Wedding cake RUINED- DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE…read more the wedding cake showed up damaged and nothing like the image we asked for. We had ordered this as a gift for my brother and his wife's wedding present and it was nothing short of utterly embarrassing! We called them straight away (on the wedding day) and the lady we spoke to advised no one could help and we have to email our complaint. - we did this straight away and also attached pictures Almost a week later we get an auto response saying there is nothing they can do because we didn't retain the cake and the box??? What exactly did they expect us to do? Not serve the cake at the wedding!? As embarrassing and damaged as it was, we had to fix it up as best we could ( some relatives drove to a bakery and picked up some decorative cake toppers ) and we made the best we could of it. We have been asking to speak to the manager but we are told there is no management, we called to speak to senior staff and a member of staff hung up on us after we explained everything today. They are not willing to make right this massive wrong. The bride and groom looked so disappointed in the cake, the caterers who received the cake on the day were so shocked they actually took pictures straight away and sent them to us to ask if this was actually what we asked for! We can't get back the special moment of the bride and groom cutting their cake- they have been robbed and we have been left mortified all because this scam of a company wants to hide behind their terms and conditions that require us to retain the cake and box as it is so they can inspect and examine it!! How can they expect us to not cut the cake on the day of the wedding when we had no choice! They refused to send anyone to rectify it on the day and we were told no one could help. Only a week later are we told we needed to keep the cake and box to move forward with a complaint even though we have images of everything. If you are hoping for a cake that not only matches what you asked for, that shows up on time, and shows up undamaged, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We are very sorry and regretful to have ever used this company for such a special occasion

Absolutely terrible experience. Cake was delivered damaged and after being promised (by email) that…read morea replacement cake would be sent then next day, that never arrived. I was then told the replacement had been cancelled with no one telling me. They then claimed it had been delivered intact, eventhough I had sent them pictures to prove otherwise. Was then also refused a refund, unless I brought back 90% of the cake (there wasn't even 90% intact anyway). I live really far away from them, so can't bring it back. They refused to collect it. I was also then hung up on by their staff and they never picked up again. At no point did I even receive an apology. I have never been so disappointed by any company ever. Absolutely appalling customer service. Spend your money somewhere else.

I walk past this place every morning with the dog I'm currently taking care of, and two times out…read moreof three I can't resist getting an egg roll. Not *that* kind of eggroll mind you, but a couple of tasty fried eggs on a brown roll with butter for less than two quid. It's cramped inside, so it's better for takeaway, but I saw a gent just yesterday with a proper full English breakfast sitting at the window. Decent java as well.

Dear Village Bakery,…read more At 7.30 in the morning, I'm sure you're well aware that cars and motorbikes are kahuning far too quickly down Orford Road for me to risk walking my 7 yo daughter down there. And filling the small amount of space between the tables and chairs outside your shop with plastic pallets wasn't entirely reasonable; nor so was it for one of the staff to barrel out and scream "IDIOT" and other colourful abuse when my child tipped one over accidentally while carefully inching her scooter through. I'd probably have just chalked that shitty behaviour, and my daughter's subsequent tears, as a blight on the school run but you weren't done, were you, Village Bakery? On returning alone after dropping her off, you, the owner, burst out of the shop shouting at me for walking past with my phone (?!) - in the road, I should add - and demanded in a voice only slightly lower than Krakatoa erupting to know what my "problem" was. I asked if you thought it was OK for a member of your team to shout abuse at a woman and child in the street. You said it was. I told you that my daughter had cried; you replied - in front of another small child presumably in your care - "I don't give a fuck". You told me I am an awful parent for not immediately running back to tidy up the mess outside your shop that my daughter had inadvertently made worse. And then you delivered your parting shot: "Maybe you should've had 'em when you were younger, before you became an old bag". Now, I've always been fiercely supportive of small businesses in Walthamstow and before this morning I would never have contemplated posting negatively about one on social media. But you know what, Village Bakery? When you scream at my child in the street and try to belittle and humiliate me for having a baby in my mid-thirties, you've pissed on your local business chips and then some. Sharing as the "older" mums of Walthamstow - because I daresay I'm not the only 43 year old with a kid in primary - should probably know what you think of us and our offspring before making an informed decision about where to shop. No love, Me

I'm normally a huge Bread Ahead fan. Whenever I'm at Borough Market, or see them at any of the food…read moremarkets they pop up at, I always get a doughnut and sometimes some bread, and it's delicious. The doughnut is huge and very comparable to one from St John's. But even though I've been at Stratford a few times since Bread Ahead's arrival, I'm always too full and haven't been able to manage a doughnut, and I really wanted to as they have what sounds like the best hybrid ever - an ice cream doughnut. So finally today I made a better plan and managed one. Unfortunately, my expectations just were not met. The man working was rude and dismissive (for example, I said that I'd never had an ice cream doughnut before, and the man scoffed, half-rolled his eyes, and said "It's just ice cream in a doughnut".) So despite the bad start, I was still pretty jazzed for my treat. But, meh, not really great. The soft serve was nice but didn't taste of much, and the doughnut shell didn't really add anything except a mess of sugar. So next time, I'll get a regular vanilla custard doughnut, and hope it's as good as usual and hopefully give Bread Ahead a couple more stars. Today though, service was a 1.5, and the doughnut only a 2.5.

This little place in the Great Eastern Market section of Westfield Stratford does really, really…read moregood doughnuts. Generously filled, and in a selection of flavours including caramel, honeycomb and fruit jams, they look pretty tempting. And they taste great too - the fillings (which clearly are the star of the show) satisfy a sweet tooth without being too sweet. My favourite is the blackberry jam, with its chunks of fruit. They aren't too doughy and are in fact quite light, and they aren't oversugared. I can't wait for the weather to heat up so I can try the ice cream filled version. They also do a huge selection of bread and other bakery products, which I haven't tried but look delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the outlet is well presented and easy to look around. Everything is clearly priced which is unusual in bakeries a lot of the time. They only lost a star because £2.50 is a little steep for a doughnut in my opinion.
