If you want something for your DIY at home, to replace a bulb or to get a key cut, you can't do ANY better than go to see Chris at Glendor. His is the legendary traditional hardware shop which stocks pretty much anything you want to buy - screws, nuts and bolts, locks, every kind of light bulb, pieces of wood, electrical wire, sockets and plugs, indoor and outdoor fixtures and fittings, plumbing connectors, tools, glue - the list is literally endless.
I have been going to Glendor regularly - probably once a month on average - since 1993, when I bought my house in Adel. Glendor provided everything I needed to re-wire the house. And in all that time I've sought some weird and wonderful things, like toilet seat hinges. And in all that time, I've only caught Chris out two or three (yes, really, 2 or 3) times - and even then he's offered to get me what I'm looking for in just a couple of days.
It's a great place to shop too - a traditional shop with something hanging from every surface and something new to be found round each corner. The warning on the door "Please don't walk backwards" is definitely not misplaced. And Chris knows exactly where everything is. Not only that, but he's happy to give VERY expert advice for anyone who's not quite clear what they are looking for, or how to do something in the house. Even worth going to visit if you're at a loose end - though I'd suggest you give him a quick call beforehand to check if the shop is open - even after 18 years I'm sometimes caught out by the "open and closed" schedule on the door!
And the plaudits don't stop there. The prices that Chris charges are so much lower than those charged by the big chains such as B&Q and Homebase, as to be almost unbelievable. 50% less is not unusual, and for some items it's 75% or more less. And THEN Chris gives many customers a 10% discount. Like I said, unbelievable, but true. Go and see for yourself!!!
