The EZ Pawn store on South Shaver, Pasadena TX, sold me a 10K gold pendant as 14K for $594.99 and…read moretreated me badly when I asked for a refund; I had to threaten a small-claims case to get a full refund. I discovered the issue a year after the initial purchase date when checking my gold inventory with another dealer; usually the gold pieces that I buy are stamped, but the pendant was missing (or hiding) a stamp of its karat composite; additionally, EZ Pawn records will show that I NEVER buy 10K gold. I was an excellent EZ-Pawn customer having recently bought over $25,000 in gold jewelry (with several thousand more in layaway and about to be paid off); I felt confident that the manager would do the right thing, honor the transaction, admit to the error, and refund my money; afterall, I had the original receipt detailing the pendant description with a false Karat. Boy, was I wrong! On 2/27/26, I visited the store and spoke to the manager, Tameta (not sure of the spelling); I explained the problem, presented the pendant and receipt, and politely asked for a full refund of my money. The manager became confrontational and accused me of creating an issue when nicely asking for a refund. I was professional and polite; she wasn't. Then she tried to scare me off through intimidation by repeating that the sale was over a year ago. I responded that it didn't matter; that it was still deceptive trade; that there was a two-year statute for me to file a small-claims case if she continued to argue. Then she went gangster and started throwing condescending directives for me to shut up; again, I had only asked for a refund; she was the one lobbing accusations and making a scene to create a false narrative. She realized that I wasn't giving up and offered me $545.00, cutting off $50 from the amount I paid. I refused and insisted on the full amount of $594.99. Afterall, spot gold was trading at $5,250 that day, far above what I initially paid for the pendant had it actually been 14K - so, EZ Pawn cost me money as an investment. The manager said I had to wait while she called her supervisor but again tried to scare me off by saying it may take time for a call back. I told her to call, that I would wait; it was a simple response, nothing else! But the manager responded by rambling about me creating a scene. I didn't say anything after that; I just wanted my money and to get the hell away from this psycho! About 10 minutes later, the manager came out of the back office talking on the phone with her supervisor; she went to the cash register and counted out $595.00. She said EZ Pawn would "buy" the pendant for the amount that I paid, which was fine with me. She gave me the transaction receipt; she did not apologize to me. I said nothing, accepted the money, and walked out. Furthermore, during the past week, I am aware that EZ Pawn has drastically cut its pawn payouts; as mentioned, spot gold is now way over $5,000 but EZ Pawn is paying at a fraction of the value. Accordingly, EZ Pawn lost all of my future business. I warn ALL consumers to avoid this unscrupulous merchant. It has been my experience that EZ Pawn is careless, rude, and cheats their customers.
