Just a fantastic, peaceful gathering space and I'm so glad the city had the foresight to build this park and not just add more rows of houses. I have many fond memories of moseying down here with my daughter when she was a baby through about age 4 -- perfect playground for that age. Also my buddy Scout, my dog of nine years and I have been here with wind chills of -20, and on summer days in the 100's. There are so many friendly people and we sort of band together with our pups on the coldest days. We found community here with an organic, casual dog meet up group.. I still miss it, my new neighborhood doesn't have the same energy. You'll find it packed on snow days with sledders dominating the perfect sledding hill. Those first real warm spring days give way to people playing baseball, throwing frisbees and cooking out. My only knocks are that there needs to be better crosswalks around here. Cars really fly through this area, unfortunately, and the city could take some better precautions. Additionally there's no bathroom. Funny how when I lived a five minute walk from here I didn't mind, but now when we visit and there's nowhere to go, it's definitely more noticeable. Anywho, it's a true gem for this dense neighborhood.

Now my 17 month old can go up on her own and down a little kid slide, when in the past the other playground wasn't as safe for her. It also boasts some swings a big kid slide and more. What makes this place even better is that it also has restrooms. I think they are still renovating those, but they will presumably be open soon. In addition there is a tennis court, covered picnic area, and large grassy field that would be great for playing ball. All in all this a really good park for being on the smaller side and nestled into a neighborhood setting.

That is the biggest problem with independence and Missouri in general is the amount of drug dealers here and the police in the entire state are completely worthless. High crime, a lot of drug dealers and completely worthless police.

This park has a big splash area in the summer, a playground, baseball fields, and loads of paths for walking and running. Lately, I haven't been visiting the park per se, but enjoying the new protected bike lanes along Gillham! They have a two way cycling track added in 2020 that is EXCEPTIONALLY RARE for KC. KC has, quite frankly, been way behind on bike-friendly roadways, but this is a nice step. You can safely fly through the area by bike and still feel like you're enjoying this park. Aside from the positives of this park, you're also near so many things like the Nelson, The Plaza, and loads of beautiful homes and architecture.

The park includes the following amenities (per their website): - 18 Acres - 0.80 Miles Asphalt Trail - 2 Shelters (main shelter has electricity & water) - 20 Picnic Tables - 3 Playgrounds - 2 Sand Volleyball Courts - 1 Ball Field (w/ electrical outlet for pitching machines) - ADA Accessible - 40 Parking Spaces @ Main Park - 9 Parking Spaces @ Annex Park In addition to those things, when we visited there was a fruit orchard and a community vegetable garden where they encourage you to harvest or work, if you can! They also have trash & recycling bins, as well as porta-potties (we did not see any standard restroom facilities). There are also lots of beautiful trees that provide shade, definitely worth checking out!
