I have been blessed to have had many helpful people cross my path in my life. Due to my military Service-connected disabilities I am unable to drive. For my care through VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System I use Reno VA Veterans Transportation Network "VTN" which is part of the US Department of Veterans Affairs "VA". I have no complaints. Mona and her admin staff are professional, friendly, courteous, and well-trained. The drivers are well-trained. The vehicles are well-maintained. CDC rules are followed. VA ICare is followed. VTN will schedule rides a month out. Open 0800 (8am) - 1430 (2:30pm) M - F, closed all Federal holidays and weekends. On Snow Days, VTN follows the schedule of the school district with morning trips on a two-hour delay. During school closures, there is no VTN transportation. "VTN guidelines permit volunteer participation in providing transportation to Veterans using a volunteer's privately-owned conveyance or a government-owned vehicle, including donated vehicles, county vehicles, DAV Department (State) or Chapter (local) vehicles, public transportation and contracted transportation." Reno VA Veterans Transportation Network is located inside Ioannis A. Lougaris VA Medical Center at the VA Community Affairs office on the first floor by the hallway to the Prosthetic department. As part of Veterans benefits US Department of Veterans Affairs "VA" Community Affairs Office provide free rides to and from VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System in Reno, Nevada to Veterans who don't have other transportation options. VA Community Affairs, which is part of VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement, administers VTN. DAV (Disabled American Veterans) donates vehicles for VTN use. The VA maintains the government owned VTN vehicles. Volunteer drivers donate their time to drive the government-owned VTN vehicles. The VA trains, supervises and schedules the VTN drivers, who are all background checked. It is non-profits such as Access To Healthcare Network that are supposed to be on the front lines of fighting to reduce the staggering and horrifying number of Veterans, seniors and disabled who daily succumb to suicide. Veterans succumb to suicide at twice the rate of non-Veterans. In Nevada, Veterans succumbing to suicide is a staggeringly 74% higher that that already horrific rate. Older adults make up 12% of the US population, but account for 18% of all suicide deaths. CDC also reports adults with disabilities were 3 1/2 times more likely to report suicidal ideation in the past month compared to persons without disabilities. My family and I have been using Access To Healthcare Network since 2014. We'd previously satisfactorily used several of their resources and services (5 stars). Then their CEO, who was also their founder, retired. There is a new CEO and since then for several months now we have not found Access To Healthcare Network to be satisfactory. It started with services we had been using for several years one by one were no longer available. And, no one at Access To Healthcare Network could be professional or compassionate enough to FIRST tell us that services we had been using for several years were no longer available. The services were just canceled with no notice to us. When we called to find out what happened to services we had previously been using for several years, we were treated dismissively and even strongly hinted that we are crazy when we pointed out their web site boasted differently. To make matters worse, it was all done by Access To Healthcare Network with a serving of attitude. Their transportation service then changed, with no prior warning, the previous three days a week we had going back to 2014, to two days a week. Then, their transportation service arrived to take me back home, but went the opposite direction from my home. I was the only one on the van. So I asked if they were taking me immediately home or had another rider they were picking up. The driver told me yes, there was another rider they were picking up before dropping off me. The van then arrives at a place and the driver informs me, "Here's your home." Which confused me on several levels as 1) the driver just told me they were picking up another rider before dropping off me, and 2) we were not at my home. I pointed both out to the driver who ignored me, was robustly unapologetic to me, did seem inexplicably angry with me, then did drive me straight home, dropped off me, all in very palpable cold silence. More services we had been using for several years became no longer available. Then, I called for transportation and left a message as that is all you can do. I never got a call back. So, we then went to their office to discuss all these major changes and lack of a return call. Wow. There we met a ghastly, mean-spirited employee named Mary Ella we finally determined as she failed to identify herself, and she was inexplicably openly horrible, rude and decidedly unhelpful, and openly suspicious of us as we tried to explain why we were there. She ended up frightening us as her behavior was so bizarre and physically aggressive. Then an employee named Kent, Leadership and Director of Program Eligibility, we finally determined as he also failed to identify himself, appeared and he got inexplicably and wildly inappropriate openly angry as we tried to explain why we were there and he then aggressively physically hustled us out the door and closed the door behind him leaving us outside. His distaste for us was so tangible that I was left choking. We were now very distressed. With the queasy sense of no surprise why Nevada Veterans, seniors and disabled succumb to suicide at a higher rate than the rest of the nation, we left. I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change, hence 2 reluctant stars only because of the previous 8 years of satisfactory service.

My partner took the picture to show me the dogs were concerned. In March 2024, I had a medical emergency . I was reluctant to call 911 because I didn't know what to do about care for my mom. But once I realized my partner could stay with her and I could go to hospital alone, it fell into place. The EMTs were great. And honestly, they always have been. I have dealt with REMSA on numerous occasions. Whether it was for my parents, my hospice/senior patients, or myself, the EMTs show compassion, knowledge, and patience. I have had ambulance and Careflight. My dad had to be transferred from Renown to Stanford, in 2020. He said it was a good flight.
