After a long afternoon of boring flatness of Big Ag and going through a dramatic search for gas in the middle of a cornfield the size of Mendocino County, I found myself in an Irish themed Nebraska town - O'Neill NE seemed to have a bit of society, with a half dozen or more hotels. I drove up to the one recommended by some locals but it looked from the outside to be a shabby, run down brick building. I turned back and ended up at The Elms Motel - I had a parking space in front of my door, HBO to watch True Blood (in 30 minutes!), a coin-op laundry room two doors over, and a grocery store just a hundred yards away (closing in 10 minutes!). I dropped my stuff, popped over to the store for beer & veggies, made up some nice curry in my room (shh!) and watched "True Blood" (twice). Got my laundry all clean and had a fantastic night's sleep.

I felt very welcomed at this Super 8, even though I arrived at 1 in the morning. In the room, everything was clean and comfortable. After a long day on the road, I was able to sleep well. The A/C was powerful and the shower had plenty of hot, HOT water in the morning, which I appreciate. The mini fridge also had a moderately large freezer, so I froze some water bottles and ice cubes for the road. Checking out was just as quick and easy as checking in was. I would definitely stay here again!

As my son is in the military, it was great to see that they honored those who serve our country. The breakfast was very common to what you get in most hotels. However if anything ran out the staff was there right away to make sure that it was refilled. I enjoyed a plate of biscuits and gravy some eggs and some fruit. I washed it down with cranberry juice and a small piece of pastry. I do not see myself being in O'Neill Nebraska again. If you asked me, you could always go the extra 10 miles to Atkinson for a nice hotel. But if your on your way to Oneill, I would stay here, save ALOT of money, and enjoy the small town feel.

She graciously invited us to use the bathroom in one of the guest rooms. This little inn looked rather shabby on the outside - in need of paint and TLC. The room she showed us to was certainly not fancy or the latest in decor. But it was SPOTLESS!!! It smelled fresh and clean with none of that musty old motel odor. As we prepared to leave, she came out to our car asked if she could get a cup of coffee or anything. We declined and I inquired about room rates. I was amazed at how reasonable the cost was. If I have occasion to travel through there again, I would definitely stay at the Oak Creek Inn.
