Good selection of fruits and vegetables - we love the guavas, mangos, and carrots the most! They taste so fresh and more flavorful than what we get in the US. Decent selection of meat, dairy, snacks, cereal, etc too! They have a bakery (with fresh tortillas), pharmacy, a touristy area (bathing suits, shirts, souvenirs, etc), and an area that has prepped food items. They also have a decent alcohol/beer area. Prices are way better than what they charge at the hotel (though you're likely paying for convenience there). Highly recommend this treat to pick up items! This is on the top floor of a shopping mall, though the mall itself has few store these days.

It's located in a shopping mall that seems to be having some occupancy issues, but has an absolutely beautiful atrium, with a decorated dome, fountains- It's amazing! The shopping is a bit rough- it's not exactly the cheapest place to shop in Mexico. It's not the most expensive- that honor seems to belong to the other grocery up the road a mile or two and the Cancun Pointe. The aisles are a bit jammed together, and they certainly cater to the gringo tourista. They have new swimsuits, hats, sunglasses, plenty of cerveza, tequila, mixers, and food. A bakery section offers pan dulces and a variety of things to make sandwiches with. There's a bunch of bottled water, and everything you need to feel at home. I kinda don't care for how they seem to organize this place- whatever they're doing, I haven't figured it out yet. The prices were okay, the selection okay. Okay!

A tub of mango, pineapple, or watermelon was only two dollars each! They also had a lot of baked goods that looked yummy and a small food court. I also tried the flan, which was very delicious and not too sweet (which is how I like it). Overall, great grocery store! I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the area.

Gigante super mercado! This supermarket is huge!…read more This big supermarket has everything you'll need for a beach holiday! It's a regular supermarket, but I suspect that the locals don't shop here at all. The prices are pretty high, and much of the food isn't quite practical. This is a two story grocery store- not counting the parking. Be sure that you don't miss the top floor, where all the liquor and food hall is. Nom! Parking is on the bottom floor. They sell you validation at the cash register. Beware- the grocery bagger is looking for tips. My favorite part of the supermarket is all the cheap Mexican gifts they sell, with clearly marked prices. Actually, many of them are cheaper than the flea market down the way, because you don't have to haggle and deal with the cat calls from the clerks. Beware of the touts selling excursions and whatnot at the entrance. Just because they're in a supermarket doesn't mean they can't take advantage of gringos. This supermarket gets awfully busy in the afternoon. The aisles are narrow. It's best to come at an off time.

Is it weird that one of my favorite parts of going on vacation in foreign countries is exploring…read moretheir grocery stores? Chedraui was definitely the best grocery store on the island as far as selection. Eggs are cheaper than in USA and so delicious. My kids loved the pastry section-- so fresh each morning. Tip: you pick up a large metal platter, use the tongs to select your pastries, and take them to the register at the back to be packaged and priced. Note that you need to bring your own grocery bags and cannot carry in a backpack. If you do you have to leave it at the customer service counter. Chedraui also has anything you may have forgotten for the beach -- hats, sunglasses, sunscreen. Centrally located on the island. We often walked there and then took a cab back with our groceries.

If you are from the US or Canada, there will definitely be some comforts of home that you will need to substitute or do without. Also, there are other things that you may be used to buying that they simply do not have. For example, milk is not available in 1 gallon containers. Coffee creamer is hit or miss. We used cooking cream that was vanilla flavored. They do seem to always have hazelnut creamer if you can live with that instead. Grocery stores in Mexico also have a full selection of liquor. The tequila selection here is greater than what I have seen in a liquor store in the US. This grocery store is also the local appliance center, home goods, and moped dealer but I doubt if you are buying any of that stuff while you are here for your extended stay. They do take credit cards and do not charge you a conversion fee upfront. If you have an elderly person bagging groceries with the checkout person, please tip them. They are not employed and your tip is their wage. Bottom line - This is the largest and best grocery store on Isla Mujeres. It is our go-to location for almost anything we need for our extended stays.

I was in Cancun for a work trip, so I had to see what the local bird scene was talking about. I had…read moreextremely high hopes as I imagined the Mexicans would make a phenomenal rotisserie chicken. As I picked out one of the $7.86 (USD) pollo rostizados from this Super Akí, I had an even bigger rush of gumption. A nice orange tint on the skin, with no visible shrivel, screamed a delectable latin seasoned bird. Morale was high. However, when I took the bird to the parking lot behind this Super Akí for consumption, it took a turn for the worst. As I tried to rip the breast apart, it crumbled in my hand. I've never seen a rotisserie chicken do that. Upon tasting, it just flat out tasted wrong. My taste buds were sounding the alarms, alerting me to stop. I had been trojan-horsed. However, I have dubbed this grocery store chicken series "Chicken Wars," and war is a full contact sport. I had to look myself in the eye and ask "who do you want to be as a man?" I forged on. This tissi turned out to be dead last on my rankings, coming in at 1/10. It currently ranks 80th out of 80 grocery store chickens I have currently tried. I was also sick for about 3.5 weeks after this trip with a brutal stomach bug. I'm not saying it was this chicken, it's more likely that I unknowingly consumed some of the Mexican water, but one can't help but wonder... I'm giving this 3 stars though because it's a nice grocery store, but PLEASE don't pick up a rotisserie chicken from here. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo
