One of those was Thompson Roofing, owned by Norm Thompson. Norm did a walk around with me and we discussed the job in detail. He is very knowledgeable, and offered a number of ideas and options to meet our requirements. He took all of the measurements needed to prepare a quote. Once I received all 5 quotes, I saw that Norm's quote was neither the lowest, or highest, but was very detailed, and gave us options that we had requested. We were stuck on shingle color due to fact we are going to change exterior siding and trim color in the spring. We narrowed the colors down to two, and he had houses in the area that had the specific color shingle we were trying to decide between. Made it much easier than just looking at the small samples. Once we picked Thompson Roofing, Norm kept us apprised of the schedule. We mutually agreed on the project dates. On the morning of, his crew arrived early and was ready to go. Norm was also on-site, ensuring everything was in place and made sure our expectations were being met. The crew worked very efficiently and effectively. Stopped for a short lunch break and they were back on the roof. They worked straight through and finished as the sun was beginning to set. Thoroughly cleaned our property so one would ever know they had been there. Only after the job was completed to our satisfaction did the payment come up. Not once did he ever ask for anything up front. He puts his trust in his customers, which is commendable. My wife asked him if he provided a discount for paying in cash. Options: Roman gave me the option to choose one of 3 types/grade of shingle replacement. (Another roofer only had one option). After picking the quality of the shingles I had plenty of color options. Cost: The estimate for the most expensive shingles from Roman was comparable to an estimate I got from another roofer. The final cost was within the range of the initial estimate. Completion: We were hoping to get this done in the early winter but the village wouldn't grant a permit until spring (but at least we tried.. the other roofer would not consider starting the job that late in the year). Roman was able to get a tarp over my roof's bald spot and that stayed for the winter. Once spring arrived we were able to get our permit and complete the project within a few weeks. It looks great. Communication: Roman was awesome at keeping me in the loop and responding to my inquiries.

POURED IN WINTER ICE DAM WATER as a result of short shingles, inadequate flashing, and exposed nail holes!!! Never before an issue in 50+ years. Had two independent roofers take a look at this bad job!! Wheaton roofing finally came out to take a look 4 months after the fact only to pick up loose nails on the roof and to say they don't see a problem with their work. Apparently everyone uses 4" flashing? Asked me to list my to-do list of what I THOUGHT WAS THE PROBLEM! C'mon. This WAS Wheaton Roofing and not someone using their name. Confirmed the invoice/proposal was in fact someone who worked at the company when the job was done. I can't put my parents through the legal issues of fighting a company denying the issues. They deserve better. Going to find someone else that does general contract work AND roofing. Damage needs repair.

It was true that reaching out to the owner and getting back from him was hard at the beginning, because he was in Florida according to another review I found, which was also confirmed with their guy Andy later. I found their email on their website, and Andy replied me after 2 days and said they would come out to inspect next week. They did come and told me they would send out their guys to fix it in the next few days. Amazingly they came back the next day and fixed everything before noon! Because our roof is still under warranty, so they didn't charge us anything. We are very happy they honored the warranty and fixed the roof so fast!
