Stopped by on our way home from montauk to grab a bagel. There's a sign that says, essentially, "This line is for bagels and spreads sold individually. If you don't know where to go, order at the far left register." So I go there and the woman directs me back to the register I was at with that sign. She comes from across the store to take orders at the register she told me to go to then tells me to go to a third register. I tell her that SHE'S the one who told me to go here. I walked out. Furious is an understatement. Ordered a bagel and cream cheese and after waiting patiently for 15 minutes and watching person and after person that came in up to 10 minutes after me get their orders. I finally asked the young woman who took my order what was taking so long and she asked me if I ordered from her and I said yes. She asked what I ordered, I told her and she looked at me like a deer in headlights. I then told her never mind and I'd just get a refund because I had to go and she walked away. I spoke with one of the two women at the register and told her I needed a refund because the woman who I ordered from forgot it and she motions around to the room and said, "we're very busy" and I explained again what happened and that I needed to leave so I just wanted my money back. She tells the other woman and she asked what I ordered and I told her assuming she was asking so I could be refunded. Nope. She tells me she's going to have them make it and I again told her I just wanted my money back to which she responded very dismissively, "Mami, I'm busy" while waving me away so I just walked out without my order or my money. read more

I stopped by this place since for a quick lunch since I was in the area for a doctors appointment, and I was blown away! I could tell this was a local favorite by the amount of people that were here at 11 am on a Saturday. The line was out the door, but the wait wasn't too bad. When I went (10/2021), there was no indoor seating, but there were some tables outside, which was nice. I got the, I believe it's called the Hungry Man, on a roll, and it was amazing! It was a bacon egg and cheese with sausage and ham and it was so filling. You will definitely be full for a while after eating this! Coffee is also a must! This is the worst Goldberg location. Like other reviews have stated, the customer service just isn't it. They hear what they want to hear instead of what you said. On 3 different occasions I've asked for BEC with scrambled eggs... not once were the eggs scrambled. You could see the yolk had congealed.. why didn't they scramble the eggs like I asked? I stopped ordering that, ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese thinking that would be easier. It wasn't. The bagel was extra toasted to where it tasted burnt many times! Okay so now I won't order it toasted. A plain bagel with little cream cheese. Simple enough right? Wrong! They REFUSE to put little cream cheese. I can't make this up. I've asked them to scrape some off and then they roll their eyes at you! Unbelievable. How am I in the wrong by wanting my food made the way I ordered it / purchased it? Today I made the bagel myself by asking for a little cream cheese on the side because when I asked the woman to take off some cream cheese, she took almost all of it off. the cream cheese on the side is after I used some for my bagel. I live in New York City, and I'm very particular about my bagels. I usually won't even have a bagel unless it's from one of my three go-to places in the city. So when I saw Goldberg's, I was skeptical- but I really had a hankering for a good bagel to get the day started. I have to say, this place blew my mind. The plain bagel I got was delectable, perfectly toasted, a delightfully chewy and airy creation. Not only that, I tried their "flats", which look like a cross between a Turkish simit and a regular bagel, and it was unbelievably good. It was like nothing I've ever had before- a bit doughy like a bagel, but with the chew of a soft, pillowy Hawaiian roll. It's hard to explain, but easy to recommend- try it! Goldberg's has the monopoly on Bagels across the East End. 10 years ago I would have given it a 5 star rating. Not anymore. The bagels are delicious BUT the service is below sub-par. They have been in business long enough to have improved their efficiency but nope. It is always extremely busy, especially in the summer months. The staff are generally friendly but 90% of the time hear what they want to hear versus what you order. I frequent it because it is close to my office but I cannot remember the last time I received a correct order. Example: today I ordered everything bagel, scooped and toasted with Honey Turkey, melted swiss and Caesar dressing. When I bite into it, they had put Russian dressing on it. They don't even sound similar. It's mistakes like this that happen every time. They need a "bar rescue" type situation to come in and help them get organized, or dedicate staff members to each station and make the food assembly line style- oh wait, they can't because they have the toaster on the complete opposite end from the grill and the salad station across from the grill. Wasn't even busy but the server was yaking with another counterperson instead of filling the order with any urgency. He also didn't make one of the sandwiches right. Heading out east, my girlfriend and I were on the prowl for a deli/sandwich shop to fit our "we-need-food-for-the-beach" needs. She's a smart gal, as she may not write reviews, but she uses Yelp to hunt down promising prospects. With four stars and in the direction we were headed, this place won out. Though after it all, we were left with something a little under four stars, but let me explain. It's not a large location, but most delis are squished in size and still find ways to roll out plenty of different types of food options. Goldberg's was no exception to this as there were bagels, breakfast sandwiches, lunch specials, and plenty of sandwich choices that would work well for what we wanted. We chose to split the Springs combination sandwich (breaded chicken cutlet, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and we added American cheese and mayo, all on a roll), but when ready to order, we stood by the counter for a few minutes with no signs of getting waited on despite several people roaming around behind it. I'm good at waiting/giving employees a moment to take an order, especially if a place is bustling, but no one else was there (besides one couple behind us) and it gave us a bit of a disconnect in the service department (part uno of the reason for three stars). As a drink, they carry a local Montauk beverage line and we went with a half and half (ice tea/lemonade). All items were devoured a little later on once at the beach. Working backwards, the drink was light, fresh, and full of sweet flavor. But more importantly is the sandwich. It was on the larger side and had a good helping of chicken. The breading was thick and along with the BLT portion and cheese created a good balance of flavor and a quality beach meal....though I can't say it was worth the price. Okay, I know we were getting lunch from East Hampton so it's almost to be expected as prices can be on the higher end, but $11 for the sandwich we purchased was definitely not worth the price (part dos of the reason for three stars). I do feel like we missed out on an important part of Goldberg's by not having bagels/breakfast sandwiches so it is possible we could return someday to give those a whirl. But overall, for this experience, I'd chalk it up to around three stars (maybe add a half) with a nice sandwich, but a price and service that wasn't anything to bring us back for more. read more
