I debated on whether or not to write this review. With there being no reviews at all, I was a little worried that it may start a chain reaction of reviews complaining about our local police and courts where people try to put off their own responsibility and culpability in whatever their issues are.
This review is SPECIFICALLY for the Municipal Courts which is through the doors on the left when you enter the Police Department, however, at this point in the review I will take a moment to talk about the Police Department.
In the roughly 13 years I have lived in Denton, I have had limited interaction with anyone from the Police Department. There may be times when reporting a theft or other crime that you are disappointed with the results or what seems to be a lack of willingness to further investigate. I can think of two instances myself, but in the end, I cannot fully blame the police department (who enforces laws) because what I am really disappointed in is the laws themselves or caveats within them or that because criminals have rights too, citizens sometimes don't see justice fully served. I would say in those instances to take your frustration to your government officials, and not blame the Police Department. I have never met a local officer out in public who was anything but professional, and often helpful. Even in the two instances where I have received a ticket, I have only dealt with professional and polite officers. I also have a deep appreciation for the nature of their job.
Okay, that's all I'm going to say about that because this review is on the Municipal Court, which is located within the Police Department.
I have been to this location for several different tickets over the years. About 8 years ago, I realized that when you have the flu, you don't always have the best indication of speed- hey, we all make mistakes sometimes, if anything I was embarrassed at my mistake. Most recently, a couple of months ago, despite thinking I knew all the school zones in town, I discovered a new one by accident. In both cases, though not intentionally breaking the law, I was in the wrong and not arguing that case.
For this most recent situation, I ended up going in on three occasions. The day of I immediately stopped in, anxious to resolve the issue, just to find out that the citation wouldn't show in their system immediately. Then I came back the next week to discuss the options, once it was showing. Then I stopped by last week to confirm they had everything needed to resolve the issue.
In all 3 cases, I saw 2 to 3 women working the windows. Every single visit was startlingly consistent! These women are extremely professional and unfailingly polite! They not only give you all the information you need, but are extremely patient with answering questions. I, for one, and anyone who has ever met me, can attest to asking a lot of questions! Everyone there treated me very kindly.
What I really want to point out is, that even under pressure and when someone is having a complete and utter meltdown, they really do maintain their professionalism and are quite understanding. On each of my visits 1-2 other parties was there and I saw varying degrees of people freaking out to physically walking around, waving their arms and making crazy claims about what the laws are or should be. So let's say that I saw them deal with reasonable, unreasonable and completely crazy people and everyone got treated the same. For that reason, I want to say bravo!
I have also seen other staff coming and going in front of the windows and they were also friendly, but these ladies deserve a medal for what they put up with every day, and they do a wonderful job of it too! read more
