Mariah-Belle Manor Kennel - Maisey feeling happy again!

Rachann the owner and her manager Michelle are great working with and communicating. When Max passed recently at 11 due to cancer they sent us a very nice card that meant so much. Maisey (4) has only ever known life with Mac by her side. This caused nervousness, confidence issues , and upset tummies for a few weeks. They were nice taking her up day camp with no notice and seeing that she got a bland broth and rice diet to help. Now her new little sister Cammy (10 months old) a rescue from North Carolina is getting her shots and stuff to clear the way for visits. Everyone from their staff can't wait to meet her. What my wife and I love is that they love our puppies nearly as much as we do. I wanted to say thanks so much for your care and compassion with Max! It made an impossibly hard time a bit easier knowing that he impacted their lives and to know they were sad as well. If you anywhere near Mt Airy and need day camp or boarding it's worth the extra ride. We pass 3 places and the way and had multiple bad experiences before we found Mariah Belle. Thank you and Regards! John & Kaye

This is the best place ever! Look no further! Fun, fun, fun!…read more Based on my vet's personal recommendation, I've been taking my high-energy Vizsla here for over a year since he was a pup. Our neighbors all trust Mariah-Belle with their dogs too. My dog loves the Day Camp activities. I've also boarded my 11 year old terrier and young Vizsla for long weekends. The staff catered to both their needs of spoiling and medicating my older dog and playing with my young dog. The owner and staff all truly love dogs! It shows in everything they do! You can really tell when your dogs jump out of the car and run to the staff! They truly care! Another reviewer commented on an illness outbreak earlier in the summer. If you take your dog to a park or a kennel, you are taking a risk. My young dog did pick up a virus only once in the last year. It wasn't kennel cough. And my older dog didn't catch the virus. It stunk to see him sick, but we humans pick up various colds from time to time. That said, I've never seen an owner be more diligent in resolving a problem. The staff immediately called to check on my dog. The owner called all the local vets to identify the type of virus and then immediately implemented a specific cleaning regimen to kill that particular virus. I've been kenneling my dogs over the last 25 years at a number of places. I trust Mariah-Belle Manor! My dogs love absolutely love going to Mariah-Belle!

We were really hopeful after seeing all the positive reviews for Harvest Moon that this would be a…read moregood experience. We received great communication prior to boarding our dog, and were assured that all of the kennels were 5' by 10' and that we would be able to bring our dog's crate that he is extremely attached to and sleeps in every night with blankets covering it and that he would be able to sleep there during his stay. We were told both by the emails we received and publicly visible on the website that we would receive picture updates each day and we felt like this would be a great fit for us, as we rarely leave our dog overnight anywhere. We made sure to let them know that our boy can struggle warming up to people at first, and we were assured it would all be okay. I verified again at drop-off that we would like as many photos and updates as possible and that we were very nervous to leave him. We also explained that his ID tags are on his harness that he was wearing and that he needs to wear it the whole time he is there. Also at drop off, we were told that the first night, our dog would be in a smaller kennel and that his crate wouldn't fit, but the second night they would be able to use it for him to sleep in. We were a tad confused because we had been told that all the kennels were 5' by 10', and his crate was only 3' by 4'. But we disregarded it as they said they would cover the door to his crate at night for him. We were gone for three whole days, and received only one photo the whole time with zero update on what he was doing or how he was. We only received the photo after emailing them in the middle of our trip to see if he was doing okay because we hadn't heard anything. We did not receive any updates after that. At pick up, our dog was not wearing his harness and we were told that they couldn't figure it out even though we requested it be kept on him the entire time. We asked if he had been able to sleep in his crate at all, and they said no and that they decided it wouldn't work because they wanted him to have room to walk around at night (even though he sleeps in the crate with the door closed every night at home and we had explained that to them). We're still not sure why he couldn't have had his crate in the kennel at night as we were promised and as we requested. After pick-up, our dog began barking out the window from the car at every person or animal or car we passed, which is extremely unlike him. He seemed very overwhelmed. Overall, we were pretty disappointed and don't feel as if we got what we paid for. We also paid extra for them to take him on three nature walks and were never told if they actually did. We spoke to another family at pickup and they mentioned that they had received multiple photos each day, so we were just confused and to how we fell through the cracks. We are thankful for the one picture we received and that the staff complimented how well he did, but we're still not sure what he did the whole time he was there or how it really went. He came home alive and appears to be safe and fed, so that is why we gave two stars. We will be using a private dog sitter in the future.

Brandi & Perry were amazing! Highly recommend working with them…read more We adopted a one year old mixed breed, Tuck, a few months ago. He's very sweet but started to get rambunctious to the point that my remote work felt challenging. He also started jumping or freezing when he saw other dogs on walks, and he occasionally barked or growled and men. We weren't sure if it was the start of aggressive behavior or just the result of a shelter dog that hasn't been exposed. After doing our research, we decided to do the 3 week behavior modification board and train program. We were really impressed from beginning to end. They shared a ton of information upfront, walked us through their facility (we opted to drop him off) and sent pictures and updates every evening. It became clear right away that they both have a very deep understanding of dogs, as well as a real respect and love for them. Tuck loved them! The best part was the "transition" day when Perry brought Tuck back and spent the day teaching us everything they've worked on together. We are first time dog owners so generally going in pretty blind. Perry gave us a 101 on dogs and the importance of clear and consistent communication. He talked through all of the layers of training and how/why it is effective. We felt this part was SO helpful for us to understand how to be better owners. Then we walked Tuck around the neighborhood with Perry guiding us and then spent time addressing indoor behaviors too. He was flexible and stayed until we felt comfortable with everything. This is a long review so the TLDR: finding a trainer is a big decision and investment so we wanted to get it right. Brandi & Perry were really incredible and beyond our expectations!! Truly worth every penny! Tuck has been doing really great at home and outside since being home. I've been able to work full days with him holding "place" on his cot, which would have been unheard of before!

Pebbles (blue heeler, 1.5 years old) would never listen to me, would not sit or lay still, and had a lot of other obedience issues that caused her to be stressed or confused. She was a TOUGH dog to train and I was concerned I couldn't find the solution for her to get basic concepts. This view has completely changed since working with RSK9's 3 week program. I would HIGHLY recommend them and their methods - you can tell they genuinely love working with dogs and it's made a huge difference in giving my dog the chance to find real rest at home. They send DAILY updates with photos and videos which was so nice. This isn't a regular class or something you just pay for; it's truly an investment that you and your dog will be using for the time you get to share together. Side note: it's worth doing 3 weeks versus 2 weeks. At the 2 week mark is when Pebbles really started to understand her marks and cues. From here there is so much more that can be refined and Brandi/Perry really capitalize on that threshold being crossed!

Pup Scouts Dog Care

So far, so good. I…read morelearned about Pup Scouts Dog Care because I saw it from the window of a nearby gym. Since I was planning to go on an international trip very soon, I decided to stop by and inquire about its boarding services. I thought Henry, the owner, did a wonderful job explaining the ins and outs of Pup Scouts' boarding services during our impromptu meeting. He even provided a quick tour of the facility. While the boarding situation seems pretty standard, I was impressed to learn that it is a cage-/crate-free environment. Prior to booking a stay, the dog must complete 10 hours of of doggy daycare. I was not surprised by this stipulation. However, I was shocked (in a positive way) to learn that the 10 hours of doggy daycare is free. While Pup Scouts is a business, this showed me that they are interested in ensuring that the dog is a good fit rather than just focusing on profits. Online booking makes things pretty easy for reserving a spot. In most cases, I have been able to reserve slots for doggie daycare a few hours before dropping off the dog (e.g., booking in the morning for an afternoon stay). In terms of price, I think Pup Scouts is on par (if not slightly lower) to compared to other places in the area. While I've met only a few members of the staff, both persons were very professional and seemed to really care about working with dogs. During every instance of dropping off and picking up my pup, 1-2 customers would highlight how much they enjoyed working with Pup Scouts.

Pup Scouts was incredible. They ticked all of the boxes - no crates, 24/7 staff supervision, flexible drop off and pick up - like ANY TIME. Henry was so friendly and understanding. From the start - he answered all of my questions at the meet & greet, and did a wonderful job of introducing other dogs to our little one. He was methodical and thoughtful in integrating her into the established "pack". He is incredibly gentle and affectionate and she took to him immediately. All of the staff were incredible. Having a live web-cam to check in on our little fur-baby at any time was so helpful in keeping our spirits calm and reassuring us that she was being well cared for. Pup Scouts is fantastic!

I wanted to address some of the things the owner said to my husband and me yesterday…read more She implied that I was lying on Sammy's ( my Yorkie's) intake papers. I do take offense at this. I reread what I had written on the papers. I do not lie. The information was accurate. Sammy is a 5 1/2 pound - 1 1/2 year old Yorkie. The owner complained that Sammy was digging when left outside alone. (Yorkies like to dig in the dirt!) The owner commented that my puppy didn't like to be alone. On the paper I wrote he is very friendly. She was not at all sympathetic; that we had recently lost our beloved eight-year old Yorkie, Dundee, Sammy's best friend about a month ago.) Due to that, yes, I agreed with the owner, Sammy does not like to be alone. I do not find this as a fault, but rather an endearing quality. We were appalled that the owner would put a 5 1/2 pound Yorkie in an open field/pen with no covering without any regard to possible hawks. This is unacceptable. Has she not ever seen a hawk swoop down and pick up a small animal? It happens very quickly! So no, Sammy has never been left outside alone nor should he be. And finally the owner added that our puppy was not welcome back to Chateau Barkingham kennel. This was a bit beside the point because in our minds, we already had decided he would never be brought back to this establishment. The owner is not at all versed in dealing with puppies or very small dogs. When we returned home we talked to Sammy's Veterinarian. Our Vet was shocked at the "faults" found in Sammy. All ridiculous. Best of luck with your business, but don't expect any positive reviews to your kennel from us!

My poodle came back brushed (not sure how managed that one) and my very anxious dogs came back untraumatized by the whole thing. It is very out in the middle of nowhere, but that just means it is quieter. The owner is way in to the dog whisperer school of dog obedience, I am clearly not...but if she wants to fight the inevitable, more power to her. Every time we go on vacation, this is the first call we make.
