At one counter we're the butcher seemed to understand my plight aNd recommended that I check out the Big Red Market in Thorold. I did and was I impressed by the cuts of meat readily available. I ended up leaving with a Blade roast, a Beef brisket and a Corned Beef roast from a barrel. Needless to say I'll be back again soon for something else to enjoy making - in 3 days I've already cooked a corned beef dinner and a Chinese Beef Brisket stew with Daikon Radish. I have been there a few times for lunch and it is really busy at that time. There are quite a few companies around and a lot of people come here to get their lunch. The opening hours are shorter compared to its Toronto counterparts. I have not tried many items from their menu, but the chicken schnitzel is really good. The Harvest Barn also serves as a great alternative to the supersized Mega-grocery stores which are all too commonly found in suburban cities across North America (which also tend to import their produce from all over instead of fresh, locally grown food). Outside they have picnic tables if you feel like enjoying the sunshine, and also a small kids play area (ie. small wooden train) which is great for distracting the little rascals or hyperactive adults. They also have Fruit Baskets, Deli Trays, and Sandwich Platters. I've never had the pleasure of having any, but I wouldn't hesitate in ordering seeing as everything else I've tried has been pretty fantastic. The bottom line, I highly recommend the Harvest Barn because it's healthy, locally grown food and they take pride in the quality of service that they provide (and it shows).

Love the assortment, the freshens of cold cuts and overall the courteous service. Unfortunately there are not too many places you can get "old time" naturally smoked deli any more. Let's keep in mind, that when these places are gone, they are gone for good, and you can eat deli soaked in smoky water and artificial flavors. Come early if you want the bread or buns though, they're usually gone within a couple of hours. The service is always very good and the deli keeps the line moving pretty quickly so you're not ever waiting too long. The store also serves a delicious variety of hot foods in the back, the veal parmesan on a bun is a great value lunch meal. The entire store has a really nice semi-European style and feel to it, accentuated by the fact that they offer many imported Italian goods. Take a chance and venture inside, you'll be glad you did.
