I retained Midge in January of 2008 to help me file an amended return from two years previously. I paid her for the filing of my return in April of 2008, at which time she assured me everything was ready to go and I should not have any problems. However, she not manage to file the returns for a full year. I was very anxious about being charged interest and penalties, and contacted her repeatedly, pleading with her to get the returns I had already paid for filed. She had an endless line of excuses about vacations, corporate deadlines she was dealing with, et cetera. I did not have the financial resources to hire another accountant to do the work I had already paid Midge for, but realized later I should have found a way to pay a different accountant because I ended up paying a $1300 penalty as a direct result of Midge's negligence. She failed to file my returns on time as promised, or as a I paid for. She later refunded part of the fees I paid, but she never offered any kind of apology for her negligence. Do not entrust your taxes to this unethical, unprofessional firm.

Each year during tax time I go online to turbo tax or whatever it is called and run my W-2's, 1040's, 1099's etc through only to be disappointed by some number that is conjured by some proverbial magic wand. Naturally I never believe this number the godawful program comes up with. This is where Sechrest & Bloom come in--they work their butts off to make sure I'm getting the most bang for my buck. Sure it's a little more spendy than paying your computer to do the work, but the individualized service, friendly staff, and (of course) the pretty number on my refund check makes it an investment worth making. If you are looking for an accountant who does a top notch job, follows up with you, and remembers your name--this is the accounting firm for you.
