Oh my goodness, that looks absolutely delicious! That's quite the meal, a perfect balance of carbs,…read moreprotein, and veggies, which is something I admire.

One evening in Berkeley, California, out to dinner with some friends at a Korean restaurant, I…read moreshared that I was heading to Scotland in July of 2019 and asked if anybody had been and had any recommendations for places to go. Probing why I was going a little, they got out of me I am of the Gordon Clan of Aberdeenshire, a Scotland of Old clan. One of my friends exclaimed, "Gordon!" He paused, looked me directly in the eyes and said, "You know we're rivals right?!" He is Nate James Lindsey. A member of the Lindsey Clan, one of the Gordon Clan's rival clans in Scotland of Old. Once we addressed our rival ancestries, he recommended to me The Baked Potato Shop in Edinburgh, the city I was flying into/out of for my first trip not only to Scotland, but to Europe as well. Well, I might as well go I thought, how bad can a rival clan recommendation be. The night I arrived in Edinburgh, 5 July 2019, I entered The Baked Potato Shop and was greeted by a friendly worker. After looking over the menu, I went with a baked potato loaded with vegan chilli and vegan Macsween haggis. After placing my order, paying, and getting the baked potato I thought the only thing missing from my first ever evening in Scotland was bagpipe music. No sooner had I thought that than I heard the sounds of bagpipes wafting across the cobbled lane out front of the Shop. Across the cobbled lane I went, lured by the wail of the bagpipes. After listening for a bit and providing a tip I returned to the guest house I was staying the night at. The food was delicious and filled my travel-tired belly. The haggis was the first I had of any kind, vegan or non-vegan, and it was an immediate favorite. Offset from my departure time zone by 8 hours, I went to sleep soon after eating. I woke up early the next morning ready to go. Turns out the baked potato and toppings cured my jet lag in less than 24 hours, quite remarkable. What a way to end my first day in Scotland, a recommendation from a member of a rival Scotland of Old clan yields tasty food. I will however note that I am also of Irish descent, so I am still not sure what to make of the recommendation in light of the Irish Potato Famine... Ahhh, Scotland of Old lives on.

We started with a couple of their local draft beers, the chilaquiles(special) and the elote. The chilaquiles were delicious! Very flavorful but all the chips were quite soggy and a little thick. We also got a hot sauce on the side which was divine! It was spicy and had a great taste as well! The elote was sweet, juicy and the spices it was covered in were delicious! For our meals we got the steak and chorizo tacos, cauliflower tacos, Baja cod tacos and the pork carnitas tacos. All of the tacos were delicious! Again, the tortilla was a little thick, which was nice but it was falling apart a little. The cauliflower tacos already had a nice amount of spice to them. These were a great veg option for our vegetarian. The steak and chorizo tacos were interesting as it seems they were blended into a crispy pan fried patty and the sauce it came with was incredible. The cod tacos were my favorite! The fish was well seasoned, super crispy and very light! The sauce it was served with was rich abs tasty as well. I wasn't a fan of the pomegranate but that was my fault--should have ordered without it. They did not have any dessert. The service was also so great! The staff is very friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend!

They have good specials and we ordered their two taco special. The beef in the tacos was on the tough side and definitely could have been more tender. The service was slow despite us being the only people in the shop at the time and the waitress we had was not very friendly. The margarita was weak and watery. Overall this was a disappointing stop and I likely wouldn't come again.

For me, visiting a McDonald's is never exactly a proud moment. It usually means I'm a) drunk, b)…read morehungover or c) suffering a momentary lapse of self control and ruining my most recent attempts to be healthy. We've all been there, I'm sure. Thing is, McDonald's actually is good for those things and if that's what you're after then there's no shame in that. This branch is especially handy in that it's open 24 hours. It also has a drive-thru attached, although I've never used that facility so I can't properly comment on it. In spite of being a small, drive-thru branch they still do all of the major offers (so if you get one of those vouchers for a big mac and fries for £1.99 then go ahead, they'll accept it) and they do all the standard UK menu items, including the specials as they come and go. Food-wise it's the same as any other McDonald's. They can alter your items if you have any particular requirements and they almost always have a few Big Macs and McChicken Sandwiches ready to go as you walk in. If not, they're still pretty quick. Less popular items, such as specials, salads and deli sandwiches take a bit longer, but I'm pretty sure that's true everywhere. You can expect really long queues around dinner time and long-ish queues at lunch time over the weekends. I've only ever once failed to get a seat, though. Plus, the staff are quick enough and clearing the queue and if there's a wait for fries (or if you've ordered something less popular) they'll tell you to go take a seat and will bring it to you when it's ready. The toilets are kept pretty clean and the staff do a decent job of clearing the tables whenever they get chance. The WiFi is free too, so I could even imagine people working here during quieter hours. One very important thing though - don't get the coffee. It's the worst I've ever tasted. Just don't.
