(Derry - Galway 7.25am Service) I use this service (due to work commitments) two or three times a month. I continually observe the plesant courtious well informed drivers attitude toward all passangers. They ARE CONSISTENT in cheerfully carrying out multi-tasking duties - from safety , being on time, advising timetables, sometines receiving blunt abuse, from frustrated bad mannered passengers. I congraluate the team behind the scenes incl., Inspectors and desk staff you are doing a wonderful appreciated service. But its the Drivers that make Bus Eireann roll smooth and safely. CROSS RIVER FERRY…read more The Cross River ferries, operated by local firm Doyle Shipping, have been a feature of Cork Harbour for a good few years now. Some people say it is expensive enough - €7.00 for car return - but it is very convenient, saving you the long road journey from Cobh (Rushbrooke) to Passage (Glenbrook) or vice versa. At the Rushbrooke (Cobh) terminal this morning, I was impressed by the speedy turnaround and the ease of driving on and off. The "journey" takes just five minutes and the service (capacity 28 cars) operates throughout the year, 7.00am to 10.00pm each day. There may be the odd disruption to service, e.g. because of fog, but if you are a regular you can sign up to the text service to get SMS notice of interruptions.

The airport is quite small, so there is not a huge number of bags and passengers to keep track of. The bags always are unloaded from the airplanes very very quickly, I have never had to wait more than 5 mins from hitting the baggage hall to walking out the front door. The computer systems though seem to be unreliable, as around 80% of the time they are down and passengers have to wait to check in as the girls have to check lists by hand and give stickers instead of printed boarding cards.

COBH'S DEEP WATER QUAY Cobh has seen famine ships and…read moretransportation ships come and go over the years but now the town's Deepwater Quay welcomes luxury liners on cruises around Europe. Buses and taxis were coming and going when I called there today to see the Crown Princess, one of many to visit this summer. Check out the schedule at http://www.visitcobh.com and perhaps add a visit to see a liner to your activities in the East Cork area. The quay is just a few minutes from the Fota Wildlife Park and indeed not much longer from the East Cork Parkway that links the city and Youghal. The Princess line makes many of these calls and their Crown Princess is certainly a large and impressive ship and is due again on the 12th of August. Oh, and by the way, even if there is no liner in, Cobh has a string of attractions to keep you busy, including a cruise of Cork Harbour. I must try that next time.
