My family has had the most incredible experiences with OCEAN PEDIATRICS. Our forever doctor is Dr. Steven Abelowitz, and we love him. My daughter is always excited to see doctor Steve, for both well visits and sick visits. She says, "doctor steve will make everything better. I want to go see doctor Steve, and only doctor Steve." He is patient, kind, thorough, communicative and very knowledgeable. We feel so confident in his care and are so grateful for how he has gone above and beyond for our family. He has been there for my daughter since birth, and has helped us navigate through major health issues. You never know how great your doctor is until you have an emergency, and we feel blessed to have had our daughter, Allison, under the care of Dr Abelowitz during those difficult times. He has always made sure my child has received the best care, also referring us to excellent specialists when necessary. He has followed up with the referrals and made sure that everyone treating my kid is on the same page. I cannot recommend this office enough. I know my daughter has always received the best care with doctor Abelowitz. In addition to everything stated above, The practice is very organized and I have been very impressed with the ability to make same day appointments and are generally able to see our favourite doctor, Dr. Steven Abelowitz. The hedge fund currently running coastal kids (Steve's old practice), are putting profits over patients. They forced him out for putting PATIENTS FIRST. This hedge fund in particular seems to NOT care about your child at all, and only focus on the big P: PROFITS. This is why non-professionals (like the entity running coastal kids) should *never* be allowed to partner with professionals. It compromises professional integrity and puts profits over people. Attorneys and doctors are prohibited from partnering with non-attorneys and non-doctors for exactly this reason. Maybe some hedge funds have gotten around it by having doctors as partners. New legislation needs to be passed, prohibiting any organization with a single non-professional partner from this kind of activity. I have been WAITING for Steve to open up a new practice, and am so happy OCEAN PEDIATRICS is OPEN & accepting new patients. What a shame. My whole family( cousins included) have been patients of dr a below it's for 25 some odd years. Back when it was one office in Newport Beach. The corporate greed and lack of care has officially taken hold here. Multiple offices, revolving doors with staff and doctors, obviously unhappy staff that can care less about their jobs or their patients. I should have known better then to continue as a patient. I am the patient that just left the credit card on file, with insurance or not, I trusted. BETRaYED. They are not in the business of healing, they are in the business of steeling. Keep your receipts, record your phone calls, document your visits. They say the bill insurance and they don't. Every time I go I get a bill above and beyond what I am supposed to pay( office visit 1761 dollars), ya right!!! Then try to get a hold of someone's and when you do you at spoken down to. Then the mistake is found, no apology, just "we will call you back, then the bill magically turns to zero Ya. You can keep your slimy greedy business model for yourself. No longer patient centered. Again. What a shame. Dr abelowitz, though your probably too busy to notice, or read this message, I know medicine has changed, I know I can't expect more then 5-10 minutes after waiting for an hour for a appointment that was made weeks in advance. Why do you continue to grow your business if you are not really trying to be a health care provider anymore. The lines have been blurred for sure. For the prospective patients, do your research, try to see the same Doctor twice, you can't. You will Likely see a PA because that's all they will give you, because they care so much about your kids Try to get strait forward billing, you can't , because they don't know what they are doing either. We have been with Dr. Abelowitz for 6 years. Besides being a great Doctor, he has the right balance between looking at every possibility for different issues and at the same time not to alarm us. He is always there for us, very easy to schedule appointments, even the same day. Always return back calls quickly and sometimes even recommend what to do by phone. The other Doctors in the clinic are also great. All have deep knowledge and devotion. read more

Terrible Office Billing Policy! We have been with Coastal Kids for over 7 years now. Our personal Dr has been exceptionally wonderful! But beware of unsavory billing practices. We recently took my children in for their well checks. As a routine, the Dr. asked if there were any concerns we had. We mentioned that our 7 year old daughter seems to have eczema on her arms. Consequently, Dr. prescribed her a Rx for her eczema, during the well check. Surprisingly though, I was being billed for both a well check visit and a sick visit due to the fact that, when asked by the Dr, we spoke about our concern and/or Rx was prescribed. The practice owner and I both live in Newport Coast, so it was understood that paying for a sick visit is not a big deal monetarily, but I do feel rather irritated based on the principle of how their policy "nickle and dimes" by trying to get double charges for the same visit! I spoke to Luz in the billing department to have this re-assessed. She later notified me that the billing committee decided not to wave the sick visit co-pay ($40) and ruled to make me responsible for both a sick visit and well check. After I explained to her how wrong it was to double-dip on a single office visit, she blamed the incident on their third-party billing company, even though she acknowledged that the billing company is just executing what Coastal Kids has requested! This type of double-talk on double-dipping policies further frustrates the situation. In summary, good Drs with bad policies. read more

Best pediatrician ever!! We started out with a different doctor at another practice (and it was the worst experience I've ever had with my daughter), but I'm so glad that we found Dr. Abelowitz after!! He was kind and caring, obviously loves kids, and put my daughter at ease instantly. He seems very knowledgeable and helps calm your nerves (or at least he did for me because I'm a first-time parent) And he has national awards and all that, too. I wish the solid foods feeding instructions he gives out would have been better (more instructive and liik nicer) but that's really the only complaint I could think of haha. I first met Dr. Abelowitz at Hoag Hospital when he was the first pediatrician to examine my daughter after she was born. I recognized him immediately from the research I had done while looking for a pediatrician, he had an impressive resume. During our initial visit, his sincerity and thoroughness put me at ease, but we had lived too far from Newport Beach to choose him as our permanent pediatrician. A year later, I was glad to see him again when Coastal Kids partnered with our pediatrician in Laguna Hills. I have taken my daughter to Dr Abelowitz twice for her wellness visits and I am grateful for the way he listens and responds, without making me feel like I am fretful (I am). He is also very patient and kind to my daughter. The operational improvements in the office have made my experience "5-Star" and I would recommend Dr Abelowitz to anyone who asks. read more

Dr. Abelowitz was thorough, kind and on time! He was recommended to me by another doctor. I am so pleased with him and his entire office. From scheduling the appointment, to getting in, the initial meeting with the doctor, and gettin out in a timely manner, then entire process was great. My daughter started a new medication for ADD and was having some side effects. I called the nurse line and explained the symptoms. I expected to hear back from a nurse but within the hour Dr. Abelowitz called himself. He listened to symptoms and gave great advice and asked to be kept abreast of my daughters progress. I really appreciate the extra time and care he took with me. I am grateful to have my daughter in his care and look forward to working with him and his office in managing my daughter's health. We have been going to Coastal Kids and Dr. Abelowitz since we had our son in 2009. Dr. Abelowitz has always been very thorough, attentive and engaging and he makes both us and son feel comfortable and addresses any concerns we have. We have also had great experiences with the other exceptional doctors in this practice. My husband and I did countless research on vacciniations and the various schedules available. We were not comfortable doing the standard vaccination schedule and requested a modified schedule. Dr. Abelowitz patiently listened to our concerns and opinions, discussed the pros and cons of the modified schedule and partnered up with us to ensure that we created a schedule that we felt comfortable with. He was never once pushy or demanding and we were/are incredibly pleased with this partnership. We recently had our second child and have already discussed with Dr. Abelowitz our desire to apply this same modified schedule with our younger son. Overall, as a parent you want to do what is best for your child and you will be your child's biggest advocate. I understand the need to be cautious in vaccinations and Dr. Abelowitz has been very accomodating with this request. Their practice does encourage vaccinations not only for the well being of your own child, but also the many young newborns in their office, who are not yet protected through vaccinations. My 15 year old son has been a patient of Dr Abelowitz since birth. At 16 months, I was concerned of my son's lack of interest in walking. After a thorough appointment and interview, Dr.Abelowitz felt that he had traces of autism and guided me through the process of what I needed to do. I had no clue that this was autism, but it all made sense. To this day, I remember him telling me, "if you get your son into early intervention and therapies immediately, he could be in a typical kindergarten class." Please keep in mind that 15 years ago, most doctors were saying, "give it time"..."boys are slower than girls", etc and waited until about age 5 to address concerns. We followed his expert guidance and my son learned to point, speak, engage and was in a typical kindergarten class. Through the years, Dr. Abelowitz has always been the coach for his care. He is very thorough, but without alarming a parent. He has been amazing with my 11 year old daughter as well. When my daughter was injured during soccer, she was immediately seen by Dr. Abelowitz. We have had challenges with office communication over the years but his manager, Angela, is amazing and fixes everything!! We feel confident in his opinions and suggestions for other specialists over the years. Our family is fortunate to be in his care. read more

Dr. Abelowitz is truly the best pedatrician one could hope for! He is thoughtful and thorough. I couldn't believe one visit in which he remembered every detail of my kid's medical history and my delivery that I had shared with him years prior. I believe that his attention to detail is one of his greatest strengths, and this has been a theme over the years with every visit I have made. Dr. Abelowitz is always very charming and patient, but most importantly his professionalism and years of experience always come through and leave me feeling like everything has been considered and my childeren are getting the absolute best care and diagnosis. Dr. Abelowitz is hands down one of the most caring and thorough Pediatricians I know. He takes his time with every patient on every visit. His ability to look at all possibilities when diagnosing is so calming. He never allows you to leave without addressing your questions or concerns. Most importantly, his staff is amazing! The support and desire to make certain you get in either right away if needed or at a convenient time is quite impressive. Truly it feels like a family office that really wants to know you. My four children have been under the care of Dr. Steven Abelowitz for the past 15 years since his practice began. What we loved about him at the beginning we still love: careful personal attention for our children, and a great doctor available when health concerns, which unfortunately with kids they do all the time! HIs practice has grown through the years, but most of the original faces are still there, and every time we need to get in or be seen, we are! Dr. Abelowitz hires good people to surround him who are loyal and caring. From the front office staff to the big medical decisions that need to be made on behalf of our children, we are grateful that Dr. Abelowitz and his group have integrity and my kid's health always in the forefront. Yes, you may have to wait in the waiting room a bit from time to time - that's the nature of any medical business - but know that once you are in your medical exam room, the doctor there will give you and your child ALL of the time and attention that you deserve. read more
