After a disappointing meal nearby, we decided to do what any reasonable adults would do and attempt…read moreto save the night with ice cream. Enter Yo Mama's Ice Cream, a place we have visited before and genuinely enjoyed. My wife went with the coffee ice cream, which she said was absolutely bursting with coffee flavor. The kind of coffee flavor that makes you feel like you could start your day with it and conquer emails before 8 a.m. She paired it with cookies and cream, which unfortunately did nothing to help the situation. Instead of elevating the coffee, it dulled it, like turning down the volume on your favorite song right when the chorus hits. I went with cookies and cream mixed with rum ice cream. A combination that sounded adventurous and ended up feeling more like a shrug. Overall, this visit just was not at the level we have come to expect. The shop itself is still nice and welcoming, but the ice cream was a little loose, a little too melted, and the flavors did not have their usual punch. It felt like the ice cream equivalent of a band playing at 80 percent effort. And then there was the waffle cone. Calling it crunchy would be generous. This thing was hard as a brick. Chewing it felt like a dental challenge I did not sign up for, and I eventually had to wave the white flag and abandon the cone altogether. Not a bad stop by any means, but definitely an off night for a place that once set a higher bar for us. Will I go back? Probably. Will I make a special trip for it? Not a chance. If I am nearby and already craving ice cream, I would stop in again. If it requires going out of my way, I will keep driving and let fate, and maybe a softer waffle cone, decide next time.

Small shop feel gives a nod to the Mom and Pop businesses of the past. I would definitely pop back in for a refill when back in the area. Pun intended. :)

Jan's Homemade Candies is a chocolate shop in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL…read more My daughter's happened to see while we were walking on the other side of Ocean Drive towards Walgreens. It was located within a plain, grey plaza. Because we were on vacation on June 7, 2024, we had to pop in... oh, who am I kidding? We would have anyway. For such a small shop, they sure offer quite an assortment of chocolates. My youngest chose a starfish and a sea turtle. They were $2.50 apiece. I chose a key lime cream in milk chocolate. A Dutchie (caramel/peanuts). And a sea salt caramel in dark chocolate. They were all so smooth and decadent. Not cheap, but very much worth it. Service was a bit slow that day. After we had made our choices and I paid, the young woman working that drizzly afternoon offered a piece each on the house. Lol. That was a bit backwards if she was trying to get more sales! I tried a blueberry cream in white chocolate. Its richness and creaminess took me by surprise. I would definitely recommend it. Afterwards, I did some research on this little place. I love the story that the owners posted on the Yelp page. It's not hard to believe that they once held the title of "Best Homemade Chocolate in America!"

I love this place despite the higher than it should be pricing. But you do expect to pay a bit on…read morethe higher end for candies I wont find elsewhere as well as candy mixtures that I know they don't sell other places. The staff is over the top friendly when I am here and even like to sometimes give me their recommendations on what they like, what is new and what people actually don't really buy when they are here. I love finding new candy when I come because it's a great place to grab a couple pieces of something on the off chance my husband or I won't like it. The giant jawbreakers, the size of my hand, always get a good chuckle out of me and I always need to grab some gummy sharks because they have giant ones that are so good to nibble on over a little bit of time. Prices for the grab and fill bag candy are by weight and everything else on the walls or pre-boxed are priced out already. The place is always great, super clean and I love the way it has that candy store smell to it that makes me buy something every time that I am here!

I know kids grab into candies with bare hands but when parents watch it and don't say anything…read more.. thats just bad parenting. We went in It Sugar store today and little boy about 2 years old was walking around the candy jars, grabbing with his hands candies and putting in mouth. His mom was watching him and said nothing. After she noticed I saw her boys actions, she went to tell her kid something and then left again. The boy continued eating candies. Some candies fell on the floor, he picked them up and put them back into candy jar! Then he got the candy scooper, started digging for candies and putting in the mouth candy scooper! His mom again said nothing. So I went to talk to the cashier but she didn't seem much bothered. She just asked which candy jar he put the candies from floor in, I showed her and she removed it (I'm guessing put it back after I left). I told her this kid keeps doing it and parents don't care, and the kid touched almost all containers. She didn't seem to bother. So yes, probably not the place to buy candies for your loved ones, unless you are okay with risking them getting sick. Shame on these parents who don't watch their kids, but also shame on store employees who could care more!
