We spent a few mins trying to figure out where this place was. Had a cab / ride share drop us off at the addy, but it wasn't super obvi which door it was. I finally said I think it's the one which the kinda pharma logo on the door that says closed. Luckily I was right. We got in right away. It wasn't very busy that day. Like I said, we started by going to the wrong doorbells which were for the apratment. The actual speakeasy looks closed and out of business from the front. Eventually after a few other people showed up, someone came to the door and asked what we were doing there. They were in character the whole time. Once we delcared our purpose, they brought us back. When I asked if we could take an adjacent table with four normal chairs, we were told it was for six persons (because it also had two extra "seats" on the heating). Again, the bar was almost empty. I understand, as a bar owner, you don't want duos occupying tables for four or more, but this was ridiculous. There are plenty of more friendly bars around this one where waiters don't give you an attitude or tell you off. Best to avoid.

I was initialy turned off because…read moreit's listed as a smoking bar and I thought I was going to be surrounded by old German dudes blowing cancer in my face... it was the only thing open near my hotel and so I reluctantly went to check it out... Boy was I WRONG!! The place has state of the art ceiling ventilation and I never noticed that people around me were smoking. But here's is the ONLY thing you need to know about posh bar... The bartender Micheal (German: "MEE-SCHY-ELLE") is actually the owner! But he's super humble about it and won't admit it unless you pry it out of him. He spent years in Miami learning his craft and has pioneered a "Cheers (TV show)" style approach to experience management. This is rare in Berlin. His masterpiece bar is THE BEST time you can have in Berlin without even knowing it! Why? Every customer is treated as if they are an old time friend COMING HOME after a long time away. This means that Michael (or the other bar tender Martin) might tease you, or even insult you, or seemingly act indifferent.... What they're actually doing is giving you a special opportunity to throw it back to them -- to tell your personal story, be honest and comfortable, and feel like you're at home with your childhood best friends. Do this!! Tell Michael your story. Open up. You'll get access to special off the menu drinks. You'll get special stories about crazy patrons. You'll get a place where you and your friends are treated like you've been regulars since you were teenagers. Make sure to ask Michael and Martin about crazy shit they've seen in Berlin!
