This will be a long review so TLDR: Danny and his staff are the best there is and their food is…read moreeven better! It's truly difficult to express how amazing Danny and his staff made our wedding event. As we were working to find a chef for our small wedding reception/garden party, Danny stuck out simply because we liked the pictures of his food, but after we met with him, we knew he was the perfect chef for us. He made us feel comfortable from the start (LGBTQIA+ friendly) and understood our tastes and interests from just a 30 minute intro call. We signed our contract with him several months out from the event, but he always kept in touch to make sure our heads were still in the same place in how we wanted to celebrate our wedding. Moving to the actual event, we hosted ~22 people for a cocktail style garden party. Danny came up with an amazing menu including: - Cheese plate (very high quality cheeses; these leftovers made for spectacular girl dinners) - The popcorn project (very cute apps with a special, Danny-made seasoning I can't stop thinking about) - Guacamole three ways (fabulous) - Black bean mango salsa (so refreshing for an outdoor party) - Pimento cheese dip (if you only have one stationary plate option, you should definitely get this) - Black bean hummus (added to our menu last minute and it did not disappoint) - Gazpacho shots (refreshing and elevated) - Shrimp lollipops (perfect way to start the event) - Scallop ceviche (my wife's favorite dish) - Brisket sliders (my favorite dish) - Mini cupcakes (soooooo cute and the perfect size to allow you to try all of the flavors) - Thin mint drunken milkshakes (a perfect way to cap off the night) For drinks, we had a few signature cocktails, lots of wine, and a few non-alcoholic drinks. Danny has a knack for coming up with differentiated cocktails that still bring together all of the flavors you know and love, just at an elevated level. I highly recommend the Santero (mojito adjacent) and my wife loved his bourbon cocktail. We had a few non-alcoholic drinkers and they loved the blood orange margarita. And beyond the food, Danny's staff was perfect. Jessalyn and Camilla were so warm and welcoming and we couldn't have asked for anyone better. The kitchen was a little tight to begin with, but they made more than do with the resources they had and left the kitchen in better condition than how it started. Danny and his sous chef, Cat, were busy and possibly overwhelmed, but didn't show it at all. The cadence the food was sent out was perfect and we loved that we got to chit chat with the whole staff in between courses. When we first met Danny, we told him that with all of the money in the world, we still would want to have a very small wedding reception with a private chef. Danny's personality, food, staff, etc. etc. made it better than we ever could have anticipated.

We recently got married at Eastern Market in Washington, DC. I wanted to keep with the farmers'…read moremarket feel and utilize the wonderful tastes, colors and textures of fall throughout. Working with Jennifer Tye and the team at dcTaste was seamless. JT read my mind - from the smallest of details to the menu to the ceremony and reception set up - she captured exactly what I wanted. She was much much more than just my caterer. She coordinated with other vendors, helped secure items that fit with our vintage, farm table feel, and pulled together a table setting that was spectacular. The dcTaste team turned the blank canvass of Eastern Market's North Hall into something that would blow the minds of Pinterest followers! Oh....and then there was the food...the fabulous food! More on that in a minute... We had shopped around for other caterers (all uninspiring) before finding dcTaste through a friend. I was so impressed with JT from the get-go - before we ever talked menu - her pricing was incredibly reasonable compared to other caterers in the area and her approach to helping us with event planning perfectly fit my Type A personality.Beyond her incredible talent as a chef, she was mindful of costs and helped advise me on what was worth the splurge and what was an unnecessary expense. JT and I met in person several times to talk through themes/layout/menus, etc. She was very prompt in responding to my many questions by phone and email as well. Every time we spoke, I felt like I was her number one priority and that she was truly invested in making my wedding as fabulous as possible. Through dcTaste, we also had a day-of coordinator who was fully briefed on the theme and vision for the day and worked to ensure I had nothing to worry about. Elizabeth was so thoughtful - she understood that the details matter. She went above and beyond surprising us with added décor that fit perfectly with our theme. She even turned the ladies bathroom at Eastern Market (used by the masses on an average weekend) into a spa quality ladies lounge! I got so many compliments from wedding guests about the ladies room!! The staff at our event were the friendliest and most responsive team I've ever encountered. They seemed happy to be part of our event and greeted our guests with such hospitality. At the end of the night, they took everything down, helped my family load things up and made sure everything was cleaned up as required. Working with dcTaste took the stress out of wedding planning - they ensured that our day was more perfect than I could have ever imagined. Back to the food - best fall menu ever! For cocktail hour, we had passed appetizers that included BBQ pulled pork in tiny mason jars with coleslaw and baked beans on top - so creative and delicious. We also passed mini grilled cheese sandwiches with a tomato soup shooter, bruschetta, and goat cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon. For dinner we started with butternut squash soup with a dab of pumpkin butter followed by 13-hour braised short ribs with mélange of fall vegetables and the best cauliflower puree one has ever eaten. For dessert we wanted a pie table - blueberry, sour cherry, pecan, apple and (our favorite) key lime. We also had red velvet wedding cake but the pies were the big hit! Remarks we heard from our wedding guests specific to the menu: "This meal is amazing; I would order it again if this was a restaurant." "Best food I've ever had at a wedding." "BBQ in a mason jar appetizer was so creative and sooo tasty." "Grilled cheese and tomato soup shooter - perfect for a fall night." "Short ribs were just like my mom's - so good." "The pies!! We should have started with the pies!!" "The key lime pie was so good I wanted to plant my face in it." For any event, with great confidence I strongly recommend Jennifer Tye and dcTaste. I can't wait to work with them again!

Before Andrew, we were wracked with anxiety. There was so much that we didn't know, and yet there was so much that had to be done. Immediately. And while we knew that we needed help, we did not know where to turn. So as one does, we picked up our phones and looked towards Google. Andrew Roby Events ("ARE") was at the top of the list for event planning services. After scrolling through ARE's website, reading articles about Andrew's background, watching his inspiring videos and - most importantly, looking at photographs of his work, I just knew that he wouldn't be available or would be out of our price range. After all, it was clear that he was a giant in the industry. There was just no way! But I crossed my fingers and sent an inquiry anyway. I was gobsmacked to receive a positive response and to hear of his willingness to schedule an exploratory Zoom call with us to discuss our needs and wants. Things changed after our first meeting with Andrew. My fiancé and I had been lost in a thicket, but Andrew took our hands and led us to our destination. Not only were we granted complete access to a wedding database (that helped us track deadlines, our budget, and guest list), but to Andrew himself. He coached us and helped us to formulate our vision for the wedding. We told him our dream, and he not only designed (YES: HE DOES THAT TOO!), orchestrated and executed every detail - he exceeded every element of our fantasy. I've included pictures that not only showcase the beauty that Andrew created, but that also show the love that he gave us through his work. Kevin and I will forever be grateful to Andrew. What he did for us, our family, and our friends can never be repaid. He is, by far, the best.
