Now Gold Leaf is a franchise of Yum Cha and chinese restaurants and it is very hard to give a rating as it depends on what time of the day you go. I would give it four to five stars during the day as Yum Cha is their thing. The trolleys are plentiful and there is a wide array of dumpling and fried goodness as well as fast and friendly service. For dinner service it is a little slower and the prices seem to jump considerably. Good value at dinner does come if you have a table of four or more as the banquet is a great feed at a good price. read more

Good food, massive restaurant, lots of attention paid to you by the trolley ladies, not a massive range considering the size and number of trolleys, no mango pancakes for dessert but really really good red bean paste dumplings. Har Gao were good, $120 ish for 3 big eaters including Peking duck. Didn't seem to be half a duck in what we got though.... (Although was very tasty). We had a booking for 1pm on Sunday and we weren't seated until 1.30pm. When I approached the manager to see how long it would be before we would be seated he shouted back at me and asked me to be patient and that it's the same thing as when you see a doctor. In that you have booked for a specific time but it doesn't mean that you will be seen straight away?! Please explain how this is the same thing?! AMAZING! It was like being in Hong Kong! This place is huge and loud and busy. With tons of red decor and gold, lots of gold, understatement or hipster chic is not even on the radar here, and we love it! Busy, but pretty damn good! We hit up the Yum Cha on a Sunday afternoon, which was crazy-mental-busy, but we did have a reservation we booked about a month in advance, which made it worthwhile. Variety is amazing: all of the traditional dumpling types in pork, prawn, and everything else. There's also a smattering of BBQ pork with crackling which is the bees knees. Take a bunch of friends and try one of everything... it's actually really hard to pick a favourite. Customer service - and just general politeness - is a bit lacking... but if you can grit your teeth for an hour while you chow down on some good authentic Chinese, it will be worth giving a go! read more

Always busy even on a week day but the tables turn over quickly so the wait is not very long. Consistently good and there are all the usual suspects on the yum cha trays and some special delicacies on the weekend for the adventurous. read more

Staff attitude sucks and cleanliness is questionable. Came into the one in Sunshine to get some roast pork today and saw a piece on a rack hanging just centimeters above a bin that's on the floor! I said to the chef behind the counter (you know the guys that chops up the meat) that I don't think it's clean where he keeps the food, he seemed upset and got a little offended. No sorry, no thankyou coming from him. I wonder what the food safety people at the Council think about this practice but as for me, I wont be going back there that's for sure !! read more

Overpriced yum Cha. Bad service you have to call he people over to get served. I mean it's Sunshine and they charge heaps. Many better other places around. They charged around $30 for a 7 cm piece of crispy skin duck if was cold and horrible. Only nice thing is the dumplings but there are better around. read more

I have only been to their weekend yum cha, but four times. The place is always PACKED, so book ahead. Very good quality yum cha. Service may be a bit too fast, so that you sometimes feel you're being rushed along to make room for those in the queue (seriously, there's often a queue outside the door). read more
