While the Oyster Shack was seemingly a…read morenice house, there were numerous deferred maintenance issues that we were forced to deal with during our stay. During our 7 day vacation, we had issues requiring someone in the house almost daily with most of the issues left unresolved for the next renter. We cleaned up a flood in the kitchen on our first night. The handyman came and tightened the fittings but we continued to have water leak from a different area under the sink. I should also mention that there was a large bowl under the sink to catch the water along with water stains indicating this issue had been there for a while. The second flood was in the downstairs bathroom around the camode which required a Plummer to come and replace the broken mold at the base of the camode. This issue had also been present for sometime as the laundry room below smelled like a sesspool where the camode had been leaking into the ceiling. This room is not air conditioned so with the heat and the stench it was basically unusable. The refrigerator was off balance "rocking" which made the door hard to close. This was a problem with kids not remembering to force close the door to keep the contents cold. The handyman balanced the fridge to prevent the rocking but the door still would not close without force and was still misaligned. The biggest irritant was that the cable was out for 4 days. The cable company fixed the issue quickly by replacing the set top boxes but it took 4 days and daily calls to the management company. There were other problems as well including urine in the camode upon our arrival. The shower curtain was moldy and discusting and while the management company promised to replace it, they didn't do so during our stay. The towel rack in the upstairs bathroom was out of the wall and the door to the master bedroom would not close or lock. When I reported this to the management office, the woman told me that she was there on Sunday and that "the door closed just fine". Needless to say, the response we received to the many issues reported was unacceptable. The frustration we experienced warranted a review. I've often given positive reviews when appropriate but this is the 1st negative review I've given. A vacation should be spent without daily interaction with the management company and contractors (phone calls, handyman, Plummer, cable rep, etc). The rude response from the management company and the numerous promises that were not kept to check status and call back were just over the top. I will use other companies for future rentals.

I was able to take a few steps on their private boardwalk and take a daily stroll on the beach. Soaking and relaxing by the pool is another wonderful experience! I have visited Saint George Island twice before, they couldn't compare to Recharge by the Sea. I look forward to visiting again and again!

There is a lot of wildlife and water to explore and enjoy and the folks at Journeys of St. George Island have always been extraordinarily helpful as we've tried to do that. We've rented kayaks from them, bought gear, asked questions and just enjoyed kind of hanging out with them around the island and in Apalach. They have a very laid back vibe and attitude but are super-serious about listening to what you want or are trying to do and then meeting your needs. They've gone WAY out of their way to make our vacations fun and I can't say that enough (I have MS and they've been incredibly cool and kind helping me get the equipment/modifications I need to stay active). I looked at my handful of reviews not too long ago and saw that I only give five-star reviews. I feel kinda bad about that, but really it's just so few places or experiences made/make me ecstatic and when I find one I want to recognize it. Jeannie's is one of them!

St George Island is beautiful and having a vacation rental through Fickling was a great experience…read more They have lots of properties for rent including apartments right above their office which are nicely done with nice updates and right in center of town. March 2015, I stayed at a property called Turpentine on the plantation side, gated community at one end of the island. They have lots of trails for walking and biking. You can also take a short walk to the beach. The community has a gym and a pool. Everyone is super friendly and it was the most relaxing and beautiful vacation I've had in a long time. They have a few shops in the center of the island near the lighthouse. Some food stores a bit pricey but you can go off the island to the town of Apalachicola where they have Piggly Wiggly and Gulfside IGA store. Make sure you visit Apalachicola while you are staying, they have lots of shops in the center of town. Gibson Inn has the freshest oysters and nice cozy atmosphere. I've been to this area twice and enjoy something new every time. The view of the stars at night on the island is amazing, especially on dark streets away from street lights....I can still see them in my head....breathtaking.
