I'm sad to say that I no longer trust this group with my child's care after discovering the abundance of unnecessary vaccines that were given which were not required in order to attend California public schools. Instead of vaccinating my child with vaccines that were mandated by the California public school system first, the physicians decided to prioritize other vaccines that were not mandated. Unfortunately, now I'm going to have to rush getting my child vaccinated with the required vaccines because the office does not know California Public school policies. Despite me verifying verbally at every visit that this was required for school, I was still misled. Moving forward I will not trust any office to tell me which vaccines are required for California public schools, I will research this myself. Tough lesson that I had to learn. In addition, all of our appointments with Dr. Reda felt very rushed. Any questions that I tried to ask he answered with one word versus having a more thorough explanation for a first time mom. I should have switched earlier, but stuck with him because no one else seemed to have a problem. Once I started asking around, I discovered that all of my friends that had referred me to the practice had left for the very same reasons. Wish this was something that I would've talked about sooner. I'm writing this in hopes that the office improves their vaccination schedules and communication. It would've helped to have a plan out the gates for my child's vaccination schedule versus a fly by the seat of your pants and see what happens. In other words, a "don't ask questions" approach. After a very brief appointment -- approximately five minutes -- during which Compound W was applied to treat a wart, our insurance was billed and paid the adjusted charges. We were then charged additional out-of-pocket fees on top of that. At the office's direction, we contacted their billing department to dispute the remaining balance due to the minimal nature of the treatment provided. Unfortunately, the charges were not adjusted. We understand healthcare has costs, and we respect medical professionals' time and expertise. However, we believe billing should be reasonable and proportionate to the services rendered. Because of this experience, we've decided to seek care elsewhere. We're sharing this so other families can be informed and ask detailed questions about treatment and billing upfront.

But now, to be able to continue to receive the same service I have been getting and expecting for my family, I have to pay an administrative fee of $150-$250 a year (depending on the number of kids that you have). See the attached photo straight from their check-in portal. Otherwise they will charge you for every non-medical service that isn't covered by insurance - such as a call from your doctor about lab results, a vaccination record for your child or a medication refill over the phone. I am shocked and utterly horrified. It's bad enough that our insurance companies rip us off left and right with high premiums, deductibles, and copays, but now my provider is charging administrative fees!?!?? Their excuse - the insurance companies don't compensate us enough so we need the patients to cough it up. Food, housing, clothing, medicine costs have all increased and people are barely making ends meet these days. Incomes have not increased, but the cost of living has. And now, my pediatricians office wants to make more money by charging for simple things that should be included in the overall care my child receives. Sure, I can opt-out...but then what are you going to charge me for? What non-medical charges will I now expect to see on my bill? I called for a refill...how much do you charge for that? I asked for a note for my child's school....how much do you charge for that? These are not things that should ever be something a parent worries about. We have enough worries about our children and putting food on the table. Now I have to have anxiety about more mystery charges appearing on a bill? There was no prior warning about this...no emails that went out to parents and patients, no update on the website...this appeared as I was trying to do a check for my child for their appointment. There is minimal transparency about what you are charging for these non-medical services. I want no part of being at a place that does something like this. I will need to find a new office now...this is so unethical. How many more patients do you think you will lose because of this? I have never been at an office that has ever done this. What are you going to start charging for next??? How sad...customer care and service is now a money making business at Mia Bella Pediatrics.

Unfortunately I will never be going back here. They fumbled my daughter's care BIG TIME. This needs…read moreto be known, so the medical staff here can learn, as well as the parents who put their faith in urgent care places like these; to seriously caution where they go for certain medical issues. My 6yr old girl fell at school and hurt her left arm doing cart wheels. We took her here immediately. They took X rays. Then the PA Denea Heintz came to talk to us. She said that her injury broke her humerus bone. The exact report was written as "supracondylar fracture of the distal humerus." PA proceeded to tell us, they don't cast at this location but they usually don't do casts for this injury anyway. All you need is a sling and to keep it elevated as much as possible for 4 weeks. But no surgery to worry about, no alignment issues. She got us in a sling and then said to call the pediatric ortho to schedule a basic follow up. And we left. Well: for one, even if the above info was correct. How the heck is a 6yr old supposed to keep their arm steady in a sling without even a splint? We started to realize that very quick. We called the ortho when we got home. They scheduled us for 7 days later. The following morning. On the advice of Cali-Kids we had her in the sling and sent her to school. Mom had that intuition that something was NOT RIGHT. You could see it in the poor little girl. Her motion, her pain, the swelling she wouldn't move her arm at all. Called the orthopedic again after drop off at school. They said to bring her in 10:45, they had an opening. (Thank God: for Moms intuition and that place having the cancellation). Picked her up from school. Went to see the ortho (which was the office referred by Cali Kids). Dr. Took a while to come in but he came in and said: "I'm sorry it took a while I was on the phone with CHOC @ Orange because I need to have your daughter admitted to the ER for Emergency Surgery and I had to call the on call surgeon and have them review the X-rays and they agreed it was an emergency." He then said unfortunately it was multiple fractures/breaks as well as miss alignment beyond the threshold and he couldn't just cast it, it requires surgical fix. At this point we were blown away. BLOWN AWAY. Told him what was explained to us by Cali-Kids and he couldn't even believe we were referred to him and not an EMERGENCY room. He couldn't believe all they did was put it in a sling. I've never in my life seen a Dr. throw his chair backwards and put his hands on his head and say: WHAT! WHHHHAAAT ???!!! We then got her up to CHOC in Orange and she was admitted to the hospital and had surgery. Parents out there: Take serious caution as to where you go for certain medical problems. Unfortunately it's hard to believe there can be a huge inconsistency with care between urgent care facilities and specialists etc. If there is ever something you think could be serious: DO NOT take the word of an urgent care facility. Just bypass it and go right to the ER. As a parent you don't know. Unless you're a medical professional yourself. But for those of us that are not. If you go to an urgent care. You expect they are pointing you in the best direction. Had we listened in this case and waited 7 days, the surgeon told us it would have been even worse and ultimately our kid would have suffered even more than she needed to. To the staff at Cali-Kids: I'm well aware it's not a perfect world and urgent cares can make mistakes and are not specialists. But please take this as a learning opportunity. If there was a fault by an incompetent staff member. Take action to get them to learn their mistake. And if there is something a staff member is unsure about, or borderline, recommend to the parent that it would be best for them to get an immediate second opinion at an ER. Don't just confidently tell parents they have no surgery to worry about. When that was 100% medically inaccurate to say, based on the X-Rays they took.

I have also noticed that many appointments seem to be handled by nurses rather than physicians. While I appreciate the nurses and their hard work, there have been times when the care and guidance provided did not feel as thorough as expected. Even when a child appears to have a simple cold or virus, I believe every concern should be approached with caution, attentiveness, and respect. Having lived in several states and worked professionally as an operations consultant, I have experienced many healthcare systems. I genuinely believe there are opportunities to improve scheduling access, patient communication, and the overall service experience for families. My intention is not to criticize, but to provide constructive feedback in the hope that it helps create a better experience for your staff, parents, and most importantly, the children who are your patients. We've taken our 2 young daughters to the Irvine location since birth and since our doctor left…read morethere and we moved to south OC, we thought it made perfect sense to switch to this location. We brought our 3rd daughter here for her 3-day check-up and it was an absolute disaster. Due to the last minute appt, we were only able to see a nurse practitioner. They started by weighing our newborn and telling us she had lost 14% of her weight. They instructed us to start feeding her every hour during the day and every 2 hours all night long. The weight loss didn't make sense since she was latching since we were in the hospital and eating constantly and very well. We asked if it would make sense to weigh her again. The nurse insisted their scale couldn't be wrong and tried to talk us out of it. We pushed and insisted and they finally agreed. Turns out the first weight was completely wrong and her weight was within healthy limits. As a 3rd time mom, I'm glad I trusted my gut, but if this was for my first baby, I would've trusted them and gone home force feeding my completely healthy baby every hour. Our baby also left the hospital 2 days before with a normal jaundice level of 3. The nurse did a visual inspection of her at this appointment and said if she had to estimate, it looked like it was around 15 (greater than 10 is bad). If the blood tests confirmed that, our baby would have to be hospitalized. Again, very concerning information! Because of this, they pricked her foot to get a blood sample. However, the nurse did not get enough blood the first time and they came back and pricked her other foot! My poor baby. The entire process took more than 1.5 hours. They called later with the results and jaundice levels were completely normal! Why would you report all the concerning information to a parent that all turned out to be inaccurate? We asked to speak to the manager and they said they'd look into it and get back to us. Never heard back. My husband wrote a review and someone from customer service said they'd look into it as well. Never heard back. We have found a new pediatrician for all of our daughters and won't be returning here ever.

Our experience changed dramatically over time. As the years went on, it became increasingly difficult to get timely appointments, increasingly difficult to reach anyone by phone, and the patient portal became a recurring source of frustration whenever we needed to access it. Because appointments were so limited, we were often directed to whichever Coastal Kids office happened to have an opening rather than the location we normally used. We were also advised on multiple occasions to seek care at urgent care because no pediatric appointments were available, even for issues we believed should have been managed by our pediatrician. That was disappointing and ultimately defeated much of the purpose of having an established pediatric practice. Another recurring frustration was the number of administrative fees. While no single fee was particularly large, they accumulated over the years and left us feeling nickel-and-dimed. We ultimately decided to transfer our children's care elsewhere. During that process, our new pediatrician attempted to retrieve our children's immunization records through the California Immunization Registry but was unable to because the records had not been entered. We then had to request the records directly from Coastal Kids and were charged $20 per child to have them sent to our new provider. We stayed with this practice for years because we genuinely hoped things would improve, but they never did. Our experience steadily declined, and moving to a different pediatric practice has been a significant improvement. This review reflects only our personal experience as longtime patients.

She is intelligent: SO she asked me if I like to tell her. I responded that I did not want to say the reason in front of my beloved son. She then offered to speak to her out side of the patient room. Yep, she got my message and returned to my teenager son to reassure him he's all taken care of and is free to go only allow her to simply listens to his heart and lungs to confirm he is healthy and gave me what I requested. Our appoinment went smoothly and afterwards I revealed to my son for the reason of visit with Dr.Kellum. He agreed he's fine with it, too. So everything is great so far regarding my son's health. It IS being taken care of! Thanks Newport Children ! Our nurse assistant who took measured weight, temperature and blood pressure was also a pleasant person: He is gentle spirited. Sai, he said his name is. When he pressed me for the reason for my visit, I also did not give him answer. But he also did not insist, simply stated that he will have to read up in the texted answer I provided in the office iPad in the front desk.
