The views were fantastic and our room was comfortable but certainly not a lodge experience as advertised. Our dinner in the restaurant was a disaster from the beginning. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation so expected a slight delay in service. That delay eventually became on hour before the last person in our party was served a drink. The only wines available from the wine list were much more expensive than those unavailable. The vast majority of the beer selection was also unavailable. This was communicated to us after a thirty minute wait after ordering. The wait for food after ordering was two hours or more. When it did arrive it was cold and obviously had been sitting for quite some time. The staff don't appear to work together, while waiting for our meals, some servers were setting their tables for breakfast. We were told there was no manager available to speak to us but eventually someone came and comped some of the items. Breakfast was great the next morning with lots of options. Bottom line is don't expect a lodge and eat dinner somewhere else

My only regret was the quality of the bedroom at the lodge itself. Before making your reservation make sure that you have a room with a view. This is one of the worst hotels we have stayed for our Maritime tour. If I could give 0 stars for…read morethis place, I would have. We were welcome by Donna (staff) and there's nothing welcoming about it. She hurriedly talks about the hotel info but it's more of a mundane task for her instead of being an enjoyable part of her job. Downsides: Accommodation -We were placed in a room that is dated, dingy and smells moldy/musty. -Floors have several stains in them (see pic) and the carpeted floors were uneven and makes squeaking/creaking noises when you walk on it. -We were informed that we have a waterfront view which is partly true. When you're in the lower level rooms, your view will be obstructed by trees /shrubs so it is very unlikely you will see a full view of the Bras d'Or Lake. -Outlet plugs were limited and situated in very hard to reach places. If you didn't bring a power bank, your electronic devices will be nowhere close to you. -Washroom is very small and taking a shower is very unpleasant since it's slower to drain and basically you're standing in water. Dining -Place is very remote, not a lot of places to dine and no shops close by. It will take you more than 20 mins to walk to the nearest restaurant and 5 to 10 mins by car. -That left you with no choice but to dine in their restaurant called McCurdy Dining Room that has limited choice of menus. Food is mediocre and very expensive for a rural place. Seafood chowder is watered down, not a lot of seafood in it and a little bit spicy. Their Seafood Pasta is bland and has more noodles than sauce/seafood. Same goes with their Chicken Parmesan Pasta. You also have to wait for a long time for your food as they're understaff and trying to accommodate more customers that they can handle. -Breakfast was included when we booked our room. It's a buffet style and you get the basic breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast, etc. Upside: Nothing good about this hotel and wouldn't even recommend this to my worst enemy!

We were lucky enough to stay at the Silver Dart Lodge in Cape Breton. What a wonderful location. Overlooking the the lake, and each room has a small patio and chairs to sit and enjoy the views. The folks at this lodge were so friendly and helpful as well. East coast friendliness is definitely evident here! :) Beds were comfy and rooms were well appointed. Separate sink area from the shower/toilet room. Ample closet space. 2 comfy chairs to watch a flat panel tv and free wifi. This hotel also has a great dining room and is not far from downtown Baddeck and other attractions like the Alexander Graham Bell museum.

Plenty of space and a great view of the landscape. Upon arrival, we asked the front desk staff a number of questions about the area, and were expertly directed to the places and activities we were interested in. We made a reservation for dinner and were seated by the window with a view of the ocean. The waitstaff was very pleasant, and the food was divine! We had the spring salad, which had a medley of local greens (even some mint!) along with rhubarb, baby turnips, and a delicious dressing. My husband's steak was cooked perfectly rare--just how he likes it--and the accompaniments were steamed fresh asparagus and amazing mashed potatoes. I had the fresh halibut, reportedly right from the waters visible from our window--and definitely tasting as so--served with fresh asparagus, and roasted red potatoes and turnips. Dessert was lemon cheesecake with blueberry sauce drizzled over, and warm apple spice cake with homemade maple ice cream (to die for!). After dinner, we enjoyed a walk on the property's beach to watch the sunset, sitting in Adirondack style chairs. There was a spot for a fire, but we didn't have matches to light it with. Our room was one of the log rooms, which are 3 to a building--all facing the ocean, with large sliding glass doors and a small front porch. We were in the middle room, so the porch was private with walls on each side. The beds were incredibly comfortable, with fluffy pillows and crisp, fresh linens. The bathroom was spotless, with extra towels and toiletries. The one downfall to this room was the level of noise present from the other two rooms; we could hear the conversations from both sides. However, the view made up for the noise! A continental breakfast was included, and had a variety of homemade muffins, incredible bacon cheddar scones, and oat biscuits (my new favorite treat to go with my coffee!). There were also a few different cereals, as well as hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit. I took a to-go coffee and sat on the bluff enjoying the morning sun. We only stayed one night, but should've stayed our whole vacation! We will definitely be back--we loved it!

There was a ton of us piling into this resort for the weekend of the 30th-1st and although there was slight disorganization in terms of attempting to book, we were in the end more than accommodated. The assistant manager running this resort does not seem to sleep; she fills all roles, at all times of day and night. Gorgeous cottages facing Margaree harbour as well with adirondack chairs facing the ocean. Absolutely picturesque. My absolute favorite part about this resort (and the thing that will get me back) was that we were not nickle and dimed. 11 of us easily fit into 2 cottages and there was never a mention of the typical: Extra $30/person/night etc etc. Ie- two nights in these cottages worked out to $70/person! A great place to head for a couples weekend what with the close proximity to beach, golf and spa. Love this place! By the way, note the lobster pound. Lobster was so fresh that the fisherman were coming in to refill the tank almost as fast as we were ordering!

There was no decaf coffee in the lobby, as well as no tea. I was invited to purchase decaf the restaurant by two staff people that had a thin smile on their faces. The regular coffee kept running out at the free coffee station. I know petty but passing through for one night it can make a difference. Parking was $15, that's on me for not reading the fine print, but I booked this room thinking I was paying for upgraded services. It was the highest rated hotel at the time. Speaking of upgrades, if the front desk is upgrading a guest maybe not announce it loudly, such as the Skyline room with free room service. Observing this guest and feeling stung by extra money out of pocket for the parking fee and the lack of decaf based on a medical issue felt punitive. I don't understand why the God in heaven or the computer algorithm chose this fortunate guest and not me. I wouldn't feel this way had the parking fee and the coffee service had been handled in a professional manner. All in all a fantastic room clean, spacious, quiet 10+. Service, 5. Management ,do better, not everyone is putting their room on an expense account. The little things make a difference, thin smiles and annoyance with guests is noticeable. Signed, a jittery, caffeinated, and possibly petty American with a high blood pressure issue. PS the shower handle is broken in 605. Thanks

Short Stay, Great Staff (50% of the time)…read more After checking in with a extremely friendly and courteous desk clerk for the first night of my stay. I arrived at my room. When first entering the room the immediate entry way felt crowded as I was met with a half kitchenette (bar fridge, microwave, coffee maker). The counter as well as the assumable electrical panel in the book that is the kitchenette are definitely dated and worse for wear. It appears to have chew marks(?) on the counter and the electrical panel(?) Bares a outdated bulky metal cabinet. On the kitchenette is also disposable cups and hidden away from the coffee maker is a couple of coffee mugs. As I turned to the bathroom to ensure it was cleaned properly I found the usual amenities (shampoo, conditioner, soap). One of the bottles had some sort of stain type goop(?) On them and the bathroom door appears to have lost a fight to a blunt object as just under the unused metal bracket is a fist shaped hole/indent. The toilet seat appears to also have chew marks on it (hopefully from a pet as opposed to a child). The shower curtain is not big enough for the shower and appears to have been cut roughly to fit onto the shower curtain rod as opposed to installed properly. The toilet in the bathroom is now considered low and NOT comfort height which is surprising as the bathroom appears to have just been redone aside from the toilet and the bathtub The bedding appears clean and inviting. The TV set for the room is perched on top of a very well worn out dresser with wear and tear marks as well as questionable choice of pulls for the drawers. This is also seen on the desk in the room as well. The TV set itself is a mediocre size for the room at 24" and is connected to the old style Coax cable so picture clarity is sub par for 2021. The dresser the TV sits on is too low to be able to enjoy comfortably in bed. The room itself was exhaustively hot when entering and the "air conditioning" unit is outdated and outputs no cold air, the bottom panel of it is hanging on by sheer will of the metal panel. The controls for the unit are easy and intuitive however useless to cool down the room. The wallpaper throughout the room is peeling at every seem (possibly due to the heat in the room). The ice machines (located on the 3rd floor and in the basement) one works (basement one) and one does not work at all. I advised one desk clerk of this and they had no feedback regarding the issue. (Maybe they were tired of hearing it was broken?) Due to covid19 and the ongoing pandemic the free buffet is not happening and they offer a "breakfast to go bag" at the front desk from 6-10am. While coming and going I noticed multiple times the front desk clerk not actually at the front desk but in the chairs in the lobby playing on their phone/handheld device. With barely acknowledged someone entering the hotel or leaving the hotel. I'll advise construction is ongoing during my stay so this review will have no bias towards construction noise during hours throughout the day or the visibility of the common areas and focuses just on my room itself and the interactions with hotel staff. All in this would be a higher scored review if not for the lack of upkeep and modernization done to the room itself.
