    Waltzing with my instructor

Never danced before so I came in for a few lessons before a destination wedding in Mexico. Ended up staying 8 months, so far. since then, I have danced in the Christmas show, competed in tournaments and enjoyed every lesson. Lessons and instructors at GoDance are top notch. Group lessons are fun and a terrific opportunity to meet new folks while reinforcing the lessons taught by your instructor. The Friday night dance parties allow you to practice social dancing and often have fun themes of either a food type (taco night or breakfast for dinner) or specific attire (costume parties). It is a pleasure to dress up and hit the town with super nice people who are there to dance and enjoy themselves. After a few months, I was invited to compete in a dance competition. Amazing to travel with the team from GoDance. They are all nice people who are passionate about dance. Every tournament I have attended, someone from GoDance has brought home a trophy! That demonstrates (at least to me) that the studio provides excellent instruction in a fun and safe environment. In New Orleans in May 2024, the studio took home awards for Top Student, Top Solo performance (Dancing with the Stars type choreography), Top Teacher and Top Studio! It is a regional competition with dancers from across the USA attending. Impressive win and well deserved. The team made an impression. That said, the students are a mix of new and continuing students. Some are serious dancers and love to compete. Some use the studio for lessons to keep sharp. Some enjoy a date night with dancing. Some come in for beginner lessons on social dancing, like me, before a wedding or cruise ship vacation. Hard to go wrong with exercise, good music and friendly people. P.S. Dancing burns calories... I have even lost some weight!

Very scripted lesson and instructor kept pressuring us to book the next package. Not for what we were looking for.

Preregistration for this specific class is not required. Show up, check in, pay for the class (very reasonable charge) and dance! The studio is located off Lovell Rd on Outlet Dr. I did not see a big outdoor sign but the studio name/logo KDW is located on the front door. The class took place on a Friday night so there were not a lot of other people there or classes. Let me state that I am not a dancer and never was. I'm familiar with group aerobics classes but this class was different because you learn choreography for one song. It's not specifically a fitness class but you definitely get a workout from the dancing and an ab workout from the laughing (also a brain workout from the coordination needed.) This was my first class and I felt very welcomed by Michael and the friendly class participants (new and returning.) I am excited to return for another adult hip hop class taught by Michael. He is a great dancer, choreographer and a fun teacher.

These students develop time-tested friendships with their peers & teachers, and graduate to achieve incredible things in dance & beyond. It is clear their priority is cheerleading. Because of Covid and where we used to live my daughters were behind for their age, but Premier did not help. My two girls did not have great teachers, and were more babysat than pushed. They never got floor time. That was 100% reserved for cheerleaders. They were happy to simply take our money and call it a day and only leveled them up when I brought up how my girls seemed ahead of the group they were in. I put them at the absolute lowest level, so they could get used to it again and get the muscle and coordination back. I knew they would leave that level quickly, but didn't until I took action.

We paid in full a month before the party. When we arrived to the location, we were told, after having to ask, that there would not be an instructor for the class. This was very disappointing as we had told all the parents and kids that there would be one. Premier told us that all of their employees were at a competition. So, they would have known in advance that there was no instructor available and could have let us know prior to our party. We did get a $25 refund but that was only after I emailed and then called them about it. I got no response from my email so I called during business hours. They didn't seem to apologetic on the phone either. It sounded like this was common.

The inside is pretty clean and continuously rearranged week to week based on planned activities. The speaker they use to play music is not too loud for those out there with sensitives. The staff welcoming you in is nice to greet you in and out, and the experience is typically a pleasant and fun atmosphere. This has been a great way for our ASD level 3 child to have an opportunity to be included and participate when he wants to. The structure here is not as strict as like a "Kidstrong" gym where they're constantly trying to round them back to participate - if they don't want to or are not feeling it, then there is no pressure here...and for this family it is appreciated. The "one person per kid and no more" is pretty strictly enforced, to the point of being called out privately during the session for any newbies that may not know. I was pretty annoyed by the way the instructor I had handled it at the time. If I had known kindly or with a sign that made that more clear then we would have not got in trouble, lol. Anyway, there's a viewing area where you can sit and watch in the distance. My -1 star here is around some of the equipment. I hit my head so hard once trying to keep the kiddo safe that I'm pretty sure it was a mild concussion. So, take it from me, be aware of your surroundings. Not all areas are fully padded up, so don't think this is a "my kid can play and I get a break" experience. Prepare for one of you to be hands-on and active - otherwise, someone is getting hurt at some point. My examples are no covers on some of the hard edges on the windows, and to the equipment involving on the hanging bars near the entrance and viewing rooms. I would definitely recommend a strategy around your attendance based on whether or not school is in session or not - it seems that the number can be quite excessive in attendance at times, so if that is a bother to you or your kiddo then plan accordingly. See you there! At least until we breach wanting to cancel one day - our kiddo loves it so much i think we're here until he's burned out on it.

After my experience here, I want to open a franchise of my own one day soon! I am not exactly reflective of a typical student either - I'm in my mid 30s, where this school is clearly aimed at much younger students. Please don't be fooled though, it's not just for kids! If you've always wanted to learn an instrument, this is the place! If you're competent, but want to get better, guess what? They have you COVERED, my brother/sister of melting faces with godly rock. Let me tell you a little story, if you're entranced enough to absorb my words. When I started my tutelage at the Knoxville School of Rock, I was already fairly experienced - as I had been playing guitar, and playing it relatively well for 16 years, give or take a year. I have jammed with dozens of bands, recorded albums, played shows, and even zealously followed true masters of the instrument(guitar) like Buckethead, Richie Blackmore, Zakk Wylde, Joe Satriani, Steve Howe, and Yngwie Malmsteen. However, after all of my skill and experience, I managed to hit a wall. I was in a stylistic/creative and musical rut that I hadn't been able to break out of for years. Within a week or two, I was out of the rut, and I developed better abilities far faster than I had on my own while I was a student. That said, if you're into Nicki Minaj, or something similar, you'll be living your best life. Or whatever they say. If you dig Rush, Priest, and the Scorpions, you'll be living after midnight! Blues or jazz more your scene? You're all set. School of Rock paired me up with not one, but two highly competent teachers of a PERFECT skill level after talking with me on the phone for about ten minutes, if that. There is an unbelievable amount of skill and care taken in student placement, no matter your experience. As an aside for the parents who may be reading, the middle-school aged kids that had their own organized band practice sounded better than about 95% of the semi-professional bands that I have played in, so it's clear that the program works. Bottom line, if you're starting out, have kids, or have played live for years but want to get better, this is a company that cares, and they're worth the investment! Speaking of investment, the first lesson is free, so you know it's good stuff! :)
