I use to be a runner solely, but my core was always too weak so this time around I figured I'd supplement my runs with Pure Barre (most challenging workout I've ever done) and get some good-for-me pre-workout and post-workout drinks. My boyfriend (and fitness companion) and I made a pit stop yesterday to Supplement Xpress in search for a post-workout drink for me. This SX is in the same parking lot as the Neighborhood Walmart. It's a little small for a health store, but their selection is a lot smaller than your typical GNC. When we walked in we were greeted and told the staff member what we were looking for. She immediately directed us to their featured brand, Fallout. Any time I'm looking for a specific type of drink that does a specific thing, it never fails that, that is exactly what their featured brand is. At any health store. Seriously, never fails. But we always do our research and look at the different options. SX had about five or six different post-workout drink mixes and they all had different benefits, but Fallout ended up being the best option. One thing that I found slightly alarming was another brand (that I almost went with) that was labeled: There are ingredients in this mix that are known to cause cancer in California. Uhhh... why is this on the shelf? Lesson learned, ALWAYS read the ENTIRE label. Always. The prices were about the same as what I'd expect from GNC with the membership, maybe a tad bit more. Since SX is basically down the street from me, it's a lot more convenient which is a huge plus. Although, I kind of still prefer GNC just because they have a bigger selection and they have some killer sales like their BOGO half off. But again SX is pretty close for me so in a bind that's where I'll go. And they also have pre-made meals if you don't have time to meal prep (I'm not into all that because I like my food unhealthy and flavorful, but it's an option).

I've been sick on and off for about a month, so I finally decided to see a doctor. I was pleasantly surprised that this office offered same-day appointments. The receptionist was kind and helpful and sent me the paperwork ahead of time so I could complete it before arriving and hopefully be seen quicker. I arrived at 3:32 PM. After 40 minutes of waiting, I asked the front desk how much longer it would be. I was told the doctor was still with patients. Because I was feeling terrible, I asked if I could wait in my car, which they said was fine. Another 20 minutes passed, making it over an hour of waiting. At that point, I decided to leave and go home to rest. I was sick with bronchitis and had left my two young boys with my disabled mother, so waiting indefinitely was not an option for me. As I was pulling out, the receptionist ran outside trying to get me to come back in. Later, I received a call from the doctor explaining the delay and stating that she was hurt that I had left. While she was polite and offered a free consultation, I was disappointed that the situation was justified rather than acknowledged. I believe that when mistakes happen, owning them goes a long way. I was also told that other patients understand how long visits can take, but I personally am not okay with waiting over an hour past my appointment time. I understand delays happen, but clear communication is key. Had I been told upfront that the office was running behind or short-staffed, I would have appreciated the honesty and could have made an informed decision. Bottom line: my time is valuable, too. I will continue looking for a medical provider who prioritizes patient time and communicates delays clearly. If you don't mind long waits, this may be a good provider for you. For me, urgency and respect for appointment times matter.

Today I placed an order at 10:30 am online and thought it was funny that by 5pm I didn't hear back. I called to follow up and essentially the lady on the phone told me she couldn't look up the order because she didn't have access to the order number nor the order. I always order from the Gateway store and they have never had a problem looking up my orders. Long story short, the team member gave up on me and my order and said that because the item isn't in stock and they couldn't look up the item number, she could no longer help me. She even invited me to the store so she could show me the computer so I could see for my self that she doesn't have the access. Once she said that, I said I get that you don't have it in stock but what do you have in stock. I can't believe that person gave up so quick. I ended up calling the 866 number and they were able to help me. My takeaway from that phone conversation is to still order from The Vitamin Shoppe but avoid the Sunland Park location and go to the Gateway location where they can still help and not give up so quickly. She was so hung up on what they didn't have in stock that they forgot to look up what they did have so I could get it. ‍‍.
