My mom has lived at Golden Heritage for almost 2.5 years ever since she broke her hip and some other issues which made living at home with me more difficult. My brother and I had looked at a number of possible assisted living facilities and Golden Heritage was my first choice. It is relatively close by to where I live and work, has an Asian staff with many speaking Mandarin (as well as I believe Catonese). There are also some Japanese and possibly some Korean residents as well. We had also considered Aegis Gardens in Fremont, but it was further away and higher cost. The place is independently owned and run by a very nice family with experience in running health care facilities. The place also felt less "corporate." The facilities were converted from a "European" style hotel - with each of the resident floors having a big common space - so it doesn't look like a typical assisted living facility or hotel. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. It took a few months for my mom to adjust living there, but she's come to enjoy living there. My mom enjoys the activities including simple daily exercises, some crafts, weekly outings to pick up small groceries (like fruit for small fridge in room) and household items, and bingo. And, often on the weekends there are small performances by local groups like youth or senior church groups I think. There is free wifi and my mom regularly streams videos from her iPad which I understand is common. Having just broken her hip my mom started off in the assisted living floor of Golden Heritage, but a few months after transitioned to an independent living floor which helped keep the costs down. Despite being in independent living they do check in on her and have called my brother or I when they have noticed problems such as falls or strange behavior; we monitored more carefully and eventually had a medical issue taken care of. It definitely gives me piece of mind knowing that she's being watched over. All in all I'm very satisfied with Golden Heritage. I think if you're looking into senior facilities for you elderly loved one you should definitely check out multiple places as they will each feel a little different to you. I wouldn't state that Golden Heritage is for everyone, but it's been working very well for my mom. read more

My mom needs a place so that she can be active and happy. This place has so much respect and love for the elderly. My mom loves this place. After 3 months in our house. My mom did not move enough. With our work schedules and activities, she would just sit there watching television. She needs to exercise her mind and body so that she can recuperate from a couple of scheduled procedures in the future. I visited this facility in the past and always noticed happy,smiling, Asian people that were pretty active given their condition. But what really stood out is the attention and care they receive from the team that works there. This place is a safe, really nice digs for my mom. I feel that she will be able to have fun, be active and get stronger in the up coming weeks. This place is highly recommended for those who appreciate Asian food service, Christian love in action, and a place where activities and group interaction are practiced and encouraged. There are even volunteers and students who come to help put on programs for the elderly! If you are looking for a place for your loved one, check this place out! read more

Golden Heritage has a really good service and nice environment for the elderly. Residents of Golden Heritage got to have four meals a day. They have their exercise room and most of them are allowed to go out for a walk by themselves at a specified period of time. The staff members are all caring and respectful. Mom transferred to Golden Heritage from an assisted living facility in San Francisco to be closer to me and because we were not happy with the very expensive care she was receiving in SF. Mary and Danny Mar run a wonderful facility with caring staff who speak multiple Asian languages. Mom's transition was not easy and she had complicated medical issues. Everyone was very supportive and was able to give me valuable advice. I particularly appreciated that GH has a RN on staff to oversee medications and make recommendations. James, Annie and Helen were amazing. The facility is very nice and clean, the staff caring and the food is good with Asian and American food options Finding a safe, good place for your elderly loved one is very difficult and an emotional roller coaster. The Golden Heritage facility isn't like a resort...it was a resort hotel. Beautiful decor, nice furniture and the rooms are like any you'd see in a lovely home. The most important feature however is the employees themselves. The staff and management are kind, considerate, very patient and good natured. There is so much joy and laughing. They are very attentive to each resident. The food is tasty and well balanced meals are served. The many programs are geared toward the residents' needs. This is an assisted living home where my mother and father resided. It is under the direction of Danny Mar. The facility is beautiful and is geared towards our aging Chinese parents. The food here is as close to home cooking as possible. Monthly meetings are held with the residence to decide the next month's activities and meals. It once was a hotel and has all the conveniences of one. The people who work here are excellent. We find the staff to be alert, caring and nurturing, which is what we want for our parents. It is a nonprofit and faith based facility. I am thankful to God that we've come across such a wonderful place. read more

I would like to recommend Golden Heritage for our elderly who need assisted living care. My Mom has lived there since 2012 and loves it. She is 99 years old. The staff at GH are caring, respectful, and clean. They have craft classes, exercise classes, language classes, and hold some worship sessions. They have monthly birthday luncheons for those born in that month. Also, they have celebrations for Christmas, Chinese New Year, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, and Hawaiian luaus. The meals at GH are mostly Asian as most of the residents are mostly Chinese, Japanese, and some Koreans. My wife and I have eaten meals there which were very healthy and good. My Mom has developed some friendships with some of the residents, mainly because they attend the same church as she does. I believe that building relationships help keep the residents healthy and happy. GH is directed by Danny and Mary Mar who have many years of experience in hospital and assisted living facilities. It is well staffed with very friendly and helpful caregivers. You can also subscribe to a medical insurance program called Caremore that will observe the resident on a weekly basis by a nurse practitioner who will report to the family. I would highly recommend GH to families who need a loving, caregiving environment for your loved ones. read more

My mother spent the last 5 years of her life here, requiring limited assistance at the outset, and progressing to needing hospice care. I visited mom hundreds of times over this period of time, and noted that she and the other residents seemed happy and content with their care. I witnessed the resident care staff to be compassionate and highly competent. The resident care staff is expertly managed by experienced and caring administrators. It was such a relief knowing mom was being taken care of so well day in and day out. I wholeheartedly recommend Golden Heritage to anyone who has loved ones looking for an assistance living facility. read more

We are very happy that we made a right choice for our 86 year old father. Golden Heritage is awesome for the senior people. Normally, the old people have negative feeling about assisted living, but not for Golden Heritage. The building used to be a 5 star hotel with gorgeous decoration and facilities. So, it gives you a feeling of living in a hotel for a vacation rather than an assisted living center. I would give a thrumb up for the friendly staffs. They always wear a smile on their face. They are very patient and caring to the old people. Everyday, they have lots of arranged activities for the elderies, which includes exercise, arts & crafts, board games, performances etc.... Golden Heritage has a big Chinese speaking population and serves Chinese food. Miranda was very nice, she really cared about our situation and tried to explain what is needed for us to be able to get our mom into their facility. She even called a few weeks later to follow up. This is a place filled with warmth, care and professional ethics. 11 out of 12 reviews (not including mine) gave it 5 stars - that should say something about this place! The people who run this place have had decades of experience running retirement and assisted living homes, and they are certainly the folks you want to trust to take care of your family. They go out of their way to do things right, and they actually care! There is a waitlist for the home, but that is because it is a trusted, secure, warm place. There are activities and social events for residents. Families and friends are welcomed. Not to mention it is centrally located and easy to get to for visitors. As one can only imagine, the process of finding the right facility for an elderly parent is extremely difficult and stressful. My mother has been at Golden Heritage since mid-February and absolutely loves it there. Mary(Mgr Community Relations) and Danny Mar(Director) of Golden Heriatge are wonderful and kind !! They made a truly difficult transition for my mother and family so simple. Without any notice or explanation, the rent quadrupled by the fourth month. We questioned why and the management got mad at us for asking and threatened to kick my dad out into the street right then and there. They are a big fake act and really have Zero/No compassion and they just want your money so they can go on their two weeks vacation every month. Glad that we found another place soon after otherwise my dad and us would be homeless due to the financial devastation they inflicted upon us as a result of their obsessive greed. Big hoax. My mom stayed at Golden Heritiage for the last two years. I had looked into many other facilities before, especially those with some chinese speaking staff. To me, Golden Heritage provides best in class services all around. For many months, I was visiting very frequently, almost daily at times, and so I was able to observe how things were run. There is adequate staffing and they truly care about the residents as well as the families. They are well organized and seldom make any mistakes. There are many residnets with different needs and they seem to be able to take care of them all. My mom was very difficult to take care of, throwing temper tandrums from time and time. Staff was very patient and worked successfuly with her to gradually modify her behavior. Danny and Mary consistently gave me good advice and guidance, making my life easier. Through them I was able to do video-chat with my mom every week and also get hospice care arranged without having to do a lot of lef work myself. I felt very much that Golden Heritage is a part of my family and from what I had seen of other places, that feeling is certainly omething I am very grateful for. read more

My mother was a resident at Golden Heritage from December 2009 through October 2011 when she passed away due to a combination of Alzheimer's and renal failure. She was ambulatory when she checked in. She stayed at the third floor with a spacious common area that residents could interact with fellow residents, caregivers, activity directors, nurses and family members. She had her own room that was furnished with Queen Anne style furniture and her own bathroom with a walk-in shower. It was one of the nicest senior living centers that we had seen in San Jose during that time. Over time, her early-stage of Alzheimer's had become the late-stage Alzheimer's and her kidneys had finally shut down requiring dialysis 3 times a week. At Danny and Mary Mar's suggestion, she was moved to the second floor where there were more caregivers on account of the higher-level of care needs. Danny and Mary were kind enough to put her in a room next to the caregivers and nurse's office where records and medicines were kept. According to them, this would provide my mother with added attention since she was in the line of sight of the caregivers and nurse. In that sense, I was most grateful for their thoughtfulness and attention to details. Danny and Mary were caring people and so were their caregivers, nurses, and kitchen and facility staff. My mother was always well cared for. I visited her at different times of the days and sometimes late in the evenings. She was always surrounded with caregivers, keeping her company, entertaining her by having her sit at their table at night when they were doing their paperwork. Toward the end when her health situations had worsen, they would spoon-feed her, clean her up after her meals, change her diaper when she soiled it, sponge bathe her and clean her denture and her gum before she turned in, and secured her in bed with multiple alarms before dimming the lights. Between the caregivers and the nurse, they would see to it that she took all the pills with the right dosage at the right time and nutritional drinks (e.g., Ensure) needed to keep her healthy. Most important, she was showered with love and attention. My mother was a lovable human being, and they responded in like manner. Danny and Mary along with their staff had always kept me informed about my mother's needs and health situations requiring my immediate attention. They had my cell phone number, and I had given them permission to call me any time of the day. Understanding my willingness to go the distance for my mother, they would even make recommendation for me to buy certain lotions or creams that were particularly effective in taking care of her dry skins, for example, based on their years of experience in running nursing homes in the case of Danny and Mary in being a nurse herself. In addition, Danny and Mary along with the pastor were paying attention to my mother's spiritual needs as well. A few months before she passed on, she was baptized with my consent. I couldn't be happier for her as she had finally found her spiritual home in God. Over the two years of my mother's stay at Golden Heritage, I have developed a profound respect and appreciation for Danny and Mary and the entire staff at Golden Heritage for their professionalism, compassion for those seniors in their care, and the caring services they had given to my mother. I also recognized the importance for my family and me to play an active part in supporting them in giving my mother the best care possible. And we did indeed! Although my mother was with her God now, I know she would agree with me that it was two years well spent at Golden Heritage. During the funeral, Danny and Mary and the pastor and some of the caregivers closest to my mother were there to see her off. I know they were not obligated to be there, but they showed up simply because they truly cared. For that, I was and am still in awe with them. It is a well-known fact that people who show up at one's funeral are one's true friends. Our mother moved into Golden Heritage in July after suffering a fall and a heart valve procedure. We were referred by an assisted living consultant from her rehab facility. From Day 1, we have been impressed by Golden Heritage. There are 3 main reasons we decided that this will be our mother ongoing home. 1) The facilties are exceptional. As other reviews mentioned, this was a hotel, so the rooms, common areas and dining hall are first class. The rooms have been adapted to senior living, such walk-in showers. 2) The services are terrific and expanding all the time. The food is partially geared to Asian seniors, there are daily exercise and various activities on site. They have arranged for podiatry visits, hearing checks and beauty parlor facilties to name a few. 3) The last and most important reason is the staff and management. They are the most caring and dedicated people I have ever met. They create such a nurturing and safe environment for the seniors, as well as, a welcoming atmosphere for visting family. We feel very fortunate to have our mom in their care. As the 5 stars state, AS GOOD AS IT GETS! -Our family's highest recommendation. read more

Our family is grateful for the services that Golden Heritage provided for mom. My mother, like everyone else, resisted the idea of moving into an assisted living. On her first tour, she met some residents and changed her mind - she said they all looked very happy. Within a week of moving in she was participating in everything. A day at GH is very busy from morning exercises to afternoon games, singing or outing. This is a faith based place so there are bible studies and worship if one would like to attend. There are also visitors every week from different churches and organizations. We did not have to worry about her being in her room by herself lonely because the staff made sure to remind everyone of what was going on at the time. The room itself is lovely, the building having been a hotel, and the bathroom is spacious. Mom was very pleased to have a beautiful spacious room. What makes this place most special, though, is the people. Their compassion and loving, caring attitude made all the differences. The management staff is very knowledgeable and helped us navigate through the move in processes. The front office staff is warm, helpful and prompt with communication. Nursing staff is responsible notifying family of any change such as abnormal blood pressure readings. Care staff is friendly and helped mom in every way possible. On the first night she moved in, I went to see her after dinner and I found the manager and one of the care staff chatting with her. They really made her feel welcome. Pretty soon we could not reach mom via telephone because she was almost never in her room other than to rest. Later on when mom started misplacing her dentures the staff took over the safekeeping of her dentures - that is a lot of personal care. Pricing is reasonable - I had called a few places, but the initial level was lower than most other places in the area with similar services. We are all happy that mom was able to enjoy being pampered! read more
