My first thought was that it is more remote than I had for some reason assumed. I really appreciated the relatively large spans of almost no civilization and all nature. Second thought, the entire Oregon coast is stunning...the most beautiful coast line in the country in my humble opinion. Rugged, treed, full of wildlife, serene. Third note, the corridor did have the most rock formations as compared to other parts of our coast, very fun to admire, especially from the higher vantage points of the many, many viewpoints along the route. Overall, a stunning area...but let's be real...it's just another jaw-droppingly beautiful piece of a state overflowing with spectacular sights.

We didn't have time to hike the whole thing today (it is 5.4 miles round trip), but we hiked out on this trail for about 20 minutes and then hiked about 20 minutes back, and we both thought it was well worth the time to do that. We saw wild irises along the trail, many beautiful trees of all shapes and sizes, more incredible ocean vistas, and a monarch butterfly! I personally quite love hiking trails that have arch-like overhangs of trees over parts of the trail. Happily, the beginning jaunt of this trail had several such arches of greenery. It is magical to be enclosed by trees on both sides of me *and* also overhead! Some stretches of this trail have somewhat steep elevation gain. Other sections of the trail were very muddy when we hiked this trail today, to the extent that our shoes could've sunk several inches in to mud if we weren't watching where we stepped. There was no one there except for us today! It is a week day morning, so this park may be far more crowded on the week-ends. But it was so peaceful to enjoy this place all to ourselves! I was a little worried about the rope climb at the bottom to the beach but it was a breeze (I'm 67). The tide was out so we spent a lot of time on the rocks, looking at the tide pools, walking the beach and letting the 3 dogs run. We went during the week in June and had the beach to ourselves. The day was super windy but the trail and beach were blocked from most of it. The views from the trail are spectacular and so many wildflowers and mushrooms to see. Not a huge parking area so I could see where it might be tight on the weekends. Several of us were in flip flops but I would wear my hiking shoes if I was to go back.

Eureka! Not just…read morethe California state motto, but a state of mind. As the Gold Rush extended into Oregon, the small town of Ellensburg changed its name to Gold Beach in 1890. It was an acknowledgment of all the gold strikes in the area. Plus, it was good marketing. Normally I'm not a fan of rocks on a beach, but these were beautiful. Too bad they weren't gold nuggets, but some of them glowed so brilliantly white it was almost spooky. Gold Beach is where the Rogue River meets the Pacific Ocean and it is a sleepy little town. The beach was similarly tranquil and rugged. This is not Seaside. No boardwalk and no restaurants lined up on the beach. Be prepared to self entertain and bring your picnic basket. A good place for beach combing and building forts out of driftwood. On our walk to the beach from our hotel, we were surrounded by deer casually roaming the area. Wildlife reigns supreme in this little corner of Oregon and I'm sure the animals outnumber the people. Gold Beach ended up being kind of a blissful refuge from the world. This beach doesn't necessarily have the wow factor and dramatic views of some other coastal towns, but peace and quiet can be very nice things every now and again.

They provide you with basic cooking items and cleaning, along with toiletries. There's a fan in the living room and bedroom for those warm summer nights and a TV in all three spaces. The deck is huge! And the hot tub is good for 4. You're literally steps from the path to the ocean and if you walk off your deck and in between a couple bushes you'll see it. It would be nice if those shrubs were cut way down just to see the ocean and river that goes behind the cottage.

September 4, 2025. We've stayed at this RV Park numerous…read moretimes over the last 10 years. We always get a hot tub site that we really enjoy. The staff is very friendly and the park as well maintained. They have a laundry room and a new dog run area. You can walk down to the ocean from the RV park. The beach goes on for miles in either direction. The beach can get windy at times, but on this particular trip visit, we had outstanding weather. They used to have the Tortuga Mexican food restaurant; however, that went out of business recently. Arch Rock Brewery took over their space. Does it get any better? A brewery and hot tub at the RV park at the ocean. The resort also serves breakfast now, and we took advantage of that. My favorite breakfast items were the sausage breakfast burrito and the French toast. They also make delicious mochas.

I spent many summers in Gold Beach and have fished every spot on the Rogue River imaginable…read more However I haven't been back for nearly 25 years. So when I wanted to relive some memories, I was very cautious as to who I would hire as a guide. Luckily I found Gene, and he came through. My 17 year old son and I met Gene at the dock at Jot's Resort at 8am. Gene said we would be trolling the tide water near the mouth. Now I've trolled the bay a thousand times and it a hard run and difficult to catch anything more than moss. We had only been trolling for about an hour when we caught a 20 pound Salmon. The catch brought back so many memories I almost started crying. Thank you Gene for an amazing day on the river and thank you for listening to all of the stories I told about my Grandfather, Frank and the times I spent on the Rogue. Your a great guy and everyone should book your guide service. It was money well spent and I can't wait to book a Spring Salmon trip so we can fish near my Gramps old place.

The owner told me it wasn't, and then gave me very detailed directions there. I could tell he was a character, and he did not disappoint. When I arrived there was no wind, and it's a beautiful spot, flat and very easy access off the road but definitely private. Since I wasn't sure which site to choose he walked the entire park with me, teaching me about the different trees and showing me each site. He spotted a weed and we stopped so he could pull it. He's a treasure. Ps, he built it all himself many years ago, landscaped it and cut all the trails as well! I'd guess him to be near 80.

It was equipped with linens/blankets, cookware/utensils, a BBQ, and a cozy fireplace. We brought our dog so it was great that the deck and front yard were fenced in. Deer came onto the property! We enjoyed our stay immensely and are sure to use to this vacation rental next time we are in Gold Beach.

September 5, 2025. We've done Jerry's Rogue River jet boat…read moreride a few times now. Normally they don't allow dogs, so that tends to be a limiting factor for us. However, on this particular day, there was a special cruise up the river that allowed dogs. It was actually part of a larger corgi dog event that was happening at the RV park we were staying at. When we found out about it, we signed up. Our little pup loved the boat ride, kinda like a dog who likes to stick his head out the window, ears blowing back, when you're driving down the road. I had a firm grip on her though, and she wasn't going anywhere. You get to see a lot of great wildlife and beautiful wild land scenery.

What an excellent way to end my summer break!…read more One Thursday morning, my partner and I sat in the living room with our coffee and began discussing adventures we could have before returning to school. He suggested Jerry's Rogue Jets in Oregon, recalling how much he enjoyed it as a child. So, we looked up the Wilderness Whitewater Tour and found four tickets available for the next day (Friday) at 11:30. He booked a hotel, and we drove to Oregon that Thursday afternoon. The tour, which departed from the Port of Gold Beach, took us through the scenic Rogue River Canyon. As we rode, the captain shared fascinating stories about the river's history and wildlife. He executed many fun, quick turns and dips that splashed us with water. Luckily, we were sitting in the back, so we didn't get as soaked as those in the front. Our first stop was in Agness, where we switched boats and were entertained by Captain John. We also had to wear safety vests during this second part of the tour. This time, we got thoroughly drenched, but I still enjoyed it. I just wish I had brought an extra set of clothes. Our daughters, who were sitting in the middle, complained that they didn't get wet enough, even though their hair and clothes were soaked. I guess they were hoping to be completely drenched. After returning to Agness, it was time for a meal at Cougar Lane Lodge. It was convenient that food and drinks were included in the price! While alcohol cost extra, we didn't feel like having cocktails or beer. The lunch was surprisingly excellent! The adult meal had a variety of choices, and my partner opted for the BBQ plate, which included ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, along with a muffin, beans, and coleslaw. Delicious! I chose the cheeseburger with fries, which was also tasty. I regretted not selecting the BBQ plate, but I was satisfied with my burger. Fortunately, my partner couldn't finish his meal, so I was able to have a few bites of the tender meat. After our hour-long lunch, we returned to the boat. This time, the captain did fewer quick turns and dips, but it was still enjoyable! He continued to share information about the area, himself, and the animals in the wilderness until we made it back to the Port of Gold Beach. It was an incredible boat ride!

The experience we had over the 4th of July holiday was horrible and did not match the information…read moreon the web site or the claims of the rental company. To be blunt, the house was filthy with a large list of issues. We wanted out the first day but there was nothing available anywhere on that weekend. We therefore requested a full refund of the amounts paid, nearly $2000. As of this posting, the refund has not come through even though they said is would be coming. Here is a partial list of what we encountered. Oven did not work. Dishwasher did not work and smelled like a sewer. We were told to take the dishes two flights downstairs to wash them in a sink. Kitchen sink did not drain and smelled like sewer. Rodent poop on every counter in every room. Toilets were filthy with pubic hair and dirt. Spiders and cobwebs virtually everywhere. No internet as advertised. No TV as advertised. Hot tub was half full and smelled moldy. Damage to many areas in the house including walls and floors. The couch looked like dogs ripped it up. No garbage can or any way to dispose of garbage. We have many photos that document our findings. The elderly ladies who run the Wild Coast Vacations run a scam and should be shut down permanently.
