After starting out so badly (the office wasn't open at our appointment time and we were called back…read morewhen we were halfway back to home), it turned out pretty good. It was my husbands visit and he says this is a most thorough dermatologist. I'll be honest, the main focus of this place was cosmetic, Botox and the like. My husband needed really excellent dermatological skills, not beautifying. So Dr. G came through for him. We left happy. I can see where some people might be put off by Dr. G, because he is very efficient and to the point. My husband appreciated this approach because he too is medical and could talk the lingo.

I truly wish I could be writing a glowing review of the Texas Institute of Dermatology and Dr…read more Ghohestani, but unfortunately my experience ended in disappointment, frustration, and what I believe to be unethical and misleading medical practices. I initially contacted the clinic to inquire about treatment for facial spider veins. After reviewing their website, I felt confident moving forward. Their page clearly lists treatment for spider veins under 5cm at $399-$450 per session or a package of 3 treatments for $999. I was fully prepared to pay that amount if recommended. At my first appointment, I was charged a $200 consultation fee, which was expected. Dr. Ghohestani examined the red mark under my eye and confirmed it was a spider vein that could be treated with IPL. He then told me they were offering a special 3-treatment package that day for $699. I agreed and paid $716.48 (after tax). He even stated that while I might only need one treatment, we'd go ahead with all three to ensure the vein didn't return. I scheduled my follow-up accordingly, with the understanding that two more treatments were included. Due to a work conflict, I rescheduled the second appointment, making sure to confirm with the clinic that it was okay to come a bit later than two weeks post-treatment. They approved the change. When I returned, expecting to receive my second laser session, I was surprised to be asked for another $200 visit fee. I questioned this, as I believed I had already paid for a 3-treatment plan. Dr. Ghohestani came into the room and complimented how well the area had healed but said I no longer needed additional treatments. I reminded him that we had already discussed continuing all three treatments regardless, since I had prepaid. Shockingly, he denied ever offering a 3-treatment package, claimed I had only paid for a single session, and told me this appointment was just a follow-up. When I insisted otherwise and showed them their own website listing the 3-treatment option, Dr. Ghohestani left the room and never returned. A young receptionist was sent in to tell me that "the website isn't always accurate" and that the doctor had created a "custom plan" for me. According to her, I had received a "deal" by paying $699 for one treatment -- which contradicts their own published pricing of $399-$450 per session. I requested a refund, stating that I was misled and did not receive what I paid for. Instead, they offered to let me pay an additional $300 to receive the other two treatments -- essentially asking me to pay full price again. I declined and left feeling taken advantage of, disrespected, and deceived. As a Texas business owner myself, I value integrity and transparency with clients -- something this practice sorely lacks. I will be reporting this experience to the Texas Medical Board, and I strongly encourage others to be extremely cautious before seeking treatment here. The way I was misled and then dismissed is unacceptable, especially in a medical setting.

I understand that appointments can run behind, but an update would have been appreciated so I could plan accordingly. When I called the office to ask about status, they informed me there were two people before me which would have required me to stay in the virtual call for likely an hour and a half after my appointment time. I rescheduled for later that same day and was placed on hold for the intake process. The hold extended past my scheduled appointment time, and I had an upcoming work call, so I was unable to continue waiting. When the line was answered, I was told that i was transferred to wrong place and was then informed that the doctor was still running behind. I also had concerns about my experience during a blood draw at this office. Before the procedure, I informed the person drawing my blood that I have a history of passing out during blood draws. She responded that I "would be fine" and told me to sit in the chair. Given that I had specifically raised a concern about fainting, I would have expected that information to be taken more seriously and appropriate precautions to be considered, such as allowing me to lie down during the procedure. I was told that the clinic was being cleaned so there were no beds available. I had informed the office of this prior to this scheduled time, so if that was the case, why was I scheduled during cleaning? Following the blood draw, I developed significant bruising on my arm, which has never been my experience at other facilities. My concern with the appointments is not that the doctor was running late. I understand that delays happen in healthcare. My concern is the lack of communication after an extended wait, particularly when patients have taken time away from work or other commitments. Similarly, my concern with the blood draw is not simply the bruising, but the response to a disclosed history of fainting and whether appropriate steps were taken to reduce that risk. Overall, I believe there are opportunities to improve patient communication, consideration for patients' time, and how patient safety concerns are addressed.
