We rented a pontoon boat from Gogebic Lodge. They rent them from sun up to sundown for the entire day which is nice- you can fish in the morning and boat in the afternoon. Fair prices on boat rentals, and you have a gas deposit where you get back the money for whatever gas money you don't use. Boats are pet friendly which was nice since we had our dog with us on the trip! There was live bait available to purchase if you plan to do some fishing. Our only complaint was that there is no one sitting at the boat rental counter, the bar tender is the one you go through. She was very busy at the time, and it took a long time to return the boat. read more

A nice place to stop when snowmobiling. Has a decent size bar with tables for eating. The menu has a variety of sandwiches including an Italian beef that unfortunately I didn't have but it looked really tasty. We rented a place less then a mile from the Lodge. We decided to rent a pontoon boat for 3 days out of our week stay. The lady tending bar and taking calls (when I tried booking it) very crabby. So we decided to only rent there one day. But 1.5 weeks before our stay the other place we rented pontoon boat from called us and told us the pontoon we rented broke. I was not upset I was like I will order the smaller pontoon at the Lodge. We just wanted to have a bigger pontoon. When we checked in for the 1st day rental I asked about the deposit on gas why it was so much. He told me that's how they do it you will get a refund back after they fill it up each night after using it. On our last day checking it out and still haven't seen an itemized bill since no one was by the desk and we just left because they charge the credit card. I waited for my CC to be posted from them and found out they charged me for the 3 days of using each different pontoon boat almost all the deposit for gas. I was furious because I know we didn't use that much gas each time and the last day we had the rental we barely went out because the kids were exhausted from the sun and trip. So I have called and emailed constantly for an itemized bill since beginning of August, and no response. I want to see what we used. No response EVER. I figured out everything with my CC bill and they ripped me off and I want a refund. It's been over 1 month and they have yet to give me what I have asked for and I have the right to see. Where do I even begin? We stopped in for dinner only for us to be sitting at a table for ~10 minutes before we got menus. Our waitress neglected to tell us the specials nor make any pleasant commentary as she did with all of the other parties. While the food came surprisingly fast, every other part of the service could not have been slower. Taste wise the food was pretty good (besides the sad and empty salad bar), but I would not go back due to the unfair "service" we received. The cabin appeared clean but the beds felt like they had bugs on them. I felt very itchy when I lay on the bed so I took a shower and got our own bedding to use. We used our own bedding- a sleeping bag and our own blankets. We rented a pontoon to use. My husband left his credit card with the service girls at the desk and they said would return it after we used the pontoon. When we got into the pontoon for an afternoon of fishing, the ignition would not turn over. So a maintenance man had to come and "fix" it. It turned over. So we went out to the Lake to fish. We turned off the engine. When we wanted to move to another area, the pontoon engine would not turn over. We had to call the lodge and ask for someone to come and fix it. The girl who answered the phone told us to call maintenance and write down this number. We did not have paper or a pencil/pen. She sounded irked that she had to contact maintenance. BUT, maintenance came promptly and fixed it. The maintenance man said they would give us a break on the gas used because of the troubles with the ignition. BUT we felt so uncomfortable about going to another part of the lake because of the ignition failure, we decided to stay in view of the lodge with the pontoon idling so we could get back as recommended by the man who fixed the pontoon. After a few hours, we came back in. The gas tank was still full. My husband went into the lodge to retrieve his credit card and they lost it. He was so angry, that he came and got me to straighten it out. At first, there were 3 girls behind the counter. After I started speaking there was only one remaining. I was pretty mad. It took the chef to find the card after the 3 girls could not find it and it was found where it was placed initially. 3 girls looked for it before the chef found it after 30 minutes. Injury added to insult is that Gogebic Lodge charge us $70 for gas as we viewed the charges on our credit card. The tank was still full and really negligible gas was used. No break was made for the gas or the failure of ignition. Additionally, the curtains in the cabin were so sheer, that we had to place the bedspread over the curtain rod to achieve privacy and keep out the view of the large group of vacationers who were peering into our cabin. We will never go back. I am sorry that Don "BIG D" the original owner has passed away. I am sure he would never allow this kind of activity to go on. He must be rolling over in his grave. We went here for our honeymoon 25 years ago and it was a great place. Don took care of us. We will never return. If I could give no stars I would. I do not recommend the Gogebic Lodge. read more

Great bar and restaurant! Lots going on here with campsites and cabin rentals and boat rentals just to name a few. But we went just for drinks and had a great time the bartenders were friendly and attentive. The next night we went my fiancée got the walleye which was amazing with fries like I've never had. They were sliced thin but pillowy fried and delicious. I got the brisket nachos which had a couple different cheeses not to mention smoked brisket which was perfectly cooked. The owner was working the kitchen and it showed as everyone around the bar left full and had nothing but good things to say! Will be back next time we come to this awesome Michigan inland lake. It is a great place - there are great amenities. HOWEVER, reservations were cancelled. Very disapointing. As Seinfeld said, "you know how to take the reservation, just not keep the reservation, which is the most important part." So be forewarned and have a backup. We waited for 10 minutes after we seated ourselves to even get menus to look at. Then it took another 10 minutes to get plastic cups of ice water. Our server was non-welcoming and made us feel like we were an inconvenience to her. She first said that adding side salads to our meals would be $6.95, even though the menu said it was $2. Then she came back and told us that it would not be $6.95, but $4, which is when I said the menu says $2. Anyway, the food was just ok, but the service was one of the most HORRIBLE experiences I've ever had. We felt neglected and unwelcome, especially since we were ignored and treated differently than people at the one other table. We should've known it was a bad sign when there was only one table eating dinner when we arrived on a Saturday night. Once we got our check, it took another 15 minutes for our server to process our payment. And FYI, they add a 3.5% surcharge if you use a credit card. This was a very disappointing experience and we will not be back! read more

WHAT WRONG WITH THE BARTENDER? This is a great location for a resort. I've been here two times, once for fish fry during covid and again on Sunday. I guess it was the last day for the snowmobile trails to be open. We were the only customers beside another couple. There was one cook and one bartender/server. We sat at the bar to eat. After asking for recommendations we ordered French onion soup, cheese quesadilla with salsa and sour cream on the side and boneless chicken wings tossed in the sauce. It didn't take long and our food arrived, everything was cooked well. I think the French onion soup was from a package but it was tasty as was the quesadilla (we loved the stretchy cheese they used). The "boneless chicken wings" were really chicken nuggets and they served them with the sauce on the side. I mentioned it but we let it go, not that big of a deal, it happens! Next, she brought us (while we were eating our order) a curd burger, French fries and chicken wings. we looked at her and she really didn't know that it was the other couples order until we said something. She seemed mixed up for some reason and said it's easier when I'm busy! ok, weird but no harm, no fowl! She asked if we needed anything before she took a smoke break telling us an off duty employee was going to fill in while she went outside. It is important to note that she was friendly and we have no complaints about her personality. I was laser focused on her at this point though because I thought after the third time of asking me where we lived and telling us how much she loved it there I suspected something wasn't right with her. We stayed about two hours and I asked to close our tab. In the meantime, a single man came in had a beer and two women came in as well as a couple off duty employees. The first tab she brought us was not ours. The second tab was not ours, the third tab was not ours, each time I repeated what we had ordered and each time she brought the wrong tab. I finally said "you don't want me to come back there" half joking and seriously curious what the heck was wrong with this woman. Was it drugs, dementia? We didn't see her drinking. She finally figured out that she never created a ticket in the system and was just adding our drinks to the open tabs. (Why did it take 3 tries looking at the open tabs before adding drinks or presenting to the customer would have solved the mystery. she was embarrassed, felt bad and was genuinely sorry. my partner didn't like that I was impatient with her. She told us and the other couple a story essentially bad mouthing her former employer. I thought that's really unprofessional looking for sympathy? Not sure. Truth be told I was a golf club manager and ran food and beverage for over a decade. I grew up here. I know what to expect I know this isn't Vail but she truly should be talked to. I know finding good employees is tough. I'd look closely at her and your pour costs too! If she has dementia I feel sorry for her, but as a former business operator I'd be grateful to know this info if it was my business or employee. We will be back though! Very disappointed with the owner. Reservations and a deposit were made 1 year in advance for a family reunion of about 50 people. Owner decided to cancel our reservation and refund deposit so that another group could use the lodge during the same time. This was all done AFTER plans were made, reservations made and the deposit accepted. Have been to the lodge before and thought it was wonderful (thats why we wanted to hold the reunion at the same location). But the ethics behind this action are questionable. read more

This resort has the potential to be absolutely fabulous. Unfortunately, the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Although everyone from the staff to the owner were very friendly, I experienced last minute cancellation issues with them, from scheduling conflicts with reservations to telling us they ran out of lobsters we had reserved a week in advance only to be informed after we had the prime rib substitute that they actually had eight lobsters left over that they had to announce over the speakers were up for sale. Stopped by 15 places in 2 days sledding and this by far the worst. The gas was a dollar higher that anywhere in the UP. Wont visit again ever. read more

So very disappointing! Our first time to Lake Gogebic, I trusted their website to make our choice of places to camp. We reserved a camping spot from Oct. 10-16, 2011. The website says the fee is $22.00 per day, we were charged $25.00 per day. We reserved full hookups, but when we arrived on the reserved date, the owner told us he had given that spot away and that we could park out by the highway or go back behind the cabins where there were 5 sites. Those sites only had electric and water, and we never did find the advertised dump station. The photos must be very, very old, as it certainly looks very different and run down in person. The owner had spread campfire ashes throughout the campground part that we had to park in, to fill the holes that should have been filled with gravel or dirt. What a mess it was tracking that in the camper! The owner said not to worry about it, it would rain the next few days, and he was right, and it only made it much worse, like wet charcoal soup. I ruined a blanket and had to throw it away from laying it down on the ground over the ashes outside our door as I got very tired of wiping those black charcoal bits and marks off everything inside. The dining/food is not great, service is not friendly. If you are not local, you are basically ignored. We were charged an extra 50 cents to have a side of ranch dressing to go with the provided marinara sauce to share an order of mozzarella sticks ($7.95) with my husband. He had to ask the waitress to please fill up his beer glass as he was drinking a premium draft beer for $2.50 a glass, and she poured a 1/2 glass of head foam. They advertise that you receive cable/Satellite TV, but you get only 4 channels, and they change mid-program if the bartender changes their TV's to suit a customer. Internet is only available in the lodge dining room, not in the campground or cabins. If you are camping and plan to use their showers, you may think twice. They are carpeted, look old and gross, and are not clean. It is a very musty smelling building, where the coin operated laundry, showers and hot tub are located. The lodge's gift shop is a far cry from what is shown on the website. This is a long review, but I want to relate what our experience was really like so you can make your own decisions based on the reviews from folks who have 'been there, done that'. Myself and three others chose to stay at this location for an ice fishing weekend, a mistake we will never make again. It started when we first arrived. We went to open the door to our cabin and it opened only half way because it got stuck on the warped floor. At that point we went to turn on the outside light to unload our gear and that didn't work. We replaced the light bulb and still no luck. We found out later that if you slam the door or pound on the wall it would come on ( loose wires). In the cabin, the hot and cold water were connected opposite of what they should be. The high quality plywood ceiling, and ceiling tiles with water stains left something to be desired. The ceiling fan in the living room was missing a fixture and had hot wires exposed. The furniture was old with boards under the cushions to keep you from sinking in. The worst part was that the furnace was not working properly. That night we were expecting 30 below wind chills. The first person they sent to look admitted he knew nothing about furnaces looked around and said there was nothing he could do and left. We sought out the manager and when he came he insisted there was nothing wrong. When we showed him we couldn't get it above 62 and the furnace blew cold air he became defensive and rude. When we threatened to leave he brought a space heater and refused to compensate us. I could go on and on. NEVER STAY HERE AND WARN YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY! read more
