Stayed here for three nights as part of a wedding party in June 2015. It was a gorgeous location,…read moreincredibly tranquil and perfect for an England countryside wedding. Staff was incredibly friendly and hospitable, grounds were very well maintained, and we had undisturbed sleep. Rooms: the bathrooms were updated with great water pressure and towel warmers. The bedroom was very spacious, had a cottage-like feel and was clean. My only complaint is the wifi was down for guests, though I did manage to get access to the reception's wifi, which was accessible only near reception. The grounds are beautiful, so it was nice to walk around in the mornings Meals: Breakfasts were included, which were delicious and very filling though I really only ordered one thing (smoked salmon with scrambled eggs) every morning. Wedding: While the wedding itself was not held here, the afternoon snacks, dinner and dancing portion were. What a magnificent place to hold everything - the room was beautifully set up and I loved that I could return to my room whenever I wanted. All I know is the bridge picked out a package and they seemingly arranged for most of the items. The dinner was so good; everyone was raving about it. Location: It was a short drive from the Northallerton station, so members of the wedding party would pick up arriving guests and we all left together in a big caravan. Very convenient and not in a big city, so it was a relaxed feel. Cannot recommend this place enough.

This hotel is in a beautiful location. You approach to it along a country road and then as you turn…read moreinto the drive you can see the Hotel ahead and it looks stunning, the grounds are really well maintained as you approach and on an evening its lit at the front which makes it look really welcoming. As its only a couple of miles out of town it makes a great venue for events, it can cater for large numbers such as for a wedding or for smaller groups or corporate events in a more intimate setting. The grounds make a really good backdrop for photographs. The bedrooms are sumptous and tastefully decorated and all of the main rooms have that old fashioned tasteful quality air. The food is good and not over priced or if you don't want a meal, you could just sit and have a quiet drink in the bar. The staff are always really welcoming and friendly.

As we were going for a ride on the Wensleydale Railway and we were early for the train we thoiught…read morewe would seek out some lunch. The first place we came across was The White Rose who proudly proclaimed that they did a carvery and that was enough for my partner to be happy. We parked in the car park and noted that it wasn't particularly busy. Inside the pub has been modernised and re-decorated and looked very nice. The pub was fairly quiet which surprised me. The girl behind the bar was smiling and cheerful and greeted us warmly. We ordered three carveries (without viewing the rest of the menu) and a pint of beer and two cokes came to a little over £30. We picked a place to sit which wasn't difficult as there were only about 6 people in the main pub area and about the same in the bright airy conservatory. Then we went to the carvery. There was a choice of beef, turkey and gammon and the server was happy for us to have more than one of the meats. He then asked if we wanted Yorkshires and stuffing and then we helped ourselves to the veg and gravy and sauces. There was a good selection of veg including carrots, cauliflower cheese and mashed swede. We sat back down and that's when I had a bit of an accident. The tables were too close to the bench seating so I tried to move it a bit and my drink spilled all over. The male staff member, possibly the landlord, quickly got a mop and cleared up the spilt liquid politely but without humour and didn't try to put us at our ease. I explained what had happened. He didn't comment. We discovered the veg were lukewarm. The meats were okay although my beef was a bit grisly. Nice enough meal but nothing terribly exciting. My daughter then had the most expensive dessert on the menu, chocolate scrapheap, which was like a brownie with bits of maltesers, dime bars etc in it. It looked lovely but was very dry and quite tasteless. There was nothing with it ie ice cream, cream or custard to moisten it a bit. The bit I was most surprised at though was that it contained nuts and there was nothing on the menu to indicate this. No problem to us but it could have had consequences for others. At £4.25 it was definitely overpriced. I wouldn't make a beeline for the place again but I wouldn't avoid it like the plague either.
