I loved this remote oasis. Friendly staff, clean water, calm, relaxing. Okay for kids if they are okay with a quiet atmosphere. My only personal complaint is no running water for rinsing off or washing hands after people use the outhouses.

We came with three adult children who were all vaccinated before young grandkids joined us on vacation who couldn't participate. It was very clean and it was relaxing to not have kids around. There are three different water areas with varying temperatures. The middle pool with a sandy bottom and little waterfall is our favorite. They have two portable toilets and a nice yurt/changing area with lockers. I think they have showers. There are snacks, drinks and souvenir clothing items to purchase. Perfect way to spend several hours for only $10 per person.

Used to be our favorite spot, even with the rude owners yelling at people. Today we drove out to show friends and found this sign. The website says open, but they are not. Very sad.

So fun! It was a little crowded when we came but as to be expected. We did have to pay cash to enter. Changing rooms were fine but water felt great! The first pool at the top is definitely the warmest

Zim's Hot Springs - New Meadows, Idaho…read more When you first pull up to Zim's Hot Springs, you'll notice the camp spots right away -- pretty cool to see! I could definitely see myself coming back for an overnight stay next time. That said, some of the features listed on their website don't quite match what's actually there. The "bar" is basically an open Gatorade/Coca-Cola setup with a fan behind it -- more like a refreshment station than a bar. The game room, though, was surprisingly nice for what it has and adds a fun touch to the place. I was a little disappointed when I wanted to grab a beer and found out glass isn't allowed (which I totally understand), but it would've been nice to have another option. On the positive side, the place was clean, the pool was great, and the hot tub was super relaxing. Sitting there on a crisp autumn day in the mountains -- you really can't beat that view or that vibe. The meditation music was excellent. The service was nothing special. They did their job. They gave me a basket. They took my money and told me have a good day. Overall, Zim's is a solid 4 out of 5 for me. A few tweaks and updates to match their online descriptions, and it'd easily be a five-star stop. Definitely worth checking out for yourself!

This place was nestled among trees, cabins, barns and a whole lotta nothing. Don't expect bathrooms or running water here. Just a pool with a gravel bottom with wooden railings + wooden steps to walk in. Reservations are made online here and offer them in 2 hour time blocks at $20 per person. Once we got inside to the check in desk, there was no one to be found. Perhaps this place is based on the honor system? If that's the case then this must be an Idaho thing. During our entire time here, I don't believe we saw a single employee. Just people like us in the pools. There was a small dressing room with dim lighting for you to change in. If you're looking for a spot to put your things, feel free to plant them on the benches surrounding the pool. Bare bones here is how I would describe it. Minus all the luxury amenities, here's what you do get: A true rustic country experience soaking in mineral water that does make your body feel absolutely amazing. The larger pool is between 100-113°F depending on where you are located. This is where I stayed because I couldn't handle any hotter than this. If you go up to the top 2 enclosed pools, those are at a steady 113°F . Nope, not for me. I wasn't about getting cooked. There is a cute little tub located a few feet away from the large pool that is fed by a pipe. This is the least hot of all the pools and just a fun thing to do for pics. We fit 2 of us in there and we were just fine. 3 would be pushing it. Would I come back? Yes if I'm ever out in the middle of Idaho.

This property juts up to a beautiful section of the South Fork of the Payette River. The hosts have set up many different seating areas overlooking the river. The property sits above the river and there is a cliff right next to the river, but with a couple of private trails that lead down to the property's own private beach areas when the river is lower. The crown gem of the property however is a nice little hot pool that is the perfect temperature for soaking. Our favorite times to soak were in the early morning hours and well into the night when it was nice and dark. The hosts had provided some nice floating equipment to use in the pool that were great for relaxing in the water and enjoying some epic stargazing. This property is in the wilderness away from town so the setting is perfect for this type of activity. And best of all...you have the whole place to yourselves. The hosts, Jamie and Dan, are some of the nicest and most helpful people and really care that you have a good time on their property. They are very warm and welcoming in their demeanor. They are always available if you need them, but they have a way of making it feel as if you have the whole property to yourself, which you kind of do. The separate cabin for the guests is small but super cozy. Even though there is not a kitchen, there is a fridge and microwave with a grill just outside the door. There are a couple of fire pits as well and so there are opportunities to cook over an open fire if you want to. We ate very well while we were there. The hosts also stock the cabin with a variety of different snacks and treats. There are also treats provided for you to feed their horse Legs if you so desire. Activities abound in this area and we are avid hikers, so that is where we spent a lot of our time, but we always loved returning after a long hike to just chill on the property and take it all in. We have stayed at a lot of different places like this, but Double J&D Hot Spring Ranch is probably our favorite. As I said before, the hosts are amazing and there are tons of things to do in the area. They provide their guests with a good range of activities and the property guide book has a good deal of information about the area with recommendations. And if you can't find what you're looking for, Dan and Jamie will probably be able to point you in the right direction. It was our second time staying there and it certainly won't be the last. We were only there for three nights, and I wish we could have stayed longer. If you decide to give this place a chance, I'm sure that you will leave feeling refreshed and rejuvinated as this is the perfect place to unwind, relax, and re-connect with nature.

The Mundo Hot Spring Debacle…read more Nancy has been wanting to visit Mundo Hot Spring for quite some time so she got us a reservation several weeks in advance for Oct. 15. She reserved a small cabin with a private tub and a privacy fence. Check in was 4 p.m. and check out at 11 a.m. Nancy said there was a cafe and we'd eat there. We got there and we were showed around. It was a nice looking place. There was a microwave, a small refrigerator and a small heater. We got into bathing suits and into the hot tub we went. It was pleasant enough. When we got out I went across the street looking for food and came away with some very overpriced snacks. Nancy said there was a restaurant and left to go get a menu. It wasn't quite a restaurant not even a cafe. She came back with a menu for Turkey, Beef or some other kind of sandwich and a chef's salad. Pretty piss poor pickings. I had beef she had turkey. I could have made a dozen sandwiches in the time it took to get two. They were mediocre at best. We filled our bellies and bedded down for the night. About midnight, I got up to turn on the heat, no joy, the damned thing didn't work. At 3 a.m. we were both freezing. I plugged the heater into every electrical outlet in the place - - nada. By 6 a.m. we'd had enough. I started to truck to warmup while we gathered our things. Heated seats were never so good as they were that morning. We made a quick stop at Dutch Brothers for coffee and arrived home a little after 8 a.m. Nancy called the hot springs and was given a "We're sorry to hear that." No offer for a day pass. No offer for a free night - - nothing. So we had a reservation, waited weeks to go, and for all of the trouble of freezing our butts off, we got a "We're sorry." That's about as close to "We got your money and you can screw off" without actually coming out and saying it. That was Thursday morning. Nancy said she thought the lady she dealt with, after having some time to think about it, would come around to make it good. So this morning, Monday, I asked her if she had heard anything - - Nada! There was a time when no business would risk their reputation on such shoddy public relations. I guess that time has long passed. Take a Hard Pass on Mundo Hot Spring.

Because it was late in the year, we knew they wouldn't have water or wastewater hookups. All we needed was an electric plugin, which worked fine. The hot springs pool was well-maintained and the warm water was refreshing. Employees came by frequently to ensure the water temperature remained within acceptable levels. The staff was friendly and they even refunded our hot springs fee for the final day, after we decided to leave a bit early because the forecast called for a snow storm before we had planned to leave to go home to Boise. We're glad Mundo is near an entry point for the Weiser River Trail, an 84-mile former railroad path between Weiser and Council. We plan to return in the summer to ride the trail.

How to get there(ish): 1. Head up ID 55 like you're going towards McCall 2. Hang a right on Banks Lowman Highway 3. Drive for 28 miles and then you'll see Pine Flats Campground on the right 4. (Now getting to the hot springs is a bit tricky. Side note: I definitely would NOT recommend attempting this in snowy weather, that just would not be smart or safe.) Anyways, you're going to take a trail that runs sort of by the river and is towards the rightmost part of the campground. You'll walk for what I assume to be a quarter mile, and then voila! You'll arrive at a beach along the river with massive boulders and pools stacked against the hillside (this is all natural by the way)! The Campground: Parking is $5/day, and I am not sure about the cost of overnight camping as we only made a day trip here. They have one bathroom here, and, well, it's totally a public park bathroom. The Views: We went on an October weekend, so we had a view that combined all things beautiful that Idaho has to offer in one--snow on mountains in the distance, lush green hills, stunning fall foliage, a rushing river running along the hot springs, and clean mountain air. The Hot Springs: A good amount of the pools of water were warm and I would only recommend sitting in them if the weather is above 80 degrees, or else you'll get chilly real quick. But for the most part, they were toasty, especially if you sat underneath the ones with waterfalls--those will heat you right up! Pro Tip(s): 1. Make sure you have more than enough gas in your car--you're out of service up here and out of luck if you run out of gas. 2. Bring a big water bottle! Sitting in hot water will dehydrate ya real quick.

And it's hot during July and August, but the temperatures drop fairly quickly once the sun starts to set. But we loved it up here, sharing the site with friends who brought a camper van and another who came with a tent. We liked this campsite because the picnic tables, fire ring and tent pad were 30 feet behind the paved driveway. Walk about the same distance again and you're at Silver Creek. The water is three to four feet deep and it runs gently. It was perfect for setting our chairs in and cooling off in nearly 100-degree conditions. An added bonus is that the privately owned Silver Creek Plunge is located next to the campground. They have their own campsites and cabins, but the real draw is their swimming pool fed by a hot spring. The pool, with water rising from the shaft of an old Silver mine, has operated since 1957. We took our bikes and road north from the campground to the Peace Valley Trail. We road maybe a mile of the five-mile trail, as it was starting to get dark. We didn't see any wildlife but were told by a couple of hikers that deer and elk are often seen along the trail.
