of confirmation: I agreed to an October 29 installation date but never received confirmation that the crew would be arriving. I reached out to verify the appointment. They never responded to my October 23 question about how to prepare the area, leaving me to guess what to do beforehand. I ultimately decided against the staining upgrade because my questions about it went unanswered. Last-minute timeline changes: The estimated duration changed from two to one day without prior notification. As a result, I had to communicate my technical concerns the morning of construction rather than discussing and addressing them beforehand. Contractor should consider communicating important project milestones, such as installation date and 811 utility marking, so customers know what to expect. 3. Workmanship and Contract Verification A. Workmansip Example - The crew cut a hole in the pressure-treated lumber for my underground sump pump PVC pipe without first verifying the pipe's actual position. The pipe had shifted, so they cut the hole in the wrong location. They cut a second hole and covered the original mistake with a board. B. The contractor did not add the 3 inches of gravel specified in the contract. When asked, the contractor pointed to the gravel on the truck. I later reviewed my pictures and videos to verify that gravel was never installed. If something is specified in the contract, it should either be completed or discussed with the customer before being omitted. The Pros 1. Fast quoting: They sent an estimator quickly, and the quote was detailed and highly competitive compared with the 4-5 other estimates. 2. Quick scheduling: I was scheduled within two weeks of signing. 3. Efficient execution: The crew arrived promptly, completed the project in one day, and did an adequate job cleaning up. 4. Accommodating: They used wet-mixed concrete at my request, addressed my concerns about cantilevering with a three-post design, and constructed a kickboard style board on board gate. (They advised there would be no concerns with sag when asked.) A few things prospective customers may want to consider: 1. Aesthetics: Don't expect flush screws or nails or flawless lumber. There will be minor scuffs, imperfections, and small missing chunks of wood. Be aware that nicks to powder-coated metal posts may require touch-up work. 2. Concrete and cleanup: Requesting wet-mixed concrete does not mean the crew won't pour additional dry concrete into the hole and mix it further. Post-hole dirt / debris are not included in their debris removal. If you care where they dump it, then let them know. 3. Utilities: The crew will use your outdoor water connection, so consider disconnecting it beforehand if you have concerns. 4. Point of contact: Direct your questions and concerns to the person who provided your estimate. I raised concerns with an employee in person, but my feedback did not appear to make its way back to my estimator. I will update if they reach out or any changes occur.

His verbal prices for some items (e..g,. $500 for just checking out sprinklers on a 1000 sq foot home, $750 per month for regular lawn maintenance on a 3800 sq foot lot) seemed extremely high. But I did want him to do a landscape repair. He said he would send over a quote within the week but never did. When I emailed him a week later, he said he was awarded some work so wouldn't be able to do anything until the end of the year. I think it would have been appropriate to let me know as soon as he knew he was going to bail on me. The lack of follow through and presence after the initial meeting seems like a common theme in many of the negative reviews. I'd go for someone else who demonstrates knowledge AND follow-through.

Gerald came out to estimate our back fence which conveniently (not) decided to lean over into our neighbor's yard. We accepted the estimate, did one change order (to add extra feet), and settled on a construction date. Today, Gerald, Saul, and Reuben arrived on time and with everything ready to go. Saul and Reuben are amazing! They worked tirelessly all day, communicated so well, and were cheerful throughout. It was wonderful to have them around. I couldn't believe that they were able to put in a 2' retaining wall and 25' of fence in one day - so much digging! When they left, everything was clean and nice. I'm including a photo, but we are the ones who stacked stuff in front of the fence to keep the dog from getting into the setting concrete. Gerald from RB Fence came to look at the job and provide an estimate. His quote was very detailed, much more so than any of the others we received, and it was the only quote to include a Split Invoice Addendum form for dividing the cost with our neighbor, enabling us each to pay separately and having the amount of each share clearly documented. (This was particularly important because we agreed on an uneven split.) RB Fence was the only quote that came this way, and it really was a selling point, because it made things easier for us. On the day the work was to be done, the crew arrived on time and immediately got to work. We were surprised by how quickly they got the old fence down and the new one up. Gerald came by partly through the job to make sure we didn't have any questions and things were on track. I appreciated that he took responsibility in that way.
