Yesterday, Friday November 8, 2024 I sang songs written by author/musician Heather Buchanan and Tracy Kash for Heather's newest novel titled, VICTORS. It is about Black musicians who went to France to help fight in World War I. Ultimately, they were largely responsible for our victory and when they weren't fighting they were playing music, sharing the new jazz sound which influenced not only Europe but the world. My dress, purse, fan, long strand of pearls and headpiece, all purchased from the Peacock Room in the Park Shelton were a smash hit! The greenhouse itself is huge, well organized, and surprisingly easy to shop despite how much they have. I'd honestly love to see what the selection looks like even earlier in May, though planting too early in Michigan always feels a little risky. Prices felt very fair too, especially compared to some of the hanging basket and planter prices at local markets and pop-ups. Definitely a spot I'll be returning to.

Our landscape firm recommended that we go to Telly's to select a special red maple for an area on…read moreour property that is outside where our landscaper's work. We found a beautiful specimen, bought it and contracted to Telly's to plant it. This was in September of 2025. Now seven months later, the specimen is dead. We took pictures to the store and I spoke to the person who sold me the tree originally. He told me he needed to consult an "expert". I was introduced to another man who looked at my pictures and fairly immediately diagnosed that there was something wrong with our soil and that is what killed the tree. He indicated that their warranty did not cover disease. He showed me the treatment for the soil and explained how to do it. We spent $90 on this treatment. After consulting with our landscaper, there were several things that were suggested, but here's the most important one. The tree dying so quickly would suggest that the disease may have been in the potted plant's soil WHEN it was planted. The landscaper found it unusual that if the disease were newly introduced to the plant from our soil that it would have died so quickly. At any rate, we will never buy another specimen tree like this from Telly's. This experience really felt like a "setup" between the two employees. We had to speak to the guy who knows how to "sell" this whole soil disease excuse. As consumers, we were in no position to argue. We'd suggest that you be very careful buying an expensive specimen from Telly's and risking having your money go up in smoke in just a few months time!

I visited this location about a month ago, became obsessed with a plain green sari with a bold rhinestone collar, and came back tonight to buy it with the bargaining skills of my expert assistants. The price tag was a shocking $350- far more than I was willing to spend, especially for something that would only be worn once of twice in my life. Trying to get the merchant to come down on the price was difficult, as they said the fabric was some high quality "shimmer" material. Personally, I've seen what looks like the same fabric used on plus-size girls clubbin' shirts at Fashion Bug, but I'm no expert. After a few more attempts at bargaining, we finally got the price down to $230- still too rich for my blood. The staff at Rima seemed reluctant to help us, which was painful to deal with considering that most everything was behind the counters in the cubbies lining the walls. We managed to get them to bring out a few saris in the color and size that I was most interested in, and they pointed the way to the dressing room for me to try them out. In the back, beyond 3 old men diligently hunched over sewing machines working to alter and create new dresses, was the fitting room- basically a makeshift closet so small that you only have room to slip something on and look at yourself up close in the mirror inside. Nothing compares to the selection at Rima- they have every style and color imaginable, and the shop itself is full to the brim with garments. If money was no object and I absolutely needed the best, fanciest sari, I guarantee this would be the place I would go. However, for my occasion and any situation where I didn't have to be ultra fancy, I'd rather go somewhere with better service, lower prices, and an easy to navigate selection readily accessible to me.

They also have crafted items from artistians from around Michigan. It seems to think that most visitors have much in common with art museum types not families visiting a family history attraction which it is. While the service is still top notch, not every thing as clear prices posted or not enough lower price items to give families with children a keepsake to remember a maybe once in a lifetime visit. I have started to wait until membership weekends to get anything because of the higher membership discount.

They don't have to buy anything and so you better kiss their behinds. Even if they don't want anything they might feel bad for you because you were so nice. 2) The prices need to be low enough to justify buying something useless. 3) You have to gave good stuff that people want, though they don't need. Also, it helps to have things that one has never seen before and thus must purchase it because they may never see it again. Well, Scout is a nice enough store. The store sells kitch, curios and art. The inside is nice and bright. There are some interesting items, but nothing that I can't live without. Also, I've seen a lot of the same items around the area. The prices were probably comparable but were still pricey. I don't think there was anything for less than $10 or I didn't find it. I give Scout 3 stars because the lady behind the counter was not very friendly or helpful. When I walked into the store she didn't acknowledge me right away or ask if I needed anything. Instead she just talked to a friend for almost the whole 15 minutes we were in there. I was the first to say hello as I entered. Eventually, she engaged us in conversation a little, but it wasn't the friendliest of conversations. Scout had some unique gift ideas and art pieces. Over all the quality stuff was very expensive. The rest could probably be purchased at other stores of a similar nature. I don't really have a reason to go back here.
