They carry out the mission of the National Weather Service to provide weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy. Part of that is the annual training they provide to storm spotters who volunteer their eyes, ears and time to the NWS and communities. For many years, this training has been in conference rooms, convention centers and theaters of North Texas communities. Due to COVID-19, SKYWARN 2021 Training was conducted over GoToWebinar this year and they did an outstanding job with the first session I attended! Don't forget to thank them for their service to you! Looking to find court documents, Dawes records, NASA records or discover your family records…read morethrough genealogy? The National Archives and Records Administration located in Fort Worth, Texas is your answer. They have a huge inventory of Federal Recods for the state of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Patrons can use the genealogy lab for free computer access to Ancestry.com via NARA computers. Customer service is very good and the staffing is efficient I providing your reference request. Please be advised that if you are searching for something, it is best to contact them by phone (817-551-2000) or email them at ftworth.archives@nara.gov. Due to staffing, they really don't have the ability to provide assistance in person. The staff normally takes 3-4 days at most to finish your reference request.. They have a reference room you can use to view documents requested. You must make an appointment in advance to schedule time in there. Currently due to Covid, they are not accepting anyone for the genealogy lab, but are accepting only three individuals for reference research on Tuesdays and Thursdays only during Covid. This may change in the future. They do charge $20 dollars minimum for up to 25 pages and then 80 cents per page thereafter.. They have free parking and I advise that you use GPS to locate them as they are not easy to spot from the highway. I suggest visiting for the genealogy computer lab with free access to ancestry.com. You can pay your water bill and such here as well as traffic tickets. Seems like I have been here to pay tickets more then often over the years. Workers that I have encountered have always been friendly enough. I am more a fan of everything being located in one building just in case you have multiple city things you need to take care of.

This "city" (and I use this word loosely because Duncanhole is the armpit of south Dallas county)…read morehas cameras that claim you ran a red light and that generates a ticket that you can't defend because they have a photo. This is in direct violation of the 6th Amendment of US Constitution that says I have the right to be confronted by witnesses against me and a camera is not a witness. The Sate of Texas has ruled that these "citations" cannot be used to issue a warrant and will not affect you in a traffic stop but they are used by the issuing municipality to extort money from you when you try to register your vehicle again. The city of Duncanhole has contracted with a private company to facilitate this scam. Hey... city of Duncanhole council and mayor... you know what you are? Yeah, you know... don't you...

FYI, it's pretty cool. You schedule some hazardous waste bags to be delivered to your home, and Keller picks them up a week later. No more driving. I like it. Bottom line: Keller for the win!

All you do is drive inside the building, stay in your car and show them your ID, then they take all your chemicals from your trunk and you're on the way home. They take household chemicals and cooking oil. So please bring your motor oil to dispose of properly here. Leftover paint, aerosol products, pool chemicals and many more. My favorite part of this place is that they have a section of the building where you can get free paint and other chemicals products. These are products that people have dropped off to be dispose of but the employees there noticed that some of the products dropped off have never been used, opened or slightly used. Like one time i got a 10 gallon bucket of paint, brand new because i guess the people didnt like the color?! but hey their loss my gain :D Also I gotten many spray of different colors to finish projects i work on.

PEP is a program for inmates . It is a good program , that's it . It is not great , it will not…read moretransform your life , help you start a business or be successful. The leaders have their favorites. Those favored will be highly successful by being given a job upon release . They have to do nothing but get out , be given housing , a job , get paid with absolutely no effort whatsoever . With that you can go to school full time get a bachelor's or master's degree all while being supported by program funds , guaranteed success ! All you have to do is fake it until you make it !

I became involved with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program after reading a b-school friends blog…read moreentry of his experience with the program working as an Executive Mentor. I was moved by the concept of providing inmates the means to view their release from prison as a true second chance and a way to positively re-enter society. As the program explains, two-thirds of released inmates will return to prison within three years. However, those inmates that graduate from this program have a recidivism rate below three percent. From those numbers it is clear that PEP changes people's lives for the better. These statistics are more easily understood when one attempts to take a look at the world from an inmates' point of view. Most everyone in the outside world understands that these men committed terrible crimes and deserved to be punished. Yet much fewer probably realize how very scary it is for the inmates to leave prison and re-enter society. Inmates are released with the clothes on their backs, up to $100, a bus ticket and a criminal record. In reality, these men will be repeatedly rejected from their families, potential employers, public housing facilities and even churches. They face a difficult road. PEP provides these men a real opportunity to reintegrate them back into society and to never return to prison. For many of these men, graduating from this program is the greatest accomplishment of their lives. I have worked with PEP as an Executive Mentor over the last two programs. My duties in this role aren't many, mainly they are to revise an inmates' business plan, resume and personal statement as well as perform some online research for his business idea. All told I have done less than 15 hours of work each time, so it is not a huge time commitment. There are many optional events one can participate in also but usually they require you to be in the Dallas- Fort Worth area and I have been unable able to participate so far. I believe this is a worthwhile program which I plan to continue to work with and I would recommend to anyone to join in. Yet it was something about the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce that makes me feel so welcome that I keep returning back to it more often than the others. Located on the 9th floor of The Fort Worth Club building on Taylor St and in front of the Morningstar Oil & Gas building, the FWCC has a historic undergirding within the DFW area as well as being a highly relevant entity within Fort Worth. Every time I come in here to purchase business reference materials, I am treated as if I'm family from the staff of Betty Harvey, Christina G., and several others. Further, it seems as if the FWCC is always either hosting or sponsoring a local event. This chamber certainly stays busy! Individual yearly business memberships are comparable to that of other chambers in major cities: usually around $400-500. As for parking here, there is a heavy valet service presence in the front of The Fort Worth Club building, yet I think that there is self-parking on the other side. If not, you can always park on the road either within a paid parking lot or metered parking, which is somewhat reasonable (12 minutes for every $0.25).

The Marvin College historical marker stands in front of what used to be the college but is now…read moreMarvin Elementary School. I was not able to get a decent angle to see the astronomical observatory because of traffic lights and trees. I'm sure the interior is pretty cool but it was closed on this late afternoon. The marker is at the intersection of College Street and Marvin Avenue. There is no nearby legal parking. The marker reads, "The Northwest Texas Conference, Methodist Episcopal Church South, built a college named for Bishop E.M. Marvin at the site in 1870-71. Waxahachie Methodists and others gave land, services, and money to develop the college. Distinctions were attained in music and chemistry teaching. The astronomical observatory was an outstanding feature. The enrollment reached about 250. Financially troubled, the college stressed practical studies in the 1880s, but closed in 1884.
