Getting fiber into my diet has always been difficult, and when I started living away from home for college, it became a challenge sent from hell. I couldn't save money for myself and at the same time buy enough veggies and fruits to meet my minimum weekly requirements . Also, please go away, unhealthy meals tempting me with your cheapness. #thestruggleisreal At least, I used to think that. But with the discovery of Go! Salads I have been saved. Their menu boasts locally sourced, organic products (Malunggay ciabatta bread? Yes please!) in affordable dishes. Since I'm experimenting with replacing one meal a day with juice, I ordered only a smoothie. While I thoroughly enjoyed the blend of fruits and light hint of cinnamon, I'd like to say: damn you, lady at the next table for ordering a sandwich and making me envious. It looked and smelled amazing. Now I really need to come back next week to try something else! They deliver too, but in keeping with the healthy theme of the restaurant, I think I'll just walk there.

For me, a salad shines with a good dressing. That's why it's called dressing: it shouldn't be…read moremasked with artificial flavors, and neither should you eat it undressed. The salad, not you. And in all its simplicity, Go! Salads's lemon basil vinaigrette made my salad sing. I detected lemon basil, a bit of honey, a squirt of lemon juice, salt, and olive oil, just enough to bring out each salad component's flavors. I inhaled the full serving in 5 minutes. Aside from the Peachy Traveller salad, I was also impressed with their Balsamic Mushroom Chickpea sandwich, a thick, six-inch long ciabatta loaf stuffed with this huge slab of sweet-tangy and juicy mock meat, topped with fresh cucumber slices. Incredulous, I had to verify with the server if this was indeed the chickpea filling, not tofu. Affirmative. Their pita bread with garlic hummus was nothing out of the ordinary. But for one slice of pita, there was plenty of hummus left over to dip my sandwich in. Their Eastwood branch is cozy, with a private nook for more intimate dates. Intimacy aside, I like my privacy even in public, so this tiny quiet spot away from prying eyes is a plus for me. HOWEVER: For a salad joint, Go! Salads does not serve plenty of vegan-friendly options. All of their salads either have meat or animal by-products like cheese and honey. You'll have to ask the server to omit these, or you can gun for their green smoothies, and some of their sandwiches and soups. Their specialty teas are a bit watery and bland; the cupcakes, flavorful as they are, tend to be dry.The tea could swap some of its moisture for the cupcakes' sweetness, and life would be perfect. At the time of my visit, the staff blasted OPM rock music on the radio, which didn't fit the store's peaceful ambience and ethos. The other patron, a girl in her twenties, was deeply immersed in a book, so I'm sure that the loud, blaring tunes were an unwelcome distraction as well. This is a place to detox, and that includes clearing your mind of noise, not adding to it. The staff obviously was playing loud music for themselves, not for the clientele. STILL: I plan to return, this time for the smoothies.

Oorder lang ako dito ng dalawang gourmet salad (P100.00/each), isang green smoothie (P100.00) at dalawang pita with hummus or sun dried tomato snack (P50.00/each) at buhay na ako mula brunch hanggang hapunan. Kahit na puro healthy snacks ang pinanda nila, masarap ang timpla nito kaya talagang puntahan ng mga nagdidiyeta na gusto ng magaan pero masarap na pagkain.

Previously seeing a photo posted by a friend, I knew I had to try Wicked Kitchen's smores for myself. Their version is served with the chocolate topped with torched marshmallows on a hot plate, with the Graham crackers in a separate bowl. Upon seeing it, I thought the marshmallows looked like torched clouds. Needless to say, we dug in and had bite after bite (or rather cracker after cracker) of this wickedly yummy creation. I came upon the conclusion that they named this dessert Greedy because it makes you feel that way after getting a bite. At less than PhP200, it can satisfy about two to three people. Though again, you really can get a bit greedy with this especially if you like marshmallows, chocolate, crackers, or the combination of all three. It didn't just look like clouds, but tasted like a piece of heaven, too.

Wicked Kitchen is one of the older restaurants in the South Maginhawa area. The place serves Australian and Western favorites such as bangers and mash, fish and chips, sandwiches and their iconic desserts. These desserts are named after the seven deadly sins. My favorite is Greed, a deconstructed S'mores dessert. It has a huge serving of molten chocolate in a skillet, with torched marshmallows on top. They serve it with a couple pieces of Graham Crackers. I have gone back here several times for the same exact dessert every time, and it doesn't disappoint. I love how they turned a very popular campfire treat on its head and created a photogenic and delicious dessert dish out of it. That just goes to show the innovativeness of the chefs and the developers behind Wicked Kitchen.

Cold-pressed juices from healthful fruits and vegetables are just so much better than soda or soft drinks that are packed with unhealthy food coloring, additives and a lot of sugar that spikes your energy level in a flash but gives you a nasty crash. I find that what I really need most of the time for that healthy energy and vitamin boost are natural and green juices that help rehydrate and load me up with electrolytes and nutrients. I like The Daily Jusa because it is a very convenient way to add vegetables and fruits into my diet. I don't get to cook much these days and I like to replace my fruit and veggie intake with one of their meal replacement juices. I always get the Green Energizer juice, which is cold-pressed greens with papaya and pineapple. On detox days, I would also get the Lemon Flush, which has lemon and cayenne pepper. They also have a bunch of different nut milks, and people who are lactose intolerant (or mildly lactose intolerant, like me) will love their cashew milk. The prices are a bit expensive, but I think juicing in general is expensive and its only fair that you pay a premium for well-prepared juices. I think it's worth it and The Daily Jusa is one of the cheaper brands for cleanses, juices and detox plans in the market. You can order their weekly plans which comes with your very own thermal bag. You can subscribe to their bottle programs, and be on your way to a healthier diet. I am glad The Daily Jusa is only a few blocks away.

Personally, the juice is ridiculously expensive. Again, something I've come to expect from eating organic. Personally, the salads are a better deal. They're around 110php which is definitely much cheaper than going to the grocery and buying all these ingredients and making the salad myself. It's good for a light (and I mean really light. Fruit and veg burn easily) lunch or snack. What I do like is the fact that they mix fruit with vegetable. I've never been a fan of purely vegetable salads. I blame my sweet tooth. But fruit? I can have fruit all day. (The watermelon mint is great in the summer)

I love a good salad, and eating healthy is fine with me. Some will dismiss salads as rabbit food, but no one can deny the health benefits of eating fresh greens. Craft Salad's salads are too expensive for a food court. Their prices belong more to fine dining restaurants. For samplers, their regular Craft salad goes for P220, Thai crunch at P250, and Craft prawn Caesar at P270. It may be an unfair comparison, but didn't fastfood joint Wendy's have an assemble your own for around a hundred bucks not too long ago? Their pasta and rice meals are more realistic, price-wise. Their vegetable buccatini, smoked ham arugula pesto goes for P160, while their stir fried shrimp, asparagus and bell peppers on brown rice is at P200. I don't consider myself a cheapskate, but I believe in getting good value for money.

In my opinion, there is nothing remarkable nor exceptionally healthy about their food. The container-van like structure produces mediocre salads and drinks. I have tried the Fiesta taco salad, which was a sad little plate unfitting of the "fiesta" moniker. For P110, I felt robbed. They also have a Guyabano Wheatgrass Juice with chia seeds in it, which was a bit too watery for my taste. The Z is where you would go to get really good and cheap food, but I think with its current performance, Health Break will have a hard time catching up with its neighbors. However, you could opt for this if you don't want to dig into the rather "unhealthy" fare around you - what with burgers and greasy fried food that is rampant in the little food court.

I ordered the grilled fish with salad and brown rice, and for P89, it was quite good, though understandably, the grilled fish won't be so big because of the low price. I have to admit, though, that while the stall is "Health Break," that was the only meal option I could order. The rest would not make a very filling meal for me, like the fish fingers, or the kani salad. But I'm glad the grilled fish meal came to my rescue during a time I thought I wouldn't be able to eat anything.

I ordered the Cheaper than a Facial salad, and my friend had the Go Geisha. I sampled some of my friend's Go Geisha and it was delicious. I really enjoyed my Cheaper than a Facial, although halfway in I realized that my salad was drenched in its Thai lemongrass dressing. I literally poured a good few tablespoons of dressing out of my salad. SO. MUCH. DRESSING. (-1 star) I eventually asked the staff if it would be possible to ask for extra lettuce since the remainder of my salad had become soggy, showing them the dressing that I had already poured out of my salad. They happily obliged and didn't charge me for the extra lettuce (+1 for that!). I will make sure to ask for dressing on the side next time, and recommend that you do, too. Portions are good enough to fill you up an entire meal. I'll be back for sure!
